How To Retrieve Listserv information List servers were in existence before the Web and were a principal means of communicating among various groups by using email. Commands are sent to the Listserver by Email. Messages are simple, merely include the command in the message. The subject line of your message means nothing to Majordomo, so it can be blank, but it is a good idea to put something in it to help you remember what you asked for. More info can be found at www.west-point.org/Info/listserv_guide.html. Commands are sent to the listserv address majordomo@west-point.org. To get started merely include "help" (without the quotes) in a message. In this case, one get a return indicating that the address for initial help is listhelp@west-point.org. When one sends the message to the server, it will return an initial help message like The message then lists the commands and gives examples. One of the commands is "index <listname> to get a list of files available, so if one sends (note the address majordomo@west-point.org ) a message comes back with list of files available like the following (the message is longer than is shown in the picture): One uses the "get" command to retrieve the files. So if one wanted to get all the messages sent to the server in December 1998 one would send the command get usma1959 usma1959.9812 to request the file.
