Harold Gene Marsh was born in Flippen, Arkansas, on 11 June 1927 and was appointed to West Point on a Senatorial appointment from Senator James W. Fulbright.
His West Point classmates recall: "For a congenial easygoing fellow, Gene rates as tops in our books. Not so easygoing was Gene on the cinder paths though, as he ran winter and spring track all four years. Gene's social calendar had place for but one fair lass, a native New Yorker. For the future, this speed merchant can see nothing but the speed of the Air Force."
During his cadet days, Gene was on the Cross-Country and Track teams all four years and earned Minor `A's in the former and Major `A’s' in the later. He was Captain of the X-country team during his first class year. He was also a member of the Skeet Club during his yearling year, and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.
Upon graduation he and Trudy, his OAO during his four years at USMA, were married in the West Point Catholic Chapel.
Gene and Trudy had three sons: Thom, Michael and Patrick.
Gene went into the Air Force.
After flying training, he reported to the first of a number of assignments - all involved in early Air Force Guided Missiles.
Gene resigned his USAF Captain's commission in 1957.
In civilian life, Gene established three successful computer software companies and is now retired after having twice attempted retirement.
Unfortunately, in 2005, Trudy developed Lung Cancer and after a short illness passed away. She is interned at the USMA Cemetery
In 2000 Gene married Miss Janice Green of Oklahoma City. They now reside in Massachusetts.
