In the November 1998 Club Newsletter, Vice President Paulette Valentine wrote: "A Final Salute to Jamie - Recently, members of the Gulf Coast WPPC were saddened to learn of the untimely death of Firstie Cadet Benjamin R. (Jamie) Morris at the Academy on November 6, 1998. The son of Co-Presidents Ben and Nancy Morris, Jamie was a popular participant at many Club functions. As he met and encouraged new cadets entering the West Point, Jamie demonstrated leadership, honor, and humility, earning him both the admiration and respect of his fellow cadets. His quick wit and ever present smile were a positive influence on his classmates and friends. On behalf of the West Point Parents Club, we offer our solace and support to Ben, Nancy, and their son, Cadet Aaron Morris, Jamie's fiancée Tesha Farris. We will remember Jamie as a leader among leaders. His example will help us carry out our role in ensuring the growth and well-being of our West Point sons and daughters. We will miss you Jamie!"
Also in the same newsletter, the Morris Family wrote a personal note: "We would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this most difficult time. We cannot adequately express the wonderful treatment and support that we have received, starting with a small local law firm that flew us on their private jet to West Point the night of Jamie's death, to the support from the Academy and the West Point Community, and finally from the Parents Club, our church and our friends. Your love and your prayers are what has gotten us through these dark days. God bless you all! Ben, Nancy, and Aaron Morris and Tesha Farris."
