For those of you who haven't been
following Army sports, our baseball team won the Patriot League
Championship and a trip to the NCAAs, where they were eliminated in two
games. The starting lineup included 4 plebes, who will form the
nucleus of the Army baseball team for the next three years. Third
basemen, Harold Earls was named rookie athelet of the year in the
Patriot League and was recently named a freshman All American as
well.

Joining him in the Army starting lineup were freshmen Alex Jensen at
SS, Daniel Cortes in LF, and Mark McCants the designated hitter.
Another freshman, Dakari Cooke was brought in as a pinch hitter against
Virginia, and Andrew Flaherty saw action as a relief pitcher.
Dave Hurley would be on my case if I didn't mention that
his mentee from '15, Lisa Junta made it to the semi-finals in the NCAA
10,000 meters competition, one of three members of the Army track team
to be invited to the NCAAs.
Finally, I'd be remiss in not mentioning the
exploits of Morgan Lashley, star pitcher in women's baseball, who was
named Rookie of the Year and Pitcher of the Year in the Patriot
League.

Lisa broke the academy record for wins with 33 and strikeouts with 237
and was named Most Valuable Player on the softball team.
At some point, I'll be compiling a more
comprehensive list of outstanding athletes from our affiliation class,
but these men and women merit special recognition.
