Update 23 August 2014

Bob Doughty has finished editing Chapters 1 and 2 and incorporated most, but not all, of your suggestions for the first two chapters. He remains open to any suggestions you may have for these two chapters, but hopes you will limit yourself to correcting the most egregious errors. Bob continues to welcome your comments, whatever they may be, on chapters three through six. These chapters are available in both Microsoft Word format and Adobe Acrobat PDF format.

Update 16 August 2014

Bob Doughty has completed the remaining chapters of our class history. They are posted below in two versions; Microsoft Word format and Adobe Acrobat PDF format. The Word version has "Track Changes" enabled. If you use that version Word will automatically indicate the changes you have made making it easy for Bob to identify your suggested changes to the document. Please forward you comments, suggestions and changes to Bob at USMA1965@Yahoo.com as soon as possible. His target for publishing the final version is our 50th Reunion is May 2015. The new chapters are as follows:

Here is Bob's message to the class.

Some time ago I sent you my drafts of the first two chapters in my history of our class: The USMA Years and The VN Years. I appreciate your reading those first two chapters and your sending me comments and suggestions.

I have finished my draft of the next four chapters and am making them available for your review and comment. These four chapters are entitled: The Post-Vietnam Years, The Civilian Years, Hail Alma Mater Dear, and Conclusion. As with the first two chapters, I have tried to use personal stories and experiences to tell the broader story of our Class.

Please review the chapters and send me any comments or suggestions you may have. I ask that you pay particular attention to names and let me know if I have identified anyone incorrectly. Now is the time to let me know if I have failed to meet your expectations.

Since I have almost finished the project, it will be difficult for me to incorporate new material in any of the chapters, but I am willing to consider any information you send me. There still is time for me to correct any errors or significant omissions you may identify.

I realize the chapters are long, but I am reluctant to shorten them considerably. If you have any suggestions for shortening the chapters or reorganizing them, please send them to me. I don’t promise to adopt your suggestions, but I do promise to consider them seriously.

I look forward to hearing from you. My e-mail address is: USMA1965@Yahoo.com.

Strength and Drive,
Bob Doughty

Original Posting

The current official Class of 1965 history was last updated in January 2003.  It was a continuation of the original history of the Class of Strength and Drive.  Bob Doughty has been working very hard to write a comprehensive class history in time for our 50th reunion.  To date Bob has completed two chapters and presents them to the class with the following instructions.

I have finished my first draft of the chapters on our USMA years and on the VN years.  Note that I have tried to use personal stories and experiences to tell the broader story of our Class.  Please review the chapters and send me any comments or suggestions you may have.  I ask that you pay particular attention to names and let me know if I have identified anyone incorrectly.  Now is the time to let me know if you feel I have failed to meet your expectations.

Please disregard the endnotes.  I include them on the drafts only to permit me to locate the source of information.   I will delete most of them for the final draft.

I am still working on chapters that I have tentatively entitled "The Post-VN Years," "The Civilian Years," "Hail Alma Mater Dear," and "Conclusion."   It will be difficult for me to incorporate new material in the first two chapters, but I am still seeking information for the last chapters.  Please send me information about yourself if you have not yet done so.  Or, if you wish to elaborate on what you already have sent, please do so.

I look forward to hearing from you.  My e-mail address is:   USMA1965@Yahoo.com.

Strength and Drive,
Bob Doughty

Please set aside some time to review both chapters and provide Bob your comments at USMA1965@Yahoo.com. and VN years.
