Counselors and educators are very important people in
the process of assisting students planning for higher education and
providing an important link between students and colleges. The United
States Military Academy would like to help you assist students in making
them aware of the quality educational program West Point has to offer
and to solicit your help in identifying candidates for admission.
Identified below are programs in which West Point
representatives can become involved with counselors in helping students
choose the college that best fits their needs and aspirations.
Military Academy Liaison Officers (MALOs)
The southeast Texas area has Military Academy Liaison Officers (called MALOs)
living throughout the area that work directly for the Admissions Office at West
Point. Area MALOs, consist of army reserve officers, parents of cadets and
alumni who have received special admissions training at West Point and act as
local Admissions Office representatives. MALOs have up to date knowledge of West
Point’s admissions criteria and procedures as well as access to the applications
of area students who have applied for admission. MALOs are specifically assigned
to area school and are available for attendance at college nights/fairs,
meetings with counselors (both at schools and during sponsored
breakfast/luncheon programs), appearing at awards assemblies to present
appointments to students entering West Point, and to act as a liaison to schools
in identifying interested and qualified students for both admission and the
academic workshop for juniors. The listing in the school assignment section of
this site identifies the MALO that is assigned to your school. If you have
students that want to know ore about West Point or know of promising candidates
please feel free to contact your assigned MALO.
Cadet High School Visits
West Point has a Cadet Public Relations Council that supports cadet visits to
hometowns including visits to high schools that the cadet attended. There are
three visit periods throughout the year beginning with Thanksgiving (the Monday
and Tuesday before Thanksgiving), Spring Break (it varies but usually the second
and third weeks in March), and Graduation (the last week in May). These visits
are normally arranged by area MALOs and can include admissions presentations by
cadets to counselors and students. MALOs would be glad to work with schools to
arrange visits.
