An on-line place for keeping notes

I need a place to keep notes, links to good articles, to hints and tips, and other various stuff that I come across and don’t want to forget. Often I know that I have information about a specific topic that I spent the time to look up and note somewhere. The problem is that I forget where I put things. Maybe it is in my on-line email at freesurf, buried in a folder somewhere, maybe it is in my Lotus Notes client on my thinkpad (that doesn’t narrow it down much because I have lots of databases there), maybe it is a file on a hard disk – which hard disk, which sub-directory, etc.

An example is a plethora of java programming hints and tips that come from many different sources and that over time I’ve squirrelled away in various places on different PC’s, on different network servers etc. When I’m programming I sometimes get stuck and need to get back to the info I stored somewhere. If I put a reference to the info in this blog I will be able to access it from any PC just about anytime. That assumes that I have an internet connection. Most of the time I do and with WiFi that will be more and more the case in the years to come.

Now, if I fail to immediately remember where I put something, I usually do a search on Google. That usually comes up with the answer but it takes valuable time.

As an experiment at first, I’m going to start noting stuff here on this blog and hope that the internal search engine is robust enough to bring up the stored notes that I need.
