West Point Parents Club of AlaskaWP Crest

Prospective Cadets

The West Point Parent Net provides a listserv for students and their families who are interested in attending the United States Military Academy. Any student or parent may join the prospective net listserv and begin receiving information about the process of receiving an appointment to the academy as well as the entire admission process.

In Alaska we are privileged to have very approachable Senators and Representative. They are all very interested in helping young Alaskans gain admission to any of the service academies and have staff dedicated to helping families through the part of the process that requires their help.

The parent club is also able to answer any questions you may have about preparing for the Academy as well as the process of gaining an appointment. Each of us currently has a son at the Academy and we would be glad to assist you. Feel free to email us and we will get back with you.

Information is also available on the Academy web site and they will respond to emails directed to them for information as well. The Academy web site contains information on how to contact your state representatives as well as each step in the process so that you will know what to expect.

Please remember that all deadlines are firm and must be met. This is true for both the state representatives and the Academy. Congressman Don Young has a deadline of December 15th. Senators Murkowski and Begich have established December 1 as their deadline for when all nomination packets must be received.

Start the process early and keep track of when the due dates will occur. Also keep copies of everything you mail in to folks. If something is lost or damaged you will have a much easier time of replacing it with a copy than having to generate it again.

Familiarize yourself with the links on this web site. Much of what you will need to know or may have questions about is located here. It literally will take you through everything you need to know from applying to graduating.

The "Meet a Cadet from your Hometown" web page will show you where some of the cadets from Alaska live and give you an email address so that you may reach them to answer any questions you have about the Academy.

If you would like more information about Alaskan cadets visit the Cadets of West Point, the West Point Cadets, and The Cadets of West Point. I know all of thes page names sound similar but all have different information aboaut cadets and are a very interesting way to check out the Alaskans at the Academy.

The USMA Prep School web site has a lot of useful information. The Prep School is a great one year program and potential candidates who are chosen for this program find that the year at the Prep School is an excellent year of additional preparation for the Academy.
