Cadet's Pay

The pay for a Cadet was set at 1/2 the pay of a Second Lieutenent with less than two years of service.  When we entered the Academy as New Cadets the rate for a 2LT was set at $222.30.  It had been at that level since the pay schedule posted in May 1952.  Shortly after graduation (1 September 1965) a new pay schedule was published and 2LTs got their first pay raise is 13 years -- a wooping $72.30 per month (a 32.5% pay increase).  This was the largest single pay increase (percentage wise) in the post-war era.  The next highest was in 1971 with a 17.8% increase ($80.10).  The annual average increase in pay for a 2LT from 1970 to 2010 was 5.2%.  The two accompanying charts show the actual pay increases over time and the percent increase with each new published pay scale.
