Matt's Ace Log

My Aces

YYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

I hit my first ace on the 1st of May 2000 on hole #8 at Bluemont Park in Arlington Virginia! This was my first time playing the course but my third round of the day. Bluemont Park now holds a special place in my grippy plastic heart. I ran my 169 gram Tee Bird down the right curving fairway. It flattened out to hit the 6' right hand gap between the trees guarding the basket then heeled back to hit center chain. I had just joined Rick, a Bluemont Park regular, at the eighth tee. He gave me a big high ten while I yelled at the top of my lungs. The pin and tee placement that day made it 222 feet.

Ace number 2 came on the fourth of April 2001 on hole #2A of my Huntsville backyard course. You may think this doesn't count since I had no witness and it wasn't on a public course, but I had a total of 18 holes, all different with 4 baskets to shoot at and it felt like an ace to me. The one I hit measures 260 feet. I still haven't figured out how the shot got past the big cedar guarding the basket. The disc was my favorite driver, a 168 gram CE Valkyrie. The picture shows the hole and the approximate flight of the disc. I was thinking that it was going to go past the basket and hoping for it to get some tree so I would have a putt. Instead it smacked the basket dead center.

Ace number 3 was all luck. On July 5th 2001 I threw a Valk on a high hyzer route hoping it would knife through most of the branches on this huge locust tree and land near the basket. Somehow it missed everything and glanced off the trunk of the tree directly into the basket. No, I didn't call "Bank" but it still counts. This is the #12 hole on the Firefly Disc Golf Course here on Ft. Leavenworth. It runs about 240' downhill. The disc payed the price for this ace. It now has a small hole completely through the fly plate from a thorn on the locust tree.
