Crankshaft switched at the balance shop!

Still waiting for bearings. If I forgot to mention, my crankshaft was mistakenly switched at the balance shop. I got the one with standard main journals instead of the 0.010 undersized one. That made the assembly inpossible until I got correct bearings or the correct crank. So, I’m waiting on the bearings. It set back assembly by about a month. Not a big deal, since I have so much else to do. Still haven’t gotten the special clutch disc that I ordered, a Vega disc. Don’t know why it takes so long. It’s just a standard Vega clutch disc. It works well in the Corvair because it has little shock absorbing springs, unlike the solid Corvair disc. I moved the car into my Garage this week. Found that the parking brake was stuck on one side, making the move from my back yard to the garage difficult. At least now I can work on the interior and suspension after dark and in bad weather. Crawling under it will be much better. Also dropping the gas tank and cleaning it out will be a snap. I’ve got a great idea for the radio – satelite radio with a portable minidisc to plug in. The satelite radio is very cheap now, about $150 for the radio plus $10/month for service. There are bout 100 commercial free channels available anywhere in the US all the time. Don’t you hate all those commercials? And the removable reciever unit also can be plugged into a home stereo system. A portable minidisc player/recorder is a tiny thing about the size of a pack of cigarettes that uses those little Sony magnetic discs. The discs now hold about 5 hours of music in regular digital format. The price of the minidisc unit is down to a reasonable $120 now, less than the cost of a compact disc changer. Plus it is portable. This compares pretty well with the ipod which holds a lot of music, but could also be a theft target and what if it crashes with all your songs? This setup, with some reasonable speakers would be very small and light for the Corvair, and easy to hide.
