Great job WP-ORG.....

This survey was a great idea and can be a terrific tool if used in a timely manner. Please continue to pursue this technology. The just in time pop-up windows are a terrific idea, and could have been used even more extensively. Keep up the good work.

No information regarding current military status for 90reservists was offered?; ; No interests in funding to AAA vs AOG?; Improve the web – go electronic all the way.

I am extremely pleased to see that the AOG has embraced technology by developing commo lines over the internet and by email.

Question #4's columns are askance on my IE4.0 browsers.

Interesting and informative

This is a good way to do a survey. Next time, how about taking a survey that asks about how USMA uses the money given to it by the Army. I'm specifically looking at money spent on Corps Squad athletics versus money spent on academics.

Its just OK.

Questions 16 and 19 are the type that are aimed at motherhood. For or against? I understand the problems faced by anyone developing a survey such as this. Better luck next time.

Register of Graduates is not up to date with Class members who have left the service. Can you add email addresses in Register of Graduates.; ;

Excellent way to accomplish a survey.

Two ideas to consider - ; 1) Your required use of a LEFT-SIDE mouse button, especially in response field #4, as your instructions discuss, is not applicable to Macintosh users. I technically and literally could not respond in field #4. I'm responding on a PowerBook (Mac notebook), and we have one button. In the future, you may need to re-look how you handle the keystroke or mouse button assigned to a given response for both WINTEL and Mac platforms. Still a *few* of us Mac owners out here (gentle nudge).; ; 2) Any chance of adding SCROLL BARS on these feedback windows ? When (and I wrote a few lengthy replies in which I had to do this) I want to go back and review the entire length of my feedback

comments in a given field, I have to play for several minutes to read the text...as my computer moves the text too fast up and down., a scroll bar on the side would allow me to pace the scrolling text better. This is a VERY MINOR issue BTW...just throwing it in to help you perfect the consummate feedback mechanism; I must say it's tough to find time to sit down and write a letter saying all I've said before...BUT much easier to stop a few minutes and do it via email. CONGRATS on this innovative move forward.

When trying to go to/from the services section, the instructions would not work on a Mac.

This is a good initiative

Excellent survey layout. Do it again.

How about asking where someone lives so the results of the responses from an entire state could be provided to each Society, that they might learn more about the grads they serve?

Great idea! I like the survey and having a chance to give feedback.

Good survey

This survey was easy to fill out. I would not have done it if it had come in the mail. DO MORE AOG STUFF LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good survey...encourage more use if Internet!

Re: Survey. - Good idea. Good luck!

Question #4 letters from part did not work right on my computer some blocks to check were missing.

The format was messed up on the question about which sections of the Assembly I read.

Good start----

Excellent opportunity. I would not have written as much in a letter, or said as much on the phone. Others may disagree, but this medium lends itself to gathering information ... thanks.

Nice touch guys! I've been dealing with the AOG now since 1992 and have appreciated the growth of the scope of the organization. Keep it up, keep stretching..

This is an excellent survey instrument, using the latest technology to accomplish its task. I hope you have an overwhelming response rate. Good job!

I appreciate the chance to say something to the AOG. I live on the west coast and have limited contact with the AOG and West Point. I would like to stay in better contact.

Hopefully, this survey will reveal graduate's concerns for our alma mater and our Association and will lead to follow-up surveys to pursue these.

Professional football and a two year commitment is a real dilemma for the academy. I am torn as are most graduates who want quality athletic teams but believe that everyone should receive the same experience and fulfill their commitment

Commendable.

I seldom fill out surveys, but found it seemingly less time consuming to quickly fill this one out via internet

Too much at once. Can't thoughtfully provide input on so many areas in one sitting.; Too much overlap in questions; ÿ

I am serious about definitions mentioned above, particularly since I am attempting to get answers for your Objectives by your deadline.

I think that this survey is an excellent idea and should be done at least annually. I will reserve final judgement until I see what others say, and what AOG does with it. Thank you for the opportunity to participate.

Question 11 seemed entirely biased toward electronic means of communication. My most important link with West Point remains paper: Assembly and the Register.

Time and resources permitting, the AOG should keep track of the current occupations of retirees and other graduates not on active duty. A question to that effect could be included on future surveys.

I couldn't figure out how to answer question 4.

Survey question number 4 is broken. Does not allow all options to be selected.

Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this survey.

Survey is a great idea..

I think this survey was a great idea. Thanks for trying to reach out.; ; Please let me know how I can be of service in any capacity.

This isn't a bad way to get the word out. Good effort. BEAT NAVY!

Question #5 did not allow the answer of always reading the various items listed. My answers would have been always to all the letters.

The questions should have been in larger type. They were difficult to read.

Good survey. Thanks for the notification

This is a good first step. I hope it will be continued. This is the first time that I can remember that the AOG is undertaking to find out what the average graduate is thinking. We need more of this.

Great idea! Does this survey replace the class poll that Jack Hammond asked Presidents to complete by 2 Feb? This seems to be a very effective way to get feedback.

Like I said, I am glad to see the survey. I am always available by email to discuss any issues. I spend most of my time on line.

It was a very good survey. Thanks for asking for my input.

Survey seems quick and painless and thus should be a useful feedback tool. There are still lots of people not on the net but that will decrease over time.

Good idea for a survey--excellent approach via e-mail. I wonder how many of us older types use e-mail? Is the survey available in other forms, to those not on e-mail? Hope so'

Concerning question #5, what about grads who are in the Reserves and National Guard? I'm sure that this omission was just an oversight.

Couldn't activate the first couple columns in the Assembly question.

have an uncomfortable feeling that the AOG really believes that we grads exist to support them and not vice versa. Therefore, efforts at reversing this perception are essential.

GOOD SHOW. ONE CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH INFORMATION.

This is a good idea. I have not searched the list of questions deeply, feeling it is at least a start. You are here with it at just the time that a little flame seems to be accompanying the smoke of discontent. I hope it leads us somewhere good.

OUTSTANDING! I am glad AOG did this, and would be willing to help out with future surveys.

seems like a great way to elicit feedback. It is much easier to respond to this than to mail, or more fun! I would prefer this over mailings, and it is certainly much easier to do data entry for later analysis. Keep up the good work!

This survey is an excellent idea. Hopefully it will quell some of the dissatisfaction which is expressed from time to time in WP-org postings. In that vein, it would be productive if AOG invited those who complain the most on WP-org about the way AOG is run and how it elects trustees, to attend (at their own expense, of course) the next Alumni Support or West Point Fund Committee meeting and Trustee meeting during Graduation Week '98. A lot of the complaining is the result of ignorance, and such visits would do a lot to educate the ignorant.

This came as a surprise and I want to get an answer back ASAP rather than cogitate and delay my current thoughts. I have heard complaints from other graduates about AOG fund raising correspondence and that AOG seems to be getting more and more like various other charity, medical, and political fund raising organizations.

I appreciate this survey. Thank you.

Thanks for the opportunity to provide input. Feel free to contact me anytime. Happy Holidays !

Thanks for the great work in bringing the corps closer together!

This survey is a really GREAT initiative!

This was a great idea and I appreciate the opportunity to voice an opinion.

Good idea. I am always somewhat reluctant to take strong positions as I have here, although strongly held, when I fail personally to be as active as a participant than are some more outspoken classmates and class leaders. This provides a good forum, which you can take with a grain of salt, or consider as you feel appropriate. I do not doubt the AOG's motives or intent to serve the Academy and its members, past and present.

You should define constructive. Some folks might want to make comments which to you are not constructive.

Thanks for the opportunity to review the direction and progress of AOG. This is a good service worth repeating regularly

Good Survey, I am curious about the results

This may be a good idea, but be careful. This is NOT a random survey; you are getting responses from folks who are already anxious to help West Point. We need to expand this circle of supporters; I'm not sure our responses will help do that. Obviously, what we've been doing has not turned them on.

Great idea. Easy to understand and less time consuming than traditional survey methods. As with all surveys please make sure that the results and any relevant analysis is forwarded to those that participated in the survey.

Those who put this survey together are to be commended.

This should be a recurring event. I am sure I will think of other items that did not come to mind now that I may want included later.

Well done.

Don't try to force an answer. See 18.; Thanks.

Survey is a good idea.

I could not answer question #4 completely. The program would not let me mark YES to all of the questions.

future surveys should be more focused and not as general.

Surveys and other communications using the internet will graduate participation and help us feel that we are part of the process. The operations of the AOG have been a mystery outside of those at the Academy and the trustees.

I certainly feel AOG is ahead of the wave with its initiatives on the Web. I was talking to some Naval Academy grads and they were envious of the dialogue alumni can carry on with classmates and AOG. Perhaps they have a similar system, but they are unaware of it if it does exist. Good job. I'll monitor future developments and participate with interest. Good job. Fall out and take big bites.

I would like to see more emphasis put on this medium in AOG's communication with its members.

I think the internet survey is a good idea.; ; I can't recall if you indicated the length of the survey - If not, add that info in the future. It's good to know what you are getting into.

Question number 4 choices (the circles) did not appear correctly, despite changing fonts, etc., so my answers there may not be correct.

Time out! Surveys are useful but this one is two long for my tired fingers.; A good beginning for better communications between AOG and its members. Can you include a spell checker; ;Just kidding or am I???

I believe that this is an excellent method to survey the feeling of the graduates. You should gain a real insight into our thoughts about the future of USMA. It would be interesting to see the difference in viewpoints between earlier classes and present classes. Thanks for asking.

The section about what sections of the ASSEMBLY that I read did not appear correctly on my browser (some categories did not have selections beneath them and there were two extra columns of buttons without headers)

Don't stop here. Keep the surveys coming. There are a lot of questions to be posed and answered.

Great survey. I really appreciate all the work that you do, and the progress that you've made.

See above.

Well laid out. Open and interactive enough for those who are concerned to air their views, yet simple enough for those of us who are pressed for time to get through quickly.; ; Well done!

This is a good survey, and I sincerely hope I ; provided you with valuable answers. If you have; any questions, please contact me. I would be happy to fill out any future surveys as well.

Quest 4 - did not have an option of selecting yes; ; Quest 17 - needed a no opinion option

Survey is a little too long and does not give enough information to make all comments needed.

I think this is a great idea. I have had these concerns for a number of years now, and this is a way to voice them with some idea that I will get a response.

A major shaking should be coming soon, I believe. Get ready!

It is an honest survey which gives everyone an opportunity to express themselves. But practice makes perfect.

Wonderful Idea. I think this survey should be an annual event.

Appreciate the attempt, hope you get some worthwhile feedback.

This is an important step forward, that is, if it is to be used to really affect some of the action.

This was a good idea. I hope you continue to seek feedback this way. Thanks!

hopefully someone is at the end of this line

Always end communication with, BEAT NAVY!

I appreciate the AOG asking for my feedback. I am quite interested on hearing more from the AOG related to progress with its goals and development of additional services. Please add me to the distribution list for this type information.

I am sure you will always get some great ideas from this survey, and recommend that you do it annually.

Nice and quick - good job.

I like this. More electronic the better for me.

Question 4 not presented well.

Areas of support to active duty members and increasing participation of younger graduates not explicitly addressed (few will raise these issues, but could provide valuable opinions if asked)

Some terms should be defined. For instance, civil status.; The question about the frequency I read various articles in the Assembly didn't line up properly on my computer, so I'm not sure my votes were accurately reflected. I took the first box to be frequently, and went from there.;

A very commendable start which must be pursued and expanded to insure that non-Email graduates have an opportunity to provide input.

I wish to acknowledge a member of your staff. His name is Dusty Saunders. Dusty has helped me with numerous AOG activities. He should be commended for his professional work. He truly symbolizes the AOG, and USMA graduates.

I am interested in the results of the survey. Please post them on the net.; ; Keep up the good work. I will offer support when I am in a position to do so.

Great Idea, I think the web is really going to tie us back together.; ; I think the AOG should arrange some kind of feedback box for the Supe. I bet his queue would be quite full.

Worked very well for me--easy to respond, short, sweat, etc.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Good survey construction - easiest to use that I've seen to date!

Don't donate to AOG but do contribute to 69 class fund.

Great way to communicate and solicit feedback!!

Yes / No answer options are often inadequate when the respondent is not knowledgeable with respect to the subject queried. . . I do not wish to convey a lack of interest or, conversely, agreement with a topic by simply responding Yes or No

I appreciate the opportunity to provide my opinion. I also commend the recent improvements in the AOG web page, the grad email service (forwarding), and the apparent attempt to involve grads more often, though in my opinion, it is not enough yet.

I would like to see the results of the survey sent to all those who answered it.

This survey should have told us its objective and provided an estimated time for completion. If it is possible to partially answer and return to the survey at another time, that should have been provided.

It was a good idea, hope you get good participation and some worthwhile comments.

This is a great way of communicating. Will we see the results of this survey?

Great survey! Keep asking. Beat Navy!

Survey format was very good. Internet distribution was an excellent idea!

Thanks. I feel better.

Good survey - could be a good way to cut costs by not mailing to those who use the Internet

I would add Active Reserves/National Guard (drilling Reservist) as a response to civil/military status.

You should have someone look at the question I highlighted, as well as the questions that follow. You open a lot of issues, some aided, others not, and I don't believe you will get an accurate data point of information. Don't pin all your future actions on this survey. Some of your results are going to be misleading.

good survey

I think use of email & web site is the way to go

Just as a side note, I have tried with little success to use the AOG e-mail find. Why don't you ask individuals who have submitted e-mail addresses if they would not mind having them posted and then post them in the same or similar manner as the class of 1988 has done. This is very user friendly and to the best of my knowledge does not infringe upon anyone's privacy.

This is a good effort to get feedback. I favor the association with west-point.org -- it is good to know that the AOG is listening to the more outspoken graduate voices. Regrettably, it was west-point.org that crystallized for me the degree to which the AOG (and many graduates, for that matter) view graduates who serve less than 20 years as second tier graduates. From a pure financial perspective, that makes little sense to me.

This was a good survey.

Thanks

Excellent survey, easy to use, well constructed.

Thanks for the opportunity to review the AOG. I really have appreciated the periodic e-mail updates.

Thanks for the chance to sound off!

Thank-you for taking the time and initiative to evaluate the AOG.

Good survey -- thanks for the opportunity!

You ought to ask graduates what USMA courses were most useful or not used at all and give those results to the Dean for future curriculum development and revision. I think that this is an outstanding way to reach our graduates. Unlike other colleges that I have seen in the civilian world, USMA hasn't gotten the fund-raising spirit instilled in its graduates, especially since we haven't needed it until recently.; From what I have seen in Texas, Texas A&M seems to do the best job of getting money donated from its graduates. We might want to look at their operation and cadet borrow some of their techniques.

Survey is a great idea, but let's be sure to capture the comments of those not on the internet.

Does Question #5 saying Active include Army Reserve? I have always associated Active with the Active army (full-time). Therefore, I chose Civil.

Worthwhile effort on the AOG's part. I would like to see the results and the action plan to address issues as a result of the survey.

This survey is a very good idea. Other WP orgs should follow your lead.

Good survey. I liked the links (Goals, services)Good design.

Very well done. I like the format. Especially the explanations to the potentially non-computer person out there. Good job.

email (and the WWW) are very effective means for communicating with all the classes of USMA. many people do not take the time to respond to questionnaires that are mailed but will spend the 5 minutes it takes to reply to an email inquiry. use of this medium should continue to be expanded.

Great survey! I lost it in question 19 services page and had to redo it, even though I did everything right.

Thanks for the survey.

Good idea. Keep it up.

Thanks for asking.

Ask hard questions to get answers from experienced soldiers which can be used to hold the line - at least by Graduates who care.

Thanks for polling the AOG membership. It should be a source of great wisdom and concern to you.

Too long!

Keep me on the list.

The class mailing lists for USMA'69 is a neat operation!

Liked this survey. STOP using snailmail and wasting funds. Use the internet!!!!

A useful first step. If you are to represent the Graduates, and provide services for them or in their name, it is important to seek their views. I have not been at all active in the AOG because I never considered it relevant.

See my comment under question #29.

An online form for updating the ROG with current information.

Survey was well-done!; Success will be determined on how effectively the results are utilized.;

Automation and Internet is Good! Keep it up!!!

Thank you for taking the time to gather our inputs.

Happy to participate! Will add anything that comes to mind later as am rather pressed at this time

Why is this web site titled defiant? This makes it appear that the site is an alternate site not supported by AOG.

Good Survey!!! Hope I've contributed somewhat.

None.

I like the format, but just don't have the time to devote to it right now.

Well done. I applaud the efforts to stay on top of technology. I mean, I actually got an e-mail message from some guy from the Class of 49?!!! That's forward thinking!

Good survey!

online is cool - fast, easy, cheap

I am not sure that surveys of this type do the job---especially the initial questions that seem to have more to do the feathering of nests than they do with what should be the primary concerns of the AOG--helping the Corps.

Please email or notify me further in advance of this. I have found that with more time to consider the questions sometimes more meaningful; answers and suggestions are arrived at.; Many thanks for the opportunity to comment and; keep up the good work. Some of the multiple-choice answers were not inclusive of all possible answers. For example, for question #23, my answer is no. However, no was not an option, so I left it blank. Overall, though I'm impressed with the questionnaire and your efforts!

Several of the yes/no choices have riders such as I am happy with the direction that West Point is heading, or as I support what the AOG is currently doing. These are inappropriate because the statement may not reflect how the respondent feels about the selection which he/she has made.

nicely done

It is pretty good for a first survey....What are you being defensive for? i.e. constructive

Survey is a great idea. Technically, very well done also. (I didn’t have much to say but appreciated being asked.) Great Idea. Well constructed survey, user friendly. BIG BITES!!!

I think the e-mail was a good tool to use for this survey.

Excellent questions--keep badgering us out here for more support.

I suggest that this survey be offered every 6 months with changes determined by the prior survey.

N/A;

This survey is a great step forward and should be done periodically in the future

Good start on getting this going.

I would like to see what measures we are taking to obtain the necessary funds from the Congress for O&MA projects. Concern for the survivors of

the deceased graduates should be given some special attention. What are the plans?

this questionnaire is an excellent idea - I would like to see final results...

yes on future surveys

The survey is a good idea.

Answers are too absolute. Most of the answers are either yes or no. Need to add less restrictive answers with the opportunity to expound.

I suspect the survey lends itself to those with single-subject agendas. To have knowledge and to comment on the overall picture requires more time and effort than is available from most grads. But the survey offers an outlet for those with gripes. Perhaps you will learn something.

Question 3: I am the DC area class representative for 1979.; ; Questions 7 & 8: I'm pretty well extended for time currently. So, I answered no. At the same time, if certain things absolutely need supported through more time, then you step up and try to rearrange things as best can be done. Question 7 really isn't a black or white question.

The survey was well constructed. Very well constructed. I trust you'll have the guts to report widely the results, regardless of how politically

incorrect they may be.

Thanks for asking!

The short list of the AOG mission, etc, did NOT require opening a new viewing window. Recommend the list is included as text in the survey.

This survey is well-done and attractive. As a software professional involved in internet applications, that is a well-considered opinion. You folks appear to be pretty STRAC <g>

Good idea - continue to do this annually.

Great idea!; Do this more frequently, whenever a major public policy issue is pending which would affect USMA, the US Army, or the national defense.; PUBLISH THE RESULTS TO MEMBERS!; WRITE A POSITION PAPER!; ISSUE A PRESS RELEASE!

I would like to see the results of this survey.

Good idea. I think that if you shorten this survey so it only takes about 5 minutes you will have better response rates.

I'm pleased to see the use of a powerful new medium to strengthen communication. The AOG could be a stronger voice for West Point with more participation of its members.

NICE TO HAVE A SURVEY. AT LEAST YOU WILL KNOW THAT WE HAVE NOT BEEN KEPT INFORMED OF IMPORTANT MATTERS AFFECTING THE CORPS.

Glad you took the time to ask!

This is an excellent beginning to get all grads involved in the process. I am sure that as we all become more familiar with the workings of the AOG, many constructive ideas and suggestions will improve the organization.

none

I like the forum...I'll be happy to participate whenever necessary

The survey is a great idea!

Thank you for the opportunity of the survey. I hope my comments are construed as constructive because I meant them to be. I will have to do a better job personally of remaining in contact with the AOG. Thanks to everyone who gave of their time to support this effort, and thanks to my class e-mail moderator, Hugh Donohue, without whose help I would not have

even known about this survey.

I think that this survey is a great idea and it should be done periodically.

I think this is a good idea, but as you probably already know relying on answers from a single source like this is likely to result in selection bias. You might want to follow up with a mail survey (particularly for the more senior class members who are less likely to be on the web).

Kudo's on doing this survey.

Thanks for giving me a forum for unloading.

Much too easy to click the no answers instead of taking the time to respond to a lot of the questions

Good Job! Bob, Tom, AOG Staff and Advisors

Not a bad way to send out a survey. HOWEVER, I had a tough time finding you and making contact. Also some non-e-mail guys have some decent thoughts

I am very pleased with the leadership provided by graduates. More importantly, I applaud those that find time in their busy schedule to influence decisions within the school.

Thanks for allowing me to respond. I look forward to the results. We can work from there.

An excellent idea. We should encourage and facilitate all members to get on line and use this means of communication.

It's a little long and results will be biased based on the internet/e-mail literacy of the respondents

This is a great mechanism to solicit feedback. Thanks for the opportunity.

I just think this survey is a good idea and would like to know what the results are. I would especially like to know of any interesting developments or changes that come about as a result of this survey.

no

GREAT idea- I guess I need to get more involved- it's just too easy to sink your time and effort into the job and family sometimes forgetting your PROFESSIONAL roots

I think employing the internet is fantastic...I am more apt to read information and participate in surveys.

Good survey and thanks for reminding me of my duty to support the AOG!

Good format.

I am interested in the outcome of this survey. What do you plan to do with the results? I am really concerned about the AOG's image. I hope that this survey can be a part of the solution to this problem.

Nice survey. Thanks for asking my opinion.

Good survey.

Thanks for the opportunity to participate. The West Point I love and respect is the one I remember (accurate or not). I am increasingly concerned that the one I see and hear about now, is radically different. This is not the Corps has... The cadets are the same, I think we are the ones who may have lost our way.

GOOD IDEA; WELL PRESENTED

Thank you for using the electronic media. Please continue to do so. Thank you.

Electronic survey is great- makes it easy to do.

Great idea to do this on e-mail

This was a well designed, user friendly survey. The authors should be commended.

You should know that I reflect the views of my contemporaries. Maybe it's a good thing we won't be around much longer.

What is the interface between AUSA and the AOG? AUSA is a voice for us in Congress. West Point will be impacted in the near future just like the rest of the Army. Is there a link between the AOG and the AUSA board in Washington?

Like the email survey. The more that AOG can do via computer the better. West Point Grads and associates are high tech...we need to exploit that technological advantage to the maximum.

I'll have to think about it.

Putting this survey on the internet made it easier for me to respond in a timely manner. If I received this survey in the mail I would have probably put it aside for now and maybe even forgot about it.

Hmmm. Lots of questions for the first one out.; Very nicely put together, though. :-)

Let's keep these surveys to a minimum. This survey took quite a bit of time. I didn't answer question #5 re-- military status since it did not include mine:; ; civil life -- active reserves; ; I think that you may find that the categories you have traditionally used do not fit today's total force concept. I believe that many graduates continue their military careers via the reserves / national guard of various services after initial separation from active duty. Many of them ultimately serve on not only annual drills and annual active duty, but also via numerous recalls to active duty, some over extended periods for both peacetime and contingency purposes. In an era when active reservists may achieve green id card status and must balance two careers simultaneously...

I'm glad to see the AOG in cyberspace! Congrats - this is the only way to effectively communicate. I don't have the time or interest to read a lot of regular mail or magazines.

This worked smoothly and easily. Good work.

Good idea to have this survey via this format.

Survey very well done. Suggest next survey not be done for about a year to allow AOG to ponder results of this survey and other on-going activities, and to make appropriate changes in purpose, organization, etc.

Thanks for the chance!

Good luck

Excellent idea to survey grads for opinions. Being a recent grad, I was not fully aware of the services and information available to me.

Raise the dues. Actively expend your efforts assaulting the media and Congress. Join forces with the other Service institutions to accomplish the mission. Or lobby to close the doors in the interests of better domestic services and world peace [Ha! Ha! ....Ha!].

Thank you for asking :-)

This was a good idea on how to collect input!; ; Keep up the good work!

Great idea for getting information on what we AOG should focus on and the interests of people concerned.

Good survey. Well designed.

o good survey...covered many issues; o good use of my time; o efficient way to get required information

a good idea. Helps to keep us interested in the AOD and USMA.

Thanks for the opportunity.

It reads too much like the usual survey saying we have a good organization and why don't you graduates just rubber stamp it. Its a Parkinson’s Law problem. Is this constructive ? Probably not. I just do not appreciate AOG's apparent silence when the USMA Administration takes another step down the wimp-out trail

Current policies of HQ Army and USMA detailed above dishearten me to the point that I cannot with clear conscience support WPF and know that the money will be used for anything worthwhile, I will continue to support the AOG through purchases of AOG sponsored products.

This survey is fantastic. Too often, young graduates, such as myself, are intimidated by the AOG and the assembly. For instance, I am only one of about 90 classes listed in the class pages section. It is so important to the AOG to seek out new graduates and bring them into the fold at the local org level. Show them the customs of the service and if those soldiers decide to leave - show them the customs of the civilian world through a MENTOR PROGRAM. I really want to suggest that. There are so many

graduated postured to help officers transition within their new companies. This type of program will have immediate impact upon the transitioning officer and in turn he/she will refresh their ties with the academy.; ;

thank you; ; Greg Beckman

Make sure to add to Yes, and No, an option that provides do not know enough about the subject to answer

see above

See above #30.

Pretty good survey.

This is very effective way to communicate with graduates. Maintain or amplify these procedures

This survey is a good indication that AOG is actively seeking to engage us more and to evaluate its purpose in life. Thank you for the chance to respond.

Good survey...I would like to see the results. Thank you.

This is good to often the younger grads are left out of the loop due to

lack of information.

please add---; 1-how to utilize the efforts of local societies; 2-how to utilize the media to enhance academy goals and AOG goals

Too Long!!!!

I would guess that you will get a greater percentage of response using internet/email than you would from snail mail.; I suggest you train us to respond by doing this on a frequent basis -- say quarterly, but not too regularly. Use one or two questions and encourage some subjective response. This one is good.

I am confused. What is West-Point.org and its relationship to AOG and USMA? The term is used as if it is a separate entity.

Survey is an excellent idea

I have said enough!!!

I've already mentioned some of the problems with the survey. Having done one 5 years ago in pursuance of my Ph.D., I am particularly sensitive to what a black art they are and how you can't test them too many times before going final with them. With this one there were too many times when neither the Yes nor the No answer was appropriate, the forced lists to choose among did not have an Other category or would not allow more than one answer, or such lists did not have a section for comment at the end. Better luck next time.

Sorry, see my comments in Question 30.

Good Effort.; ; Warm Regards

Very good survey

I think this was an outstanding survey. It was concise and to the point. The ability of the AOG to reach more graduates in this manner can only service to strengthen the Corps.

Appreciate this idea of a survey.

I believe the survey is a good idea. I don't recall my opinion being asked for before, so at least you're giving all AOG members a chance to say what is on their minds. ; ; One small point. Some of us use Macintosh. A Mac Mouse only has one button.

A good start. More power to you.

Sorry for the other comment about losing everything. My stupid (per Maj Vey EE201 garbage in - garbage out) browser had opened two windows.

Determine the sentiment for: protest, or silence,; concerning needs to better guard our country and; preserve our basic schools of military leadership.; ; Do we care enough to do enough?

Thanks for the opportunity for input from the grads. This is a great way to get information in from the grads. I hope that all with the capability will respond!!!; ;

I like the method of the survey. Please keep them coming.

Thanks for asking

I appreciated the opportunity to participate.

Thanks for asking. I do not have much to contribute, but it is always nice to be asked!

Worthwhile survey. Should be used by AOG leadership as guide for funding mission.

Question 5 is incomplete. It does not include the reserve status.

GOOD START

Good start

I would be nice to be able to work on the survey over a time and then submit it. On the internet you have to do it all at once. But, it is a good means of doing it.

The hardest part is just getting started. Thanks for all your work, especially any volunteers!

Thanks for asking.

This is a well conceived survey

I'd like my class to stay at the Thayer sometime before we all die. If that's not a constructive comment, then Amen.

This is a good channel for communications. For instance, I have contributed nothing to the West Point Fund since I discovered the travesty identified in #28. Maybe, open communications ; would help air out the

stale air.

Good survey. On the next one let us explore the; curriculum, housing, tactical training, policies for; the cadets, AOG awards to cadets at graduation.

Thank you for asking.

Nicely done survey; no complaints, technically; or substantively.

I believe we need to go this way for information feedback and dissemination. Appreciate the opportunity and feel honored to participate in the survey. Very well done. Much better than sending through the mail.

Good start. You'll probably get better responses after a year or so on the internet.

The survey in my view is a bit too long and covers too much ground. You might try developing shorter but more focused surveys about specific, limited areas of concern.

Very easy interface.

I think this survey is a great idea. I hope you get a big response.

Great Idea!

I found your internet site and information by searching it out about a month ago. I was very happy to see what existed. I would recommend doing an active search for others on the internet and sending them connection information.

When I visit the Academy on other than planned reunions, I get the feeling that I don't belong anymore and certainly feel that my wishes/wants take last priority. Kind of like a cold shoulder. Where is the graduate hostess???? Other than the concierge at the U.S. Hotel Thayer there is, in my opinion, a lack of information/and greetings to some graduates who are not from the local area. Also some info on What to do on any given weekend for the visiting graduate who haven't been back for some time. ; That cold shoulder feeling doesn't foster a feeling of giving back to the Academy. ;I visited the new Alumni Center on 15 Nov '97. with two of my classmates and our wives and everything was closed, even the store. There were some folks at the door checking to let you in but other than that nothing. Later on some caterers set some soup/chili out, while we warmed ourselves by the

fire, but we did not partake since we assumed it was for a particular class function. A general lack of warmth for some returning grads and wives

who came a long way (from San Francisco, Dallas and Columbus Ohio) for a football game and mini-reunion was our departing feeling. It just seemed like the whole weekend we were last priority on everything! We felt like we deserved more, maybe a notch above some parents club or visiting scouts!! Am I just sensitive or have others mentioned this???

Not enough choices in some categories. Happy with USMA, or No with comments not enough flexibility.

Some college alumni magazines may have good ideas to offer. If you aren't doing this already, I suggest having someone in your office subscribe to several top college alumni magazines to see some possibilities for Assembly. The Wellesley magazine is superb.

Very nice job!-

This is an easy to collect data by AOG and for me to participate

Good idea!

You would probably get a higher response rate if you could construct the survey as an email that could be filled out in the same manner but then simply replied to instead of requesting grads to take the time to visit a

specific URL.

Please keep us informed and included by all available means of communication in the future.

Good Luck

Please continue good work such as this survey to reach the graduate population.

Lets ask some hard hot button questions, like what graduates feel about: absence cards, acknowledgement statements, privileges, etc.

I think a questionnaire such as this should be sent out in mail to the members. I think you are missing a large portion of grads who were not contacted by the survey mechanism, even though they may have access to the internet and email.

I think some of your questions are a bit too biased in answer choices, i.e. totally agree with us or everything is wrong. Probably should have had a wider variety of responses or more careful, less biased, wording.

A most welcome addition to the AOG's list of services. This survey is an excellent first step towards 1) better communication with the Graduates, and 2) getting feedback to change the statement of purpose of the AOG.; Like to learn more about the relationships between the USMA, AAA and AOG. Statements of purpose, focus, interplay and/or overlap.

Too long.

Question # 7 did not allow for a response that leaves open the possibility of volunteering in the future or for reasons why one can not volunteer. Question 23 should have response for not sure.

This survey is well-done. Please send another in about 3 years.

Keep up the good work!; MBG; thanks for the chance to respond....

Thank you for the opportunity to comment!!!!!

I appreciate the opportunity to participate.

done in block 30

For Question 11, I could not decide which answer covered Assembly and the Register of Graduates.; ; Question 29 would read better with affecting

instead of impacting.

Survey the graduates about the role of women in the military and at West Point. I suspect the reaction against would be very strong.

This (electronic survey) is a good idea.

I am generally pleased with the AOG, and look forward to belonging and supporting the organization.

-By far the easiest and most professional on-line survey I have ever seen. -A credit to AOG Chairman that he put his name on this quality product.;

-A credit to West-Point.Org that they took this initiative to put this survey together.; -Look forward t

Questions 28 & 29 did not include all appropriate responses. There should be a response for being unaware of any policies etc. which are affecting USMA.

The response line for question 22 on my survey had the answer circles and the answer (e.g. yes) on different lines. I would try to fix that, as you may get no answers that meant to be yes answers.

Nice survey... a series of surveys with more detail, triggered by certain responses, might be even more useful, since some areas are very complex,

and not well suited to coverage by a few questions. Multiple choice are more fun than essays, though. Thanks for asking!

Support the needs of the Grad, and the Grad will support the institution. (Support the troops, and the troops will support you)

This is a great idea - keep it up.

A survey is only as good as the results it produces. Let's have some feedback on how our comments are received and put to work.

Love having an electronic format. I use email/internet all the time and is a better way for me to stay informed on what the AOG and the Academy are doing... Thanks...

Great idea.

The strict, yes/no, response is too rigid. Some questions might have been better with a few maybe's, don't know, and/or comments.

I look forward to the results, and on more information on how we, the membership, can have a better influence on what the AOG does, or decides to do.

good survey - not too long and seems to be asking the right questions

Good idea. But whether or not AOG can be effective in future goals and missions of the Academy is, in my opinon, doubtful. But the effort must be made.

The survey was a good idea, but pretty lengthy and time-consuming. You might want to consider quarterly shorter surveys on specific topics to solicit feedback from grads.

Good job. You'll see the changes you need based on what you do not get back.;

May want to see who serves in the Guard or ; Reserves. May be helpful for admissions or help those who have a civilian life keep that lifetime of service option open. Just a thought that may be helpful.

Can't remember the question, but there was one about activities that did not specify whether you are asking about current, for instance, office holder in a WP Society or past. Oh well.

In several questions, survey did not provide an appropriate response selection for my opinions or addressed subjects I did not care to discuss.

Keep the Assembly coming and improving. Do more with the electronic communication. It will be more and more important. I am writing from my home in Bavaria. ; This survey was fun, but you need more time to think the answers out than I could give tonight.

In today's electronic age, we are all inundated with information electronically and through junk mail. The AOG must be sensitive to this fact and provide information when necessary or when requested. For

instance, sending out a brief e-mail to those connected highlighting important information with hyperlinks to the AOG Web page. That way, those interested could get the full details by going to the Web page. Information should be sent out through only one means, USPS for those without e-mail and e-mail for those who request this means of communication.

The survey is an excellent idea. I appreciate that the AOG values my input. Thank you.

The survey seems comprehensive. Will be anxious to see the results of the survey and implementation of suggestions.

Good job getting the Grads involved. We should all be more involved....as long as our voices are heard and actions are taken!

Well constructed survey.

Please conduct these surveys quarterly/periodically because there are probably issues which may come to mind now that I know there is a mechanism for addressing them. e-mail is the best way to keep all graduates informed. Let everyone decide which topics they don't want sent.

I have to congratulate you. Except for the fact that I was unable to open the two extra windows, it is one of the better surveys I have seen. Fortunately, also, as Class President and participant on the WP forum I am

familiar with many of the issues. I look forward to seeing the results.

I sure do hope you regard above comments as constructive ... they were intended to be.

Good survey.

We are currently in the process of sending in donation and Assembly Subscription. We held off on both during recent PCS

I love the fact that you are using this survey in the first place.

I think we should do this twice a year. It would give the AOG a chance to get a feel for the feelings and attitudes of graduates on a regular basis.

Excellent survey; should be repeated annually.

N/A

Keep taking the pulse.

Would appreciate a summary of results.

Good survey. Something like this should be done more frequently. Hopefully more people will make use of email so you can get a better representation as the years go by. Thanks again for the opportunity to comment.

Surveys such as this are an excellent way to get laggards, such as I, off their duffs.

This survey is a great idea. Let's do more!

I am still learning to take advantage of this new world of electronic communications. What the AOG is doing here to reach out is good & should be heralded as such. Thanks

Good survey. BTW, while I'm not active now, I'll be retiring in a couple of years and hope to be more active then.

I really appreciate this electronic communication. I am serving in Poland at the American Embassy. As a result of your efforts I am more plugged in now than ever before about what AOG and West Point are doing. Thank you.

The electronic survey form is very convenient!; Continue this kind of innovative approach!

Ref item 4. I usually subscribe to Assembly. Did not this year.; Ref item 5. Civil life. Working professionally: that is, in a job search after being back in grad school.

Surveys are surveys I doubt this survey will change much in itself. It is just another input for considerations.

Good Idea !!

THANK YOU....it's about time!!!!!

Great work in reaching out!!!!!!

I think this survey is a step in the right direction. USMA is certainly very lucky to have very bright alumni who have a sense of duty to something

larger than themselves. AOG should be able to put that to work on behalf of USMA and the country. I think AOG will have to play a bigger role in transition assistance. The job fairs are great, but that is just a first step. Thank you for all you are doing up there and please let me know if there is any way I can help (besides sending money).

I am a newcomer to the Internet and still somewhat sensitive about the cost of time on it not to mention phone bills. It would appear to me that a hard copy would get better answers.

Using e-mail is certainly a convenient and fast; way to communicate, and I hope to see more e-mail; based information from you in the future.

Would be interested in the feedback as gathered from all participants.

Look forward to the next one.

Thanks for the survey. This is a good undertaking to improving communications.

Many USMA graduates are serving in the Guard and Reserve. Let's not forget that!

Soliciting this information is a step in the right direction Now our leaders need to consider it and act on it.

This survey is a good attempt at linking graduates opinions to development of academy & AOG. ; I personally believe the AOG can become a viable

organization to support two agendas: that of the grads, and that of the academy leadership. BUT, to achieve the second, the first must be first. Currently, I do not see AOG as an org focused on the grads.

Most of the questions suggest that AOG has already made its action list [with some exceptions], and has lost sight of the membership purpose. Ask yourselves the question: How does what I am planning to do support or assist the average member?

Great effort.

Good survey. Appreciate your efforts to get feedback from grads.

Your block number 2 needs to be rewritten or a new choice added. I am x'73. I attended three years but did not graduate.

Excellent forum. Keep it up!

I believe I gave you most of my views. If you have a follow up survey, I will be happy to participate.

I assume that The Assembly was implicit in the sources of information for AOG in question 1. the Assembly is my primary source of info on changes at West Point. (and apparently I have missed reading a great deal about the changes or else they have not been covered)

To be honest, I was not aware of all of the great services and activities under the AOG umbrella. This survey was painless, and very informative. Thank you!

For me, this survey format was relatively simple and efficient. May want to consider other ways the internet can enhance communications with grads, at least some of them.

Thanks for asking

The AOG is missing many opportunities to benefit itself, the Academy, and Graduates. I am not sure why these opportunities are being missed, but I am confident the AOG could do better, and when it does, it will get my business.; ; Two examples:; ; 1. Five years ago, I had an AOG Master Card and a USAA Master Card. I cancelled my AOG card not because of the higher rate (I didn't mind contributing to the AOG), but because of the way I was treated by the service department.; ; 2. I buy lots of clothing items by mail. Land's End,, LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, etc. The clocks the AOG offers are nice, but my guess is that you could make a lot more money with more mainstream items w/USMA logos.

Thank-you for soliciting input from the graduates.; An on-line form like this is an excellent tool.; Please continue to use this in the future.

I think the AOG has done a fine job and I look forward to your efforts in the future.

Good survey. Glad to see us moving into the electronic age.

Great idea! Do more of these.

this is a great step forward...keep up the good work. I will probably be more involved as more is done electronically

I think the AOG is doing a good job and; I particularly like its internet presence.

Your possible responses to question Number 5 leave a huge gap, as they disregard the possibility that a grad is serving in the National Guard or Reserve. For example, I am currently an LTC in the Army National Guard, but my full-time employment is as a civilian. I would be interested in seeing you expand your recognition of, and service to, that group of graduates. You might wish to begin by identifying the size of that group; I think you may be surprised.

A great start...look forward to reviewing the results at our next or future Communications Committee meeting. Again, I am pleased with the direction that we are headed, the AOG leadership, and the active participation of our Trustees and Army Family!!! Compare the situation today with that existing 5 years ago!!! Keep the faith and read about what is really going on at the AOG & USMA levels!!!

Encourage graduates to return to West Point to conduct scholarly research and to present formal or informal lectures to cadets concerning military experiences and lessons learned. For example, to describe tours with CIA, State Department, DIA, White House, Congress and other agencies.

Please keep up the automation/telecommunication efforts! I think AOG will get much more participation this way in the long run.

Thanks for asking

Such a survey is a good way for you to include those of us who do not live in the U.S. but who do not want to loose touch with what is happening at West Point.

Really like using the WWW to do this.

Couldn't seem to deselect answers, i.e. leave any blanks, and perhaps was never an option.

question 12 wording confusing. important is used twice.

I think the survey is well done. Provides plenty of space for me, and I understand the need to know what folks want.

Too long.

Very well done.

Survey to long

Good survey - thanks.

An excellent survey instrument. Best that I have seen on the Web yet.

Nice idea.

Using the internet is a good decision.

Great Idea

Good, effective surveys are difficult to develop. You must first assume the targeted audience knows exactly what you are asking about. I found myself wondering what your question was driving towards. When you asked for suggestions, it was easier to answer 'yes' than add comments. Where possible, generate a list (rather than a box for comments if 'no' is chosen.) Such a list more often jogs ones memory and helps pull our more

suggestions. (Ex.: #14,15,17,18,20); You did well in down-playing AOG fund raising (only briefly mentioning it.) My association with the NJ

Society (for 17 years a member, 14 years on the Board of Governors, and 4 years as President)I have found mentioning fund raisers turns off a lot of our membership. As members so often put it, we are forever 'hounded' by AOG for money. (They include AAA, class reps and local Societies in this

group.) This process, as implied, must be kept separate from your everyday activities. Also, with all the implied negativism towards fund drives, an important factor in donating is knowing where the money is going. Too often we ask for support and assume everyone knows where the money will be spent. Well, maybe they should, but we've found in NJ that we get better responses if the targeted audience is reminded why we are asking for help. Even then, the percentage of responses is low!

None, I took the revised survey, and found it easy to do.

I have often been concerned, even with my classmates, on how to get a wider involvement in West Point affairs from more graduates. I believe it should remain a priority to find communication vehicles and projects to reach disaffected graduates. From personal experience., I believe this is tough but AOG must strive not to be a service of the few but an organization of the many. The only criticism (observation) that I have heard from others about AOG is that it is an organization that is mostly influenced by retired senior officers and more senior classes. I personally do not hold that view but if this opinion is prevalent, I believe that AOG should address it. If it is not prevalent, continue to drive on. Finally, my compliments to a great staff who are always available to advise and assist.

Good survey. A little long and too many issues covered.

Thanks for asking!

This was/is a good idea!

this survey was a great idea! It's a quick & easy forum which grads can use to provide AOG with meaningful, quantitative feedback!

Good first effort. It would be instructive to do it again in a year or so, and see how/if attitudes have changed. I appreciate the opportunity to 'vent my spleen' a little.

An excellent tool for communication and feedback

great idea to use the electronic media to gather input. my personal participation will increase if this media is used more.;

I assume there is some reason you want to know my military status in question 5, so I think you should modify this question to include Guard/Reserve as a category. With respect to military/civilian status,

these officers are not the same as a civilian. Many graduates are members of the Active Reserve, which means they are not on active duty, but are assigned to a Guard/Reserve unit. They still attend all the Army

professional development schools, and must meet all Army standards and regulations. ;

Thanks for the opportunity to voice my opinion. This is an easy way to do it.

Good survey. I would recommend a follow up in a year. An open line to the AOG can create a stronger relationship between the graduates and the AOG and

help meet the first three management goals.

None. Drive on.

I think this is a useful outreach tool to get the rank and file informed. ; ; We must use the technology which is accessible to the least common denominator used by our audience. The USMA Homepage has similar technology barriers. Some of us who haven't upgraded our browsing capabilities are still more PC-literate or capable than other interested parties who could

become assets, were they included in the process.

Should include a no opinion/possible answer option

Take this seriously.

I would hope that the AOG got something out of it. As an AOL subscriber (The largest on line service in the US) I was a bit disappointed that your survey wasn't originally viewable by their PowerPC browser. Maybe you ought to do a little technology leveling next time. And by the way – not everyone uses Windows or has a left mouse button. As an IT professional (Using Mac OS, Linux, and yes, Windows95/NT) I understand - I just don't sympathize.

Some of your yes/no questions needed maybe or both answers for me (with clarification). The questions on volunteering and attending AOG meetings come to mind; there may have been others.; ; On the Trustee selection process, I would have answered I don't recall if the choice were available; Question 5 should track Reserve status as well.

None at this time

Good survey. Nice start into keeping members actively involved.

AOG is a great association, let's keep it that way.

Very quick, easy to read/respond and takes less time than the junk mail method. I appreciate your efforts.

Thank you for the electronic option!

I believe that encouraging and supporting ethnically-focused AOG chapters is inimical to the purpose of the AOG. It is divisive rather than unifying. It creates the potential for dysfunction rather than function. In the long run, it will be counter-productive. I appreciated the lengthy discussion on this subject with an AOG vice president several months ago, but it did nothing to alleviate my discomfort and concern. I believe it's an

appropriate area of concern for the next survey. ; ; I'd be very interested in knowing how West-Point.org feels about it. ; ; Interesting survey. Again, thanks for asking.

I expect to receive the results of this survey. Thanks.

Great idea - you got me thinking about West Point again with this survey.

See block 30.; ; I find the Home Page VERY useful and informative.

Please provide far more information on fund raising; where are the funds being allocated and by whom.

Well done.; ; HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well Done!

Initially, I didn't want to take the time to look at this on the Web, but after taking it, I found it to be easy and now, I just hope that after filling in everything, I don't get an email error message, making it a waste of time. Good work!

Thank you for soliciting my comments.

I heartily endorse and commend AOG's shift toward electronic communication and delivery of services. Well done AOG staff and class officers shepherding class lists. This survey is but one example.

The survey is a good idea. I appreciate having the opportunity to comment.

Well done.

I appreciate the opportunity to provide feedback through this survey.

The purpose of this survey was ?????

Not as long as I feared.

This is great! In 18 years of membership in the AOG, I have never had the opportunity for this breadth and depth if input to the AOG and USMA. Though I am, basically, very pleased with the current functioning and

performance of AOG and USMA, I appreciate the opportunity to express it.

I do not know if anyone reads these surveys, but it does present a relatively easy mechanism to add individual opinions to the record.

Very well done, very user friendly. I am not a computer guy and I had no problems.

Thanks for the opportunity to provide input.

Although I did not have any additional notes to add at this time, I greatly appreciate 2 things:; ; 1. Being asked for feedback - this can only make AOG stronger, and should be a yearly process; 2. The chance to complete this survey electronically, via the Web. Keep using this important medium! Although I did not have any additional notes to add at this time, I greatly appreciate 2 things:; ; 1. Being asked for feedback - this can only make AOG stronger, and should be a yearly process; 2. The chance to complete this survey electronically, via the Web. Keep using this important medium!

This is a great survey from a convenience standpoint. I also appreciate the chance to make comments, even if I'm griping. Thanks for putting it together.

Please see the answer to question 30.

This is a great way to foster feedback from graduates.

I feel that one detailed set of instructions about closing various windows suffices. dump the extraneous BS from the other pages.

I think this is a good idea, but must admit that I have not been active or involved to an extent that would allow me to answer in a meaningful way in many of the areas. I do think it would be valuable to ensure that all AOG members are aware of the services provided. Although I had seen reference to some of them, I was not aware of all of them.

GREAT!! We appreciate your efforts to keep the West Point family together.;

Please consider having the goals and services in a ranking question such as question #12 so that members can rank which they feel are most important.

Great survey......I am glad that we are taking a proactive look at ourselves.

Survey was well done.

Electronic surveys seem to be very effective. This is a good idea.

Nicely designed survey

Well done!

I think this survey is a good opportunity to have a voice. I appreciate being given this chance to provide my opinions. Thanks.

It's a good survey; Well worth the time.; The proof is will the AOG do any thing about the issues exposed by this survey? If not, the survey will be a waste of time. The AOG needs to step up to the issues and act!

Glad to see it.

thanks for fixing the site. I couldn't get in earlier, and I'm web-savvy. I'd bet you missed a lot of folks who stopped after several attempts.

Good survey. Let us know the results, please.

Was easy enough.

Some questions need to be repeated, maybe just by publishing the results and asking for comments. Do be sure that members get summarized results.

Thanks for doing the survey - long overdue. Do need to provide feedback re: same and then how you plan to implement changes and assess the success of same.

Great job. Keep up the good job!

Q's 12 & 13 were not totally clear to me.

1. Just having the survey is in and of itself a positive step for the AOG.; 2. I'd suggest the AOG benchmark other alumnae organizations from the best

universities and colleges to see what they do to support their graduates and school. I'm sure some useful ideas would come from that.

I have been a marginal player in AOG circles, given my other priorities of family and work. Keep up the good work -- that's why we support you.

Good idea. Will be glad to participate in future.

Thanks for including me. Except for solicitations and the Assembly (which I purchase), I've never been contacted by the AOG for anything.

Compliments to Col. Hudgins for the great job he is doing.

Thanks for your work!

I like the survey but would have liked time off line to consider my thought responses. Just cannot do it tonight. Sorry.

Very efficient way of soliciting opinion.

Wonderful organization. would have preferred to do it offline though. Some places do not have an ISP that gives you unlimited time.

Re-look wording on question #12.

Be aware that not ALL of us use ms windows. The single mouse button on a Macintosh does what a Mac user expects it to do in filling out this form.

Well done. This survey gets to the heart of the issues.

Thank you for your persistence

Welcome to the 20th Century! This sort or survey is about ten years later than it should have been. I like the format and encourage AOG to continue this sort of progress. I probably would not have taken the time to answer a mail out survey.

You kept inviting me to reply; insisting would be more accurate. (through West Point.org).; I hope this shotgun blast hits some targets you can use.

I appreciate the opportunity to provide information to AOG leadership.

Great survey - congratulations!

This survey is beautifully prepared. The responsible Graduate Consultant group, involving Classes from 1949 through 1990, must be especially commended for their wisdom and judgment, objectivity and grand

contribution. Beyond that, the genius which enabled the technical side, represented by the Class of 1990 to sing as this Survey does, deserves the highest acclaim and reward. It was a high honor, and privilege for me

personally, to have been invited to participate in the production and management of this Survey.

Great idea to do this; those of us who do e-mail may be a minority but it shows that we are concerned, so keep on with the communication.

Great survey! As a grad, I feel it is important to give or feedback to our institution. We also need to question any and all significant policy changes to cadet life / training.

Good, open-ended survey, well-constructed to take advantage of the web.

I could not get the drop down box for class year to go past 1965. I am really 1972.

why do you add the phrase constructive to comments? Aren't all comments welcome?

I'm sorry that I could not pull up your Goals and Service statements.

This seems like an efficient means of communicating with AOG members. This survey was more painless than I anticipated.

I would like to know how many graduates actually participate in association activities, and would like to see ways individuals can participate without being a member of a local chapter.

Let's keep the destructive politics out of our academy.

I clicked on goals and services and nothing happened.

This is an excellent survey - technically and in content. Some of the questions required more thinking (and time) than I realized up front. Suggest a note at the top to warn people of what the survey in trying to get at. Question in my mind as I took it were: why now? why this question? Is there something brewing? Great questions, however.

Please continue to do surveys such as this one. However, I would prefer a format that I could fill out off-line and send back by e-mail.

See above

I currently use AOL- tried to access goals and services links, but server could not retrieve them; consequently, do not know what they are and cannot comment on them

This is a duplicate of the survey I completed earlier today. From the feedback I received this evening, I felt that most of my responses did not get through, (so much for modern technology). Hope this does not skew your statistics having to link to the different lists and things makes it more difficult to get to them. many people may not go to them, invalidating your survey.

This is a great start to getting feedback from our grads - those who the AOG serve. We need to report the results of this survey as quickly as possible and follow up in areas where it appears more information is needed. Anytime we can give grads a forum to voice their views is great -like the telephone survey I just completed on the Bicentennial.

I'd ask how often you visited USMA in the last year and five years. And also did you attend your last reunion

Don't send me any more self-serving surveys.

Glad you are doing this.

Excellent survey; Thank you for reminding the grads who are on the e-mail lists

I hope this will be the first step in a continuing process to make AOG more open and visible to its members.

Follow-up on the professional networking described in question 16.

This is a powerful means of interaction. I may not be able to contribute a great deal financially, but perhaps other graduates like me are willing to interact with thoughtful experience--I am glad to see that someone places value on this experience. Money can't always buy the right advice.

Using e-mail to conduct this survey is an excellent idea. It would be a great help for passing important information in the future.

The survey was very well done. It brings to light a lot of things which are going on unknown to many of us out in the civilian world.; ;Curious....what is the relationship between government/taxpayer funding of

the Academy, and contributions made by graduates and others?

It is evident from this survey that I have had little use for the AOG in the past and I anticipate little in the future.

see # 29.

Need to publicize more actively in the Assembly on how to get to the various Homepages and other internet options.

Question #23 should have a block titled Aware of Process but did not vote. I am aware of the process, but did not vote last time.

Good idea!

Survey was ok.

The survey could have been more specific on issues and goals of the AOG. For instance, instead of asking what concerns us, LIST what some of the Historical concerns are, and ask how important they are to the members, just like you did for the member benefits and management goals.

This is a great information gathering technique and should be rapidly expanded.

Excellent Survey; Wish I were more constructive, but am battling cancer.

The survey was a good idea. I hope others respond. And I hope someone is listening. I'm sure they are.

I hit return on the first survey after my email address was entered and the program forwarded the whole survey with nothing else in it. So this is a resubmission. You might want to throw the first one out. Thanks.

Great Idea to ask for feedback.

Thanks for the survey and the opportunity to provide some input.

Thanks for asking for my input

Good Survey. I wish you all the best in the coming year.

How about adding E-mail addresses to the Register of Graduates. Also, these surveys are a great idea to get information from those of us in the field.

Good idea...

Good idea but sometimes these types of surveys are difficult to do on-line. They require more thought than most folks take while logged on--especially the more open ended questions.; ; Question 3 threw me a bit.

Any of us who are grads could claim that we were a former cadet--but don't think that is what you were getting at.

Would love to see more E-mail updates and communication

I think it is a good idea to make this survey available to all for continuous feedback. Thanks!

Keep plugging!

Sir/Ma'am,; ; Though it is a much used term-old corps, and I know that I am not one of them...perhaps there should be a feedback column on the level

of professionalism, courtesy, and honor we witness in those Cadets when they come to the 'Real Army' during summer rotations and other training events. I would love to pat those on the back who came here with a desire to wear BDU's to work on a daily basis (CDT Wayne Pare, company D-3 <=?), and chastise those who come here without a clue what an E-7, Platoon

Sergeant does and couldn't even find the safe on an M-249. ; All responses above; ; Very Respectfully.

It's a nice job. It still requires some skill to keep it up and answer the questions as you go along. Thanks and good luck!

I assume you plan to publish any 'results' that occur from the survey. If not, please do so.

Good idea

I think this survey is a good idea and that there should be more of them. And they should address controversial issues.

Thanks for doing this. I have not been very active in any Academy happenings in the past. Perhaps that is because there aren't many activities or grads in my immediate area, but am not sure about that.

This is a good survey. It was long overdue

I think that the first step in communication is an active interest in the feedback from the people that help support the organization. This survey was relatively painless and showed an interest in that feedback.; ; It would be very important for those who participate in this process to receive feedback about the level of participation, any actions that may or may not result or any status about the usage of this information. Without that feedback this would prove to be a worthless exercise to those that are not par of the process.

I really like the electronic format and believe the internet has dramatically increased interaction for many of us previously out-of-the-loop Old Grads. Thanks, and keep it up.

The survey is an excellent idea. In this on-line format it should elicit a significant response.

Technically it is well done. Some areas are probably less clear to me living on a farm in Missouri than they are to the folks that attend the meetings in New York City every month.

See #30 above.

Thanks for asking views.

You have mainly asked for categorical yes or no answers. Reckon you did not want us to waffle.; ; I would be interested if any other graduates are concerned about the system that rewards those who fail to live up to the standards of Duty, Honor, Country and punishes those who do. If you ever read the report of the Congressional Committee that investigated the Fort

Lee airfield construction some forty years ago, you may recall that they mentioned the system.

Please fix the program in this survey so that when you leave it to look at goals, etc, it retains the data!

ASSEMBLY Magazine is my main source of information about West Point.

I appreciate the time and efforts that put this together and I look forward to seeing the results.

Good survey!

Believe e-mail/electronic communication will allow more graduates to participate AOG activities. Many of us on active duty are unaware of AOG activities. Believe most who participate in AOG activities are no longer active duty. Communication is the key to participation.

You are doing an outstanding job overall.; ; For future surveys, I would consider a frames-based format with a no-frames backup. It is much better from a human factors perspective.

Add a status in block five for graduates that have left the Active component but are continuing to serve in the Reserves or National Guard.

Three smileys; ; I would like further info on how to create this kind of electronic survey. How do I get it?

Other than the funding letters--send money. Or Assembly, there seems to be little information from the AOG. I have been in Korea and then Germany over the past four years and this is the first survey received. The Class information is quite good, but overall AOG information is not. I would like to see it become more active. It seems like a select few are involved in the process.

Publish verbatim some of the concerns that grads have about the direction of West Point.

you might consider including some more focused questions on areas addressed in response to this survey. e.g. Questions of current (and continuing) interest to graduates such as the RA commissioning problem

Well done! Kudos to the authors! :-)

Good use of current technology--thanks!

EXCELLENT! MY CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WORK AND ATTEMPT TO IMPROVE THE AOG.

Great idea to conduct a survey

Filling out an electronic survey doesn't provide the means and time to give very thoughtful responses. If you want in depth responses you need a process which gives time for thought.

Thanks for the effort to reach and gain feed back.;

I think it is a good idea to survey AOG membership; from time to time to keep pace with member needs; and desires. Since we are the customers of the AOG; system, our input is important and necessary.

Thanks for the opportunity to participate and provide feedback. I look forward to seeing the results of this survey. ; ; BEAT NAVY!!!

Good way to do a survey.

Probably need to start thinking about a new football coach. We are right back where we were three years ago.

Longer than I thought it would be

This type of survey methodology is superb.

I don’t see the value of this Non AOG organization West Point Org. Frankly, I have been confused by it. ; ; I have found using Navy's home page etc to be a lot easier than trying to find anything on the USMA AOG pages. Take it for what its worth; ; In the same vein, I notice that all o f the Navy stuff is through SNA.Navy.mil Vs USMA.edu. Navy anticipates mids using the

system to do work with in the navy. They found that the .mil allowed them more access than .EDU plus all of the advantages of EDU.

Thanks for asking!!! It was good to have an opportunity to provide comment. USMA did a lot for me personally and I appreciate AOG's work to

support the Academy.

More reference to specific issues in the body of the survey would have helped. I was unable to pull up the additional windows so could not completely answer all questions.

Manual switching with AOL not possible as you outlined--e.g., no bar at bottom of page.

I am very impressed by the AOG's constant attention to the graduates for input, advice and direction.

Excellent initiative -- should give solid feedback.

Survey is good - KEP IT UP !!!! Several decades; in a service function have taught me the only way to know how well you're doing is to ask the recipients of the service in the most convenient way possible - this

internet survey is convenient and fast - KEEP IT UP !!

Please publish the results of the survey electronically.

I think we can be a lot more helpful if we understand more about the AOG -like # personnel, budget, Who leads the leader of the AOG, etc.; What are the issues or what value does AOG want to provide to the graduate community?

Need more blocks of I don't know! I was out of the loop for 20 years and recently discovered AOG again. I am unaware of a lot that is happening.

Great Idea to get the Corps at large involved. Good luck processing the information

An annual survey like this one would be a good thing to do for grads, the AOG, and USMA.

Again, graduates need a stronger voice in USMA/AOG functions, programs, activities. Keep us informed, and let us be involved.

Tell us how we can help in the recruitment of athletes. There are serendipitous opportunities at which I wish I knew more about what the Academy needs.

Thank you for the opportunity to officially provide input.

I think I have figured out why you are asking for input on this survey. I would suggest you put the bottom line up front next time and state the purpose early on and how the info/analysis will be used.

The survey was about the right length, not too long - or short.

Good survey.; Thanks for what you are doing.

So far, I am very impressed with the level of professionalism I have experienced with the AOG and west-point.org electronic services.

Continue to monitor the USMA Class electronic nets and consider their feedback insofar as the affairs of the AOG and the Academy are concerned...but continue to do what is right as well.

I think this a good start and should be ; continued.

This survey's format and processing are good. The only malfunction occurred with the Services page, which did not respond. I realize that is not due to survey format, but server function.

See 14 above. Reorganize so that each manager/leader supervised no more than 4 or 5 others each day, and responded to directives from only one person.

Surveying graduates is a fantastic idea!

Thank you for making it easy to respond over the internet, rather than through snail mail.

Please print the results in the Assembly and in a letter; addressed to each member in this survey.

You might want to expand the civilian ; category to distinguish between pure private ; sector, DOD, and Federal Government (other ; than DOD) to identify military associations ; post active duty. Could be too sensitive.

Thank you for the chance to participate.

Too long. Appears to be too broadly scoped.; ;

ref #30, perhaps some clear, issue-oriented and official policies from the Academy could be spelled out (with background info) and put to us for survey...this could be done periodically, and would be valuable to both us

and the Academy leadership.

Good survey. We all need to open up the commo links to help USMA.;

Good idea to do this...; Thank you

I would like to know how this survey will be used. Will you provide feedback on recommendations made as a result of the input? Will there be a follow up on actions taken as a result of the recommendations?

see above

It would be nice to see general feedback on the responses. Thought the survey was well thought out and helpful.

Great format!

see 30 above.

This survey alone illustrates the desire of the present AOG staff to get input from the grads. I am excited that e-mail will continue to facilitate information flow between the grads and our representatives at AOG.

Good idea

Thank you for going electronic. Now I can reply at my convenience and much quicker. I'd rather have the Register of Graduates on line or CD, save your printing/shipping costs!! ; Happy Holidays!!

Good survey

We should do a survey every year.

Excellent survey - very comprehensive

The survey was fine but I had difficulty accessing it.

Good. Deal in quantifiable measures. As a result of this survey and future surveys be able to gauge trends and perceived benefits over time.

WE appreciate your asking our opinions.

Good survey

Continue the use of both open ended and closed ended questions. Sorry I did not provide more open ended answers, but that was my choice

Next time, identify the no. of questions and the approx. time needed to complete this questionnaire. Perhaps suggest that the respondent print out a list of the questions, jot notes, come back on-line later to enter

responses. Some of these questions have been deep and far-reaching. I've done my best to provide useful responses.

Good survey!!!! Many other issues need to be covered.

none

Thanks for having the survey. It helps us far from the Rock feel included in the process.

I would like to see the results of this survey.

Great survey. Please publish the results when you compile them.

Nice job--next time use black and gold if you can ; :)

Good as any. May make some feel good but I doubt if much will change or could.

I did not know of this survey until today, Jan 4, 98. Why? It is a fact: there is always somebody who doesn't get the word. Be patient, be redundant and keep up this good work.

Good survey--appreciate the opportunity to give feed back.

I am active in the Air Force Reserves. This is not considered active duty, as your survey offers as a selection, but it is current activity with the DoD. Was it an oversight that being in the Reserves was not listed? (Reference LTC Dusty Saunders, US Army Reserve and AOG employee.)

Good job. About time. Need to get this out to those who do not have email. Thanks.

A lot of the survey is almost Greek to me. I pay no attention to trustees and such. The only programs with which I am familiar are the Assembly, Register, and gift shop.

I'm ambivalent about many of the issues and the survey might benefit from answers that were on the order of maybe, etc.

As a USAF retiree, and geographically distant from USMA, I have not been in touch and involved with all the issues recently surfaced at WP regarding the mission statement and academics Vs military.

Do you believe military ldrshp is speaking out for the good of the military?; Your opinion of the impact of the homo/lesbian policy in the military?;

Good survey

Just do not overwhelm us with surveys.

Good survey!

Thanks for asking

Excellent survey although I happen to be in the group of graduates that opted to serve in the Air Force rather than the Army. I would not like our group orphaned because of the events of history.

Some thought-provoking questions that should be given greater attention than a few minutes on the internet...maybe manual mailing of the survey

would give the respondent more time to put his or comments in order.

Good work. I would like to find out a bit more on the results. Thank you

Great tool, if used properly (input is actually read and used by AOG and USMA leadership). I would like to know if anyone reads my response (who). Thanks. GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!!!

Thanks for trying to improve., whether it is needed or not.

Excellent survey, but as a very busy professional with limited time to keep abreast of many of the changes ongoing at USMA, a quick pre-brief for some of the questions highlighting relevant key issues would be very helpful.

Please publish on email and in the Assembly the results of this survey and actions--- if any at all--- that AOG intends to take.

Probably should be done periodically and maybe on some special subjects like funding, athletics, military gender policy, and a bunch of others.

see #30 (can't change answers on survey)

This is a worthwhile effort. We need to focus more on the substance of what we do in guiding West Point, rather than on the admin aspects of the organization.

This is a great way to elicit feedback from the masses.

Make it completely anonymous and I believe you will get responses with much greater specificity and value, especially from those on active duty who know the problems up front and personally.

I am class of 96 and could not seem to load this at the start of survey

We know the mission of USMA is to provide RA career officers to the Army, yet, in reality, we know the average graduate is spending, my guess, is less than 10 years on active duty. What are the concerns of AOG, USMA, and the Army in general of this trend and what is the position of these org.'s towards the preparing these individuals for their post-military careers?

The survey is a great idea. Very glad to see that you are taking the time to solicit feedback. Best of luck interpreting the results.

Thanks for asking about improving the quality of service that AOG provides to USMA and its graduates. I'm generally satisfied with AOG policies and am extremely pleased with the support I have been given from Greg Louks and Tony Ferraiuolo in class issues and reunion matters. I wish I had more time to really get involved in AOG affairs and offer more constructive feedback than I was able to in this survey. DUTY SHALL BE DONE!

thanks for the survey... I can't recall ever being asked for input before...

This site is very difficult to bring up...takes a long time to load up (times out on LAN at work everytime!). Makes a good idea very frustrating. Maybe ought to have a simplified interface to allow easier access. May be a problem with firewalls at work but I don't seem to have the problem with other web sites (AOG itself for example).

I would like to commend those who had the foresight to undertake this initiative and look forward to the results and further participation. Thanks!

I am using AOL to access this survey and find your choice of large fonts for readability very good.; I also have trouble with the data wrapping one item into the next, for a little confusion.; I would like to see the items requesting participation in more surveys (the e-mail messages) to have hyper links that can be clicked on to get into the survey site without having to copy down the URL, etc, then going into the internet.

great survey

Very user-friendly. Thanks.

I have no objection to female cadets at West Point on a temporary basis. I do feel it is necessary for there to be an Academy devoted to female members of the Armed Forces. This was accomplished for the Air Force in the

'50's.

A good first step.

Thanks for this opportunity. This survey in and of itself shows the AOG's outreach attempt to more actively involve all grads. Thank you.

Excellent survey. Thanks for your efforts on behalf of the AOG

I am a AOL user and had problems moving back to the survey after viewing other windows. Survey did not appear at bottom of screen. Was able to move back and forth by clicking Menu Window

Seth Hudgins and his crew are doing a great job...keep up the good work!

This is a good way to keep in touch. Even if you send out an initial notice on Juno for us to look on the internet for new messages. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to participate in this survey. Looking forward to future surveys and information.

none.

Thanks for the opportunity. Thanks for sending it out e-mail.

Great means of communicating and getting people involved; keep it up!

Excellent survey.

Good Idea

Appreciate the opportunity to take the survey. It would be nice if the AOG and other organs of the academy, official or otherwise, would take the time and effort to structure such a mechanism.

Good survey. Thoughtfully prepared and easy to complete. Thanks.

I couldn't find it until I got it in this format.

USMA needs to return to the basics, back to its roots. USMA was founded to produce Army officers to win the Nation's wars not leaders of big industry who make big $. Young grads want the prestige the diploma offers only to use it in the civilian sector.

Good Survey. Why not put the personal history form on the net so that we can update that on line as well?

Excellent initial survey. It reaches the younger grads who are neither terrified by the computer nor afraid of electronic progress. ; ; For older grads, quill pens and parchment still remain the preferred means of

communication <big grin>.

With a full-time job, a part-time job, and a new son, I'm not as active in our local WP Society as I was last year. In fact, I have been completely unaware of issues related to USMA at large. Please let me know if there is an information page at the AOG website that I can check from time to time to catch up. Thanks.

Great idea and well done.

I would like to see the results of the survey, and then a listing of proposed actions to try to implement the results

Good job - I especially like the electronic means of delivery.

Question 7 should have had a 'Don't know' option.; When I went to erase my 'yes' answer, in order to leave it unanswered, I was unable to do so. Thus you may have produced a few marginal answers within the instrument. Overall very good survey. Thanks.

With the amorality, situational ethics, and spins that come out of Washington, and the unbridled ambition of some, it's essential that AOG retain its integrity. This may best be done by keeping USMA graduates aware

of sensitive issues. We don't like to read about them in the newspapers, particularly when there's an E-mail connection and a paid staff at Herbert Hall. Few of us will support AOG if it appears that it is the Superintendent's voice. The survey is timely and appreciated. If there are controversial issues, by all means get the viewpoint of those graduates whose OER won't be affected by their personal opinion.

I applaud the process - well done.

Thank you for taking your time to make up this survey. I really appreciate the work all of you have done. If I come up with other questions, I shall send them on through e-mail.

I appreciate the opportunity for the survey, though it was difficult to get to it while on vacation over the holidays.

Good way to communicate!

I think the AOG should publish a policy statement or some other kind of document explaining the entire fund raising system, and further explaining the need to raise private funds for an Federally funded institution on an

Army Post, which unless I miss my guess by a wide margin, is like every other Army post in the nation and the world, owned entirely, inch by every-loving inch, by the Federal government and thus by the people of the United States. I am unaware that any other Army post in the United States has a continuing fund raising drive in order to build brick walks or any other kind of facility. I would be very interested in knowing how and why West Point differs in this regard from, say, Fort Leavenworth, the home of the Command and General Staff College, or Carlisle Barracks, the home of the Army War College. It has occurred to me that there is a kind of knee-jerk behavior by alumni to raise funds for the college they went to, and I wonder if West Point is in this regard similar to, say, Princeton, or Vassar. I would be interested to know if there are laws which preclude the expenditure of Federal funds for the kinds of projects the AOG raises money for. I understand, for example, that private monies were raised to build the Jewish Chapel on land donated by the government, and support such a project being so-funded in furtherance of the separation between Church and State. However, I would like to see the AOG's explanation of the reasons the church of the AOG and its projects needs to be separated from the state of the Academy.; ; respectfully submitted.

My concern would be in the area of the AOG becoming a bureaucracy which takes on additional services which are not required by membership. The

smaller the leadership and supporting organization remains, the better. Concentrate on the support of the Academy, and the Army, rather than building a large organization of people and services.

Thank you for all of the time and energy you all have put into creating and administering this survey. You all have done a fine job.; Beat Navy!

very good idea -- please forward results to all graduates and societies.

I suggest that the next survey should be constructed to assess status in each of the goals (Q#16) and future surveys should assist in measuring progress in each goal area.

I actually learned a lot about AOG from this survey. I should have already known this info.

Good concept!

This was an easy to complete and understand survey. Good format.

good survey, cheers for the designer

I'm too damn old and too far away to take more than a slight interest in AOG problems or missions. I wish you a productive effort to sustain a high value for the Academy. West Point must set the standards for the service and the Nation. It can only accomplish this through the quality of education and standards

This survey is a step in the right direction. I will be much better prepared to participate in the next one.

The internet works!

This survey is a great step in the right direction. Kudos to those involved. This grad sincerely appreciates your efforts.

See above and please respond. I'd like to forward your concerned comments to Ret. Col. David Hackworth. Please let me have your sainted permission.

thanks boys.

This survey should have been run off of the AOG site. Using wp.org implies AOG approval, which is not necessarily the case, at least as far as the general membership.

Seems to have well thought out questions and is certainly easy to complete-- took me only about 10 minutes. I would be interested to see the results!

Good, unbiased survey.

Good survey. I only hope you use the information and not just play it lip service.

The survey is easy to follow and use.

This is a well laid-out survey. Simple/easy/complete.; Good job.

Thank you for making this effort.

It is nice that somebody asked for our opinion.

Easy to read and use.

This is a very good way to get feedback from the portion of graduates who use email and the internet. Hopefully, that portion will continue to grow.

You should identify what the cut-off date is for analysis of the information, and if this will be on-going, how often the information will be analyzed.

Good job!

good comprehensive survey. Possible questions for future surveys could focus on how USMA prepared grads for civilian life post-army (whether 5, 15, or 25 years later).

Question 5 contains no provision for listing service in the Reserve Components. I've been a USAR officer for 23 years, continue to serve, and constantly encounter fellow grads who have also continued to serve in that

capacity. I hate to say it, but we don't get no respect. I'd like to see RC assignments and awards get the same treatment as AC in the Register, and I'd hope the AOG would do a better job of tracking grads who are still in

uniform, if only on a part-time basis. The fact that a large (growing?) number of grads serve in the RC is also a point to be made with critics of the Academy who are not content with the proportion who complete military careers. It might also help to work the cultural change within the Army essential to finally achieving the goal of One Army.

Good survey. Thanks for your help in setting it up. Those things don't just happen -- lots of work. Good job.

Great idea. Please provide the details of the survey to us ASAP after completion. This should include a textual summary of all questions (i.e. with AOG analysis), as well as a quantitative summary (how many grads responded, and the total yes/no answers for each question.

Survey was very well done. Sorry it took 3 reminders to have me fill it out. Thank you for your persistence.

Great job.

I usually am in the listen mode but for some reason this survey has inspired me to make some comments. Good job.

This is a good quality survey. Thanks for the opportunity to complete it.

I appreciate the opportunity to give feedback. ; Anything that can be done to increase ; communication and make members feel more aware of ; what is

happening and feel a sense of ; participation will make the membership more ; active in serving the AOG.

I am disappointed with my local West Point Society. Having moved to Ohio from Virginia, 1 1/2 years ago, I contacted the organization, received a fax from them once, then never heard from them again. I hope that AOG supports these societies.

Not bad. I wonder if my comments will have any impact, or be put in the round file like many others.

Your concern for feedback immediately is some what over blown. Everyone is not on the web from home or even everyday.; Give time lines and do not expect instant response. That is possible but not very probable.

The E-mail got my attention. It is always nice to get mail about something other than work. I suggest you continue to use E-mail and the Internet to reach graduates throughout the world. I suspect that this is probably the fastest way to get feedback as opposed to the U.S. Mail.

It is great to know that we are working to become a stronger network of graduates.

Great idea! Suggest that you make this a periodic interactive process for getting opinions and responses. I know that this is a lot of work - Thanks. I believe the results will be worth it. (Most will react positively to being allowed to play even if decisions are not 100% agreed to.)

On question 5 there should have been a category for people serving in the RC.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment on the survey. I commend the AOG for the professionalism in both developing this survey and for

asking for feedback. I would be very interested in seeing the results... Good Luck

Very user friendly. Thanks for including me.

I realize that West Point and the AOG is run (predominantly) by West Pointers who are on the scene and aware of the issues and the facts bearing on those issues. I trust them to do what is best for West Point. I wonder why there is all the complaining, carping and gripping that is done on forums such as West Point Org? Do the same disenfranchised loud mouths communicate as often and as Caustically about the running of their government, the UN, their church, their bank, etc....? Why not? Do they trust those organizations more than they trust USMA and AOG?

Do more of this!

-When I call AOG I receive excellent support with reference to the right resource!; -Class reunion support is excellent; -Assembly is superb, I am pleased with the improved content over the last few years, probably a result of the newest editor J. Olinija

From a technical perspective, I thought this was a very well-constructed survey. The automatic links imbedded in the survey were well-done.

This is good...fortunately I had someone forward me some information about needing to do this, otherwise I would have not know about it at all.

Questions 3-5 did not appear on this survey as I was taking it. I gathered from the note following the survey that they were personal questions. I will try to provide the information that I suppose was requested: -I do

subscribe to Assembly.; -I am a 1989 graduate, commissioned in Armor.; -I am currently the commander of HHC, 1-110 IN(M), PA Army National Guard.;

Need a choice for 'do not have enough information or do not know' for several of the questions.

none

Nice survey. I am an IT professional, and I have seen many poor information tools which annoy users--especially those not familiar with computer. You realize that the computer is a tool, and did not set up a questionnaire that would be unacceptable if presented in another way (i.e., on paper).

Use the Internet and email. This is a great way to keep AOG relevant.

A couple of questions are do you still beat your wife type , i.e., 14, 19, and 28. Answers force you to accept a premise re: AOG performance.

What items or info would I be interested in receiving electronically on a periodic basis?

Choices given for getting info on USMA didn't include ASSEMBLY which is my main source.

This survey is being answered by a grad who thinks of USMA about once /year when I hear the score of the ARMY / Navy game on the radio. I highly

recommend you listen to my comment on #14 if you are ever to get people like me interested and educated in the issues facing USMA. On some of your

questions above, I have no idea of the relationship between AOG, Bd. of Trustees, Supe or USMA, or how one interacts with the others. I think your survey will show there are allot of guys like me out here. Your challenge is how to keep us informed without turning us off. As more of us get educated on the issues and news, you'll find participation from guys like me

increase. Hope you find my comments useful. Good luck.

Survey did not appear complete. Questions 3-18 were missing and other lists were missing as well.

Great job on the survey, and even better job in being persistent to get people like me to take the time to fill it out.; Thanks.

The survey is very user-friendly and easy to take. Well done WP-ORG. If I had not just purchased a home computer, I would not have been aware of this survey.

Thanks for the opportunity - and this is a good medium for communicating for me.

Well Done.

Good idea. Well executed to this point. Look forward to the results.

I really don't pay any attention to what is happening at USMA and don't want to be further involved. USMA is old news to me.

Same as in #30!!!

Excellent format! Great job.

Great job! Buzz me if I can help you with anything.

Please disregard the previously sent survey, as it was sent prematurely.

1)Great idea for survey and its construction.; 2)How about feedback summarizing responses received, follow-up actions to be taken, etc.

I think its a great tool and encourage you to continue to use the latest technology to help us all help West Point produce leaders of character for service to our Army and the Nation.

Keep them short.; ; It is difficult staying on-line and fending-off interruptions when doing a long survey and trying to give thoughtful answers. It cannot be temporarily put aside as a paper survey can. Furthermore, AOL keeps wanting to bump you off-line (this is the second time I've tried to complete this ).

Add these questions: Do you think the AOG should perform a role in educating the public about USMA?; ; and... Do you think AOG should perform a public affairs role as an advocate for grads? for the academy? for cadets? other?

Good attempt here, glad to see it. Good survey, good use of current technology. Excellent job on the layout and appearance.

Thank you for providing the survey. WE are the organization and we have a responsibility for making it the best it can be!

Already mentioned.

Question 5 should include Reserves or National Guard as a form of military service.

I like the construction of this survey very much. I believe your method of presenting additional information in areas requiring additional information

(goal & activities) elegant.

Good survey. I do think that one fails to understand the Holidays in the civilian world, as most of us probably saw the survey today, and had already received four e-mails about it. Expecting results back by Jan. 7th for a survey sent out over the holidays is unrealistic.; ; The survey is a well-done instrument.

Good opportunity to give quick feedback without writing and sending a letter

I travel a lot, much of it on short notice and without recourse. That has made it difficult to plan participation in AOG affairs. However, I will try harder. ; ; I appreciate the opportunity to get back in communication. Thanks.

As I stated above, it is difficult for me to support USMA anymore, as I do not believe that the graduates could care less about the military - THE M in USMA. Take a look at the number of graduates who stay in until retirement, now and the past. There is no comparison. We cared. That's why we went there. Not for a bunch of majors or specialty fields.

Good idea

I would favor shorter surveys conducted more often. I would also favor the ability to provide in-depth narrative responses to even Yes/No multiple choice questions.

Excellent survey and a good tool to obtain feedback and perspective from alumni.

The wording of question 3 should include the option for past tense. As I am a former faculty member and many of those positions cannot be held concurrently.

Well developed, well organized survey. Very user friendly.

great idea if you pay attention to the info and do something with the results; especially do not be guided by the majority since they will represent status quo and will only stand in the way of pre-emptively taking

charge of our future - will play into the hands of the media and Congress who do not understand need for USMA!

Very good. You get a 3.0. In my day that was perfect!

it's an excellent survey - I hope it helps in making decisions in the future.

Think it is a beginning!! The way we are progressing, we need more communication with USMA.

Speaking as a computer professional, this survey; was very well implemented.

#5 You do not have a category for retired USAR personnel. Therefore, I checked the block for retired military, working professional. That may be

important for later information. There are many of us who continued our careers in the Army Reserves and the National Guard.

I appreciate the opportunity to provide this feedback via the website and applaud the efforts of the academy and AOG to harness this tool for the good of our USMA! Despite the aggressive tone of some of my comments, I firmly believe our academy and association will continue to thrive due to the talent, energy, and integrity of its graduates.

Great idea. Wish I had more time to think about what I wanted to say (my problem, not yours).

well done, thanks

Thank you for the opportunity to participate. Count me in for future surveys as appropriate.

In question # 5, you asked for the status for active duty, ,retired or civilian. You did not address if you are in the Army Reserves.; ; This is third time I have tried to send this to you. I keep getting kicked out for invalid ID

Some of your open-ended questions are tough to respond to via the email medium.

Thanks for taking the initiative to put out this survey.

excellent tool.; Nice job at keeping length short. That isn't easy.

This was a long survey. I hope that you can do something with the responses. Good Luck.

Welcome the opportunity to provide input; I have accepted the AOG as is for years and feel free to continue to do so. I lack background to provide more meaningful feedback in many areas.; ; I trust men and women participating in the management of the AOG implicitly because they are people of character. West Point cannot keep up with the academic capabilities of many of the nation's educational institutions, but it can continue to lead in one - that of developing leadership. Thank you; WSS

I think these surveys are good ideas even for those of us in the boondocks.

Question #11 If the Assembly is an etc under AOG then that's where I get most of my info followed by classmates who are assigned at WP.

I do not mind participating in a survey. In some cases I feel as though I do not have enough information to make a valid response. I retired in 1992 and lack the day-to-day contact with some of the issues.

Great idea!! Keep doing these.

Thanks for the opportunity to participate.

1. Good Survey; 2. How will you respond to my feedback above?

Question #5 doesn't have right box. I am still in the reserves and working professionally. Small minority but still a separate category.

It is an excellent way to get immediate feedback--some questions and lists need some thinking time. Seems to be the cheapest way to get feedback.

This was a good survey in my opinion and those that took the time to put it together should be congratulated. I hope the results help.

superb idea; hats off to the guy(s) who made created it and then leveraged the technology to get it to us here in the hinterlands. this one is your benchmark so why not do it periodically and see what's changed? WELL DONE and thanks

many of these questions appeared to be one-sided. I either agreed entirely with the AOG or I had a list of complaints. not much room in the middle. I would be more interested in a ISSUE survey. A survey of about how I feel on specific polices not a policy statement.

Would be very helpful to have available the mission and purpose(s) stated as they now exist.

I would appreciate any results, or notification of the results, as soon as you can.

Thanks for creating this survey. Great idea.

I appreciate the opportunity to provide feedback.

very positive about the electronic process.; keep up the good work!

I appreciate this.

Save some of the questions on the comparison of methods of communicating and repeat them in a later survey exactly as they were here and see if your efforts are hitting the target.

This is great! Let's get the dialogue going. DON'T LET THIS BE A ONE TIME THING!; LET'S HAVE LOTS OF SURVEYS!; LET'S GET PAPER SURVEYS TO THE LESS COMPUTER ORIENTED GRADUATES!

Good idea. I like getting an email once in a while to let me know what is going on.

I think Magruder and his followers did a great job in getting me to respond because I am not a good survey taker. Hats off to them.

This survey seems extremely well done. It is also encouragement to me to consider a greater involvement in alumni affairs.

Great idea!!! I truly appreciate the opportunity to provide this feedback.

I would like to see a profile of graduates grouped into year-group blocks, i.e. 41-50, 51-60, etc. What is the trend of completing a military career, what are the prominent civilian industries grads in which grads work, how many are in public service, etc? ; ;

While I have participated in the survey, I am not involved enough in the AOG activities to make my tallies meaningful.

Question #5 did not include service option for those currently serving in the US Army Reserve or National Guard

Good format, easy to use and not unduly time consuming.

This is a great start in communication. I would also like to see a mailed survey which could be answered ANON.

Good Work!!! for those that developed the survey.

Please send the results of this survey through e-mail/internet.

Most of your subjective questions have two responses: yes, I agree and no, see list. There should be a third response: don't know or no opinion

Cleverly designed survey. Well done!!

Good idea. You need to do more of this in the future.

You are all doing a great job. I appreciate the opportunity to fill out this survey electronically. It is hard for me to be involved in AOG from Texas. If I were local, I might be more active.; ; I am still supporting the defense of the nation in the Texas National Guard. I currently command one of the finest MSE Signal Battalions in the US Army. I am slightly offended that question 5 did not include a category of military/civilian service which included me. There are many USMA graduates who have left the active service but continue to serve in the reserve component. Please remember us!

This survey was well prepared. Everyone at AOG, West Point.Org and all the classes are commended on the aggressive approach that USMA has taken in communicating over the NET. I hope my responses help.

Survey was very easy to use. I enjoy this medium for communication. Thanks for the reminders (nagging) to get me involved.

This is a good effort. Suggest inclusion of this or a similar survey in Assembly where more thought could be given to answers.

Great method, easy to use, sorry I took so long!

The survey was long overdue. I think it will be extremely beneficial to AOG leadership if the data is really analyzed. I look forward to seeing the results of the survey and feedback from Jack Hammock about how he intends to use the survey data. Thanks need to be delivered to Bill Taylor, Tom Mulyca and whoever else on the communication committee put their time into developing the survey.

Thanks for asking!

I am still on active duty and find little time to dedicate to AOG affaires. I do like the Assembly. If I have missed it, I would like for the AOG to get involved in civilian employment networking. I will retire in several years and that would be a great place to meet people.

Doing this by email was a good idea.

I'd like to see this survey and its results reported in Assembly. Non email grads should be given an opportunity to send in their comments by

a similar survey included in Assembly magazine.

was not able to access goals or services documents while completing this survey

None

Very Easy to Use!

Assembly must eliminate much of the boilerplate that has creeped into the magazine at the expense of class notes and pictures.; Create a separate pub—if there is a demand--to let grads publish articles, etc.

Good survey; but, how certain are you that an e-mail survey provides accurate representation of the population?? How or do you correct for this or will you simply acknowledge this as a statistical shortcoming in your findings. ??

Key to success is increased involvement by a larger number of graduates and USMA supporters.

Good survey. If I had time to really think about it, there would be additional comments in the given boxes.

The purpose of this survey is not stated anywhere on the survey.

Nil

As mentioned above, don't make us types with old equipment leave the main body of the survey to get reference info. I have a 386/33 with 16 Ram and

this is my fourth try to complete this survey.

Great survey both in electronic method and open ended feedback. I hope we get some kind of feedback from the results. It would be great to see what everyone is thinking.

Knowing that I might have some input this way encourages me to get better informed on some of these issues.

This survey was a great start. The follow-up results will be anxiously awaited.

What an excellently constructed and presented survey!! Very professional and reflective of the quality organization which is our AOG. Thanks for this survey. Hope to see it every year.

This is a good way to do it' easier than mailing, but provides for a quick answer where some thought may have identified some more pressing concerns or areas to be addressed. What is West-point. org? if not the AOG?

BEAT NAVY!!!!!!!!

Appreciate the opportunity to express an opinion

Let people know up front about how long they may need to fill out this survey. It will help them to prepare enough time to give it some thought without having to rush through the last half.

If nothing else, it allows me to submit something. I feel it is a good thing.

A great idea. ; ; More often on a variety of subjects Unfortunately, I do not have time to spend analyzing some of the questions and answers. Wish I could, but I was able only to give this too few minutes.

Check your spelling on congressional in question 29. Otherwise .. this is a good survey.

I suggest that we get detailed data on advanced education, accomplishments in civilian life and other data that reflects the accomplishments and

contributions of graduates.

appreciate the hard work that went into this survey

Very well done. I feel that this is the first time anyone has ever asked my opinion.

I am very glad to see such a proactive move by the AOG. Back in the late80's and early 90's when lay-off were bad and downsizing/rifting rampant, we felt alone around here. Now I feel as if the AOG is there to help if needed.

THE REST OF THIS FORM WAS SENT EARLIER.

Survey is well organized and thorough.

Good survey technique.

Survey is a step in the right direction.

This survey in itself has helped to raise my awareness of the AOG and what is going on.. Well timed.

Only hope that it provides the answers you need to continue to strengthen the future of the Corps.

the survey process was nicely done, good use of technology

Good use of the electronic medium. Please continue to make better use of available technology to maintain leadership.

I already have throughout the survey. If a came off as alarmist or disgruntled, I apologize. I am proud to be a West Pointer, especially since I work as a senior engineer at a Navy installation.; ; Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to address some concerns

good idea to do a survey; ; stay current with the use of the internet to disseminate info to grads

DO IN A LITTLE MORE TIMELY FASHION, RAN SHORT OF TIME WITH THE CHRISTMAS SEASON.; ; WHY NOT DO THE WHOLE THING ON E MAIL RATHER THAN THE INTERNET?

Excellent user-friendly survey. I am under the impression that this survey has been posted on this server for quite some time. I was not aware of the survey until I was notified through e-mail. Please continue to notify me via e-mail in the future. Thank you.

Good Survey. Use mail to reach those not on e-mail.; People on the internet tend to have some similar characteristics and we ; should try to have a statistically relevant sample; of graduates.

This took more than a few minutes. I think it is worthwhile, but I went into it thinking it would only take a few minutes and it's taking longer. Maybe it could have been less comprehensive or could have been split into two questionnaires to be done at separate time.

This is an excellent vehicle to provide feedback and well constructed! My hat's off to the architects.

The E-mail connection has renewed my contacts with classmates and AOG activities. A most worthy change.

Last spring I got to see the new Alumni building at West Point. It is very nice. Keep up the great work!

Your interactive software sucks.

Nice web page. Good work! Thanks for asking for my opinion.

I appreciate the opportunity to state my views in a convenient, and organized manner. I feel confident that the AOG will continue to ably represent the views and values of all USMA graduates.

Thanks for taking the time to develop, promote and distributing the survey

This was a good idea. Next time, don't do it over a holiday when everyone may not be home or have the time to work on it. Also, I only heard about

it a couple of days before the deadline. If it was announced in enough time, I sure missed the announcement -- and nearly the entire survey.

A very user friendly survey.

One of best implemented internet surveys I have participated in - good job!

I'd like more interaction with the AOG. Electronic surveys are an excellent tool. More info over E-mail would be excellent. Thanks.

I had an awful time finding this survey. Magruder's last message had the wrong info, i.e. the defiant was left out and the west-point.org search facility couldn't find the survey either.

My deep gratitude goes to those who prepared and then will analyze this survey. It is a step in the right direction

Great idea to send out the survey. Grateful too that AOG was open enough to ask some tough questions. Relieves a little of my growing distrust of AOG.

You need a third undecided response on many of your Yes/no questions. ;Also, I get most of my information from Assembly, which didn't seem to be one of the responses that I could check. Did I miss something? Could the choices be clarified better?

The web services have improved continually. Keep up the good work.

Am totally unfamiliar with the trustee process. Presumed it involved a small number of the in people (such as former first captain, class presidents, etc) and excluded the common guy like me.

Great job. One of the most effective web site systems I've seen yet, with no glitches.; ; Congrats on the advancements.

I appreciate the AOG's efforts to become a bigger; player in maintaining the link which connects us ; all to the Long Gray Line! Likewise, in the coming; following my recent transition, I hope to play a ; grater role in supporting WP! Cheers!

Suggest that whoever is running this survey try to constrain their representatives from ungentlemanly email behavior. Anyone who uses Windows 95 or any of that ilk is a putz1

Thanks for the opportunity to sound off. It's the first time anyone has bothered to ask for my opinion!

Electronic survey and polling is great....need to work on the technology so it will work correctly but it is a great start

Great idea. I probably would not have gone to the trouble to complete it were it not for Bob Magruder's repeated requests. Each class needs to have such an advocate.

This is a great way to provide input. I appreciate the opportunity & tried not to be to off-the-cuff with my responses.

I like the idea of using the internet to maintain communications with the academy. I am well aware that I am not current on the many issues of concern to the academy as well as it's achievements, etc. Please expand it's use with the limits of your capabilities. Thanks!

Thanks for the opportunity to provide input.;

My comments are from the hip and are best taken as impressions from the field rather than conclusions based on in-depth study and knowledge. It would seem the AOG, maybe through societies, could work on grassroots efforts w/Congress. USMA can't.

This is a good idea. Recommend it be done annually. My input will be better in subsequent versions. No one ever asked before.

Great medium for alerting AOG membership on USMA issues where contacting Congressional leaders with letters and information could produce beneficial

results

should offer a way of saving the survey (or printing it out) in order to allow grads to spend some time thinking about these issues.; using the www provides only a one shot effort

Item#5 should have an Army Reserve/ National Guard category. As a reservist and a current commander of a FSP Tier 1a unit , I am more subject to deployment than most active duty soldiers. Units which I have commanded have performed real world engineer construction and real estate missions in Korea and Panama 6 of the past 7 years (I have had almost 6 years of command time in as a company and detachment commander in the past 7 years). I think Reserve/NG Grads are not recognized by USMA/AOG for the role they perform. Similarly, many issues arise when Grads leave active duty after 5 years. For example, what is the AOG's role in helping these Grads, and does this detract from promoting a 20 year active duty career? One factor in this discussion which never comes up is that many of these Grads are continuing a 20+ military career in the Army Reserve/NG. Food for thought.

Your links to the goals and services are extremely slow; I did not wait for them..

The survey is a useful tool. I hope the respondents' comments will be taken seriously.

I would like to know how this information is going to be used, what prompted it to begin with and what the connection is between West-Point.org and USMA.

I think this is an excellent activity and should be considered more often to grads!

This is an excellent way to conduct a survey. Need to place emphasis on getting more graduates on the internet.

Thanks for the opportunity to participate

none

I do not know enough about or have contact with the AOG to place constructive comments. Part of this is due to the fact that I PCS on average every 16 months. Electronic contact is great.

I applaud this helpful start toward improved communication and dialogue. Thanks for all the hard work.

Additional response time is required.

Keep doing the survey once a year.

Would like to have feedback on this survey.

I LIKE THE PROACTIVE ATTITUDE THE ACADEMY IS TAKING. IT MAKES ME VERY

PROUD OF THE INSTITUTION THAT I CHERISH. CONTINUE TO DO GREAT THINGS.

This was a great idea. Please do it again.

Thanks for the opportunity. I've never been asked before. This survey was a good idea.

Thanks for producing this survey.

I thought the survey was good and the design was user-friendly. Good job!

I support the idea of letting graduates comment on the future of West Point as a provider of military (and civilian) leadership to our nation in the 21st century. There are those in high positions in government that would deny the need for USMA. I strongly disagree and would be happy to help in (almost any) way I can. Its future is not written in stone. We must be vigilant respond in positive words to those who think it history, that is, those who believe the War to End All Wars is over, and therefore there is not need for West Point.

I appreciate the time invested in the creation of this survey.

There is not enough questions that pertain to a graduate like me, who entered the USAF upon graduation, and has had little connection with WP or the Army for 39 years.

none

Great survey presentation.

Future surveys ought to incorporate database information that I mentioned earlier.

It's too long!

I am glad you are soliciting graduates' opinions and I apologize for how long it took me to respond.

Super idea!!!!!!!

I was not successful in linking to goals and services despite a couple of tries. It could have been operator error, though I hope not. In each case I was thrown off this site and had to start over. The linking mechanism appears not have been bulletproof. Meanwhile, I will further develop my netsurfing skills. Thank you.

I think I did that at #30 .....

List the AOG goals on this webpage so data is not lost when going from the goals back to this page.

It is difficult to devote sufficient time to completing this type of survey in the midst of a busy work day and schedule. My responses reflect this lack of time, but I do hope they will be useful.

AOG needs to better reflect America and not just a club. its processes need to be much more open, and its programs need to provide greater value to America than just an on-ramp for USMA and a support group for parents. AOG should really leverage its greatest asset, Members, to assist in leadership development for America, whether that is assisting Boy Scouts, Future Business Leaders of America, Jr. ROTC, or Boys Clubs of America. Our duty does not stop at West Point.

I would like to see this survey e-mailed to all active grads. I believe you would have a larger number of responses.

Great idea; the electronic media should clearly be extended by the AOG to increase its exposure to us and we to you.

I support the use of surveys to get input from AOG membership. e-mail is the preferred survey medium

It has been very user-friendly.

Peace on earth, good will to men.

This is a little long. Shorter would be better.

Keep up the good work!

I appreciate the request for feedback. ; This is a great form of communication between the; AOG and Graduates.

Thanks for starting what could be a good growth process for all of us in the AOG.

[COMMENTS ADDED TO COPY GIVEN TO AOG EXCOM]

Great job WP-ORG.....

BEAT navy

Was not able to access email version

Good survey. Thanks for asking.

Good use of technology.

None, thanks.

Question No. 5 is not complete in its choices. You should include the various forms of Army Reserve status as categories of military service. I am an Army Reservist serving in a TPU on reserve status.

Thanks for taking the time to ask for input.

In the area of congressional or other actions which may be of concern, an insert listing measures you know about would be helpful.

I like it very much.

As this is a first effort of its kind, my congratulations to all involved. To any who would criticize, I hope they offer better alternatives. I think you did a great job and electronic feedback is probably the right way to connect with the majority of grads.

This is the first time I have taken a survey on the internet. It is therefore not as easy for me to express myself as a more subjective survey. I do think this is a step in the right direction and I commend the AOG for it. Thanks.

Great idea but probably responses only a part of the iceberg

browser does not display list of goals and services AOG provides.

Survey was well designed and presented. Would be a good idea to do something like this on a regular basis.; Need to insure that those not on a computer system have an opportunity to give their input also.

This is a great start. Let's have future surveys address more specific issues i.e. use of AOG funds, supporting a PAC, etc.

The survey is a good idea, and this one is well done.

Could not pull up

Happy to fill it out; hope the survey is helpful.

I think this is a worthwhile endeavor if the issues raised are acted upon and not circle filed.

A good start -- its bound to get better with time.

See 30 above

Could be indepth studies by panels rather than general surveys. ; ; Thanks for all the hard work.

This was a good start and it should be continued

Good go keep it up periodically.

This kind of communication should be conducted annually, with feedback to all grads on the results of each survey.

The Assembly is a wonderful magazine, and my wife & I look forward to receiving it in the mail. These are hard times for the army, and the support given to graduates leaving the army is great, and I ask that you keep up the good work. On the flip side, the AOG needs to find some sort of way to encourage good officers to stay in the army to fix the problems that are arising. I don't think officers hear enough positive feedback on their work, and the feel they need to get out of the army because they are unhappy with the future outlook. I don't know how AOG can help this, but I wish more officers were encouraged to stay in - it would make current officers become happier in their jobs, and it would improve the Army in the long term.

good format

Excellent survey - comprehensive, yet understandable and easy to complete

I learned of this survey by word of mouth. Perhaps you could use the class mailing lists to push this info.

Bob Magruder when can you do an admissions specific survey for me??? This is great. Go Army!!! Beat Navy and Air Force.... Mike

As I pointed I couldn't get some of the survey to show on my screen. Please help the slow ones with some instructuions or use another method.

As I pointed I couldn't get some of the survey to show on my screen. Please help the slow ones with some instructuions or use another method.

With regard to #s 25 & 26 above, summaries would be sufficient.

Good job. A first for me.

Ques. 3: I am assuming that a former cadet is one who has graduated with his or her class, not one who entered and resigned (vol or invol). I graduated with my class.; Ques. 4: I have subscribed in the past, but do not have a current subscription (not one of the options).; Ques 5: You have forgotten the citizen soldier, who sacrifices much time for little pay, juggling two separate and demanding careers. I am currently the commander of an active TPU unit in the Army Reserves.

E-mail is great!!! This must be the way to connect with officers like me...

I was unable to read the lists for goals and services. Consequently, I was unable to answer the related questions.

Thanks for the opportunity. ; ; Hey, how about give the class with the most survey responses a couple of free issues of Assembly??!!

This is the first survey, or I should say, the first time in my recollection that AOG has asked my opinion on anything. Previously my contacts with AOG were limited to the Assembly, my annual subscription renewal, ads for cruises and requests for money. As a 'way-outside-the-beltway' Air Force type -oops, there goes my survey- the email with classmates and AOG Homepage, Supe's outreach, etc. has made me feel a little more like a grad again... Sorry this is a few days late. Couldn't be helped. Hope you can use it anyway.

You have to figure out a way to get to as many grads as possible, not just to those with acces to the web.; A lot of the questions are leading questions. The ones about goals and services are cases in point. Grads should know what the goals and services are. If they have to get a refresher course chances are they will take the easy answer and say they are satisfied.

Thanks for doing this survey!

This is a good move; it should be repeated periodically.

Good survey. Thanks for the chance

1. Superior; overall grade of A+. Next time, ask us that question BEFORE you implement the survey.; 2. Next time, include items specifically addressed to a) honor and b) gender.

Consider more interaction with the other service academies in terms of sharing ideas, programs, etc. and unifying efforts to focus more politcal clout in congress.

Great Job!! I am happy to see that we as an organization with our roots in the US Army are leaping ahead in pursuing modern communications methods. I guess that it is easier for the AOG to migrate to 90's technology than it is for the ARMY!

The survey should solicit input on ways that graduates are impacting their communities, not only the biggest stars, but also those in supporting roles as well.

I found out about this survey via a class email message. If it had already been communicated via other media, I appologize. Obviously, the more responses you receive back, the more effective efforts of the West Point Society & AOG can be in serving the membership and furthering the cause.

This survey is a good idea. It should be done periodically. One item, if you were to put an estimate of how long it should take to complete it at the beginning, that would be a help.

Nice start.

This was a great idea, and I would hope that it reaches more than Folks.

You need more I am not aware of the process choices.

I WAS ASTONISHED WHEN I READ THE GOALS, AND FELT COMPELLED TO MAKE MY POINT CONCERNING HONESTY, TRUTHFULNESS, HONOR AND MORALITY.; ; IF WE CANNOT MAKE IT CLEAR TO YOUNG CADETS WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN LIFE, WHEN DO WE MAKE IT CLEAR?

Since I don't have Email some of these questions are not applicable.

Keep up the good work and alert more graduates and non-graduates about deteriorating conditions of the politically correct academy (ies)

Thanks for doing what you are doing back there and thanks for giving us this opportunity to make our views known. I'm flattered that you would think I might have someThanksthing constructive of offer. Actually, I'm just happy and lucky to have had the honor of the West Point experience.

Thank you for all your efforts!

I felt this survey was very impressive and tough questions were addressed. I just hope some action will follow with the feedback.

Need a review of the purposes of joining a conference and what results establish the decision as being a good one---if it is.

do this more often

Questions 11,12,and 13 should be worded differently, as prefer and currently using are different.

Address the concerns raised in my responses to Items 28 & 29 in a furture survey.

It would be nice to have an annual AOG meeting in the Washington DC area.

GREAT IDEA !!!

I believe the AOG staff is truly dedicated to the cadet and the graduate. That is key and whatever it takes to maintain the high quality of the staff should be done.

Nice work! This technique would be a good way to evaluate how chapters are doing and how the AOG could help members get what they want from the chapters -- or help them define what they want.

Who gets this survey?, and is anything done with the results?

Nice job. Keep up the good work. N.B.

I have had difficulty in transmitting this survey and asked for support from Bob Magruder to get my data into the system. I thank him for his patience. WRR

I received the feeling you want us to tell you if certain things are broke or aren't working within the AOG, or even within DA, the Defense Dept, and the Academy. I receive the Assembly 4 times a year and try to read that to see what is going on, but I would imagine if there are stuggles within the Army, the Academy, and/or congress it wouldn't all be aired in the Assembly. We only get juicy tidbits in the paper if there is a scandal, or perhaps if the Washington Post/NY Times, etc. writes something about the Academy. I really feel out of the loop. I left the Army in 1983 after serving 24 years on AD. I guess I almost felt inadequate to respond to alot of your questions.; I do applaud your efforts. Perhaps this is a start. Perhaps we who are a long way away from the academy in years and distance, should try to close that gap with the help of AOG.; ; Thanks for your efforts.

I'm still bothered by the Hallum situation. I don't think, as the Supe has said, that he was simply the wrong man for the job. I think it is an example of the age-old tension at WP between the academics and the military. This tension is a necessary and beneficial aspect of WP, but we shouldn't dismiss this incident as an isolated incident of one man in the wrong job. When leadership instruction becomes sociology instead of combat oriented, WP has failed the Army. I think a panel headed, not by those beholding to WP, but by those whose constituency is the Army, should look at the whole issue of how we are preparing leaders for the Army. As a former Director of the Center for Army Leadership (89-91), I think that my opinion that there is some fire as well as smoke here, has merit. Let me suggest that two great Army leaders (who are not grads) GEN (Ret) Cavazos and LTG (Ret) Grange, head the panel. The whole Army listens when they talk about leadership.

This has been one heck of a survey; can never say I didn't have a chance to sound-off!!; ; My hat is off to the authors......

Very easy survey to navigate. Congratulations.

Thanks for offering the survey. That alone is a good step toward improving AOG - grad relations.

As issues arise, survey the graduates...monthly or by the quarter.

Good job.

A good survey. There should be follow up surveys which focus on fewer issues at a time so that one doesn't have to cover the waterfront each time.
