Our special Guest Speaker is Brian Kruger, Producer of “Where the Brave Dare to Tread,” a documentary on Carl Robert Arvin.  From Ypsilanti, Carl Arvin celebrates the 60th anniversary of his graduation from West Point this year.  Arvin Gym at West Point was named after him.

Carey Potter | President

 

  • Proud mom to Cadet Jacob “Jake” Potter (2027)
  • 2023 Michigan All Academy Ball – Communications/Marketing lead
  • Communications Manager / Steelcase, Inc. 
  • Part of Steelcase Salutes which supports veteran employee initiatives
  • Lives in Grand Rapids

Carey has served as President of the club for the past year and the club has thrived under her leadership.  She is thankful for the WPPCMI support and mentorship she received as she embarked on her journey as a West Point parent.  As President of the West Point Parents Club of Michigan, Carey is determined to uphold the club’s tradition of excellence in programming and initiatives that support cadets and their families throughout their West Point journey. Her goal extends beyond the West Point community, aiming to support families across the U.S. Army and Armed Forces. 

Tom Merten | Vice President

 

  • Proud husband to Rosemarie; sons Jack (CMU 2024), Peter (USMA 2025)
  • Insurance Professional; Relationship Management
  • Active Member as Fundraising Chair and All Academy Ball subcommittee
  • 25 year resident of Royal Oak

Tom is currently serving as Vice President of the club and looking forward to continuing his leadership in the coming year.  He is always looking for someone to chat about the U.S. space program.  Tom enjoys spending time with family and good friends, especially at the Army-Navy Football Weekend. 

Lucy Simmerer | Recording Secretary

 

  • Proud wife to Steve (USMA 1981), and mother of seven, including Steven (2026)
  • Recording Secretary since 2023

Currently serving as Recording Secretary, Lucy has worked on, supported, and/or attended most of the WPPCMI events for the past three years.  Lucy served on the board of their soccer organization, which has helped her to be a better Recording Secretary and member of the board for the past two years.   Lucy lived on post at West Point when her husband taught there and will always try to work for our cadets and families to the best of her ability. 

Kristy Rolands | Corresponding Secretary

 

  • Proud wife to Jeff and mom to Cadet Quinn (2028), Reece (10th grade) and Elliot (7th grade)
  • Staff Accountant with Risk Strategies, headquartered in Boston, MA
  • Resides in Berkley, MI

Kristy has enjoyed her short time with the West Point Parents Club of Michigan and looks forward to serving in a leadership role.  While Quinn is away at West Point, the younger siblings keep Kristy and her husband Jeff busy with their many activities.  Every day she learns something new about West Point and Academy life and hopes to be a valuable resource to new and existing club members. 

 

Renee Hooker | Treasurer

 

  • Proud wife of Greg and mother to two sons, Cadet Nathan Hooker (2027) and Joshua. 
  • Business Analyst for Xerox Corporation
  • Resides in South Lyon

Renee is an active participant of many WPPCMI events, including Family Weekend, Army Navy football weekend, fundraisers, Holiday Care Packages, All Academy Ball and send off picnics.  She has most recently served as a mentor to new families and has championed the Boodle Box distribution for new cadets at Family Weekend for the past two years. Renee enjoys spending time with her family and cherishes the new friendships she has made while at the WPPCMI.
