(2004 Cont.)
Micah Green: Micah has been thrilled to have his brother join him at USMA this year. They have some very funny stories of people thinking Micah was Matt and Matt was Micah. The advantage, of course, was for Matt to be treated as an upper classmen when they thought he was Micah. I have mentioned before that Micah is the head usher at the cadet chapel and of course, enlisted his brother as his assistant. So, on Mother's Day we met General Brooks and his wife, who attend chapel every week and they commented on M&M's commitment to do the job of ushering. It was enlightening to hear of how he and his brother, General Vince Brooks, were also confused for each other in their time at West Point. They were only a year apart at USMA. Micah has had a busy semester. His mechanical engineering classes have been difficult and he has been extremely busy being the honor representative from his company. He is not going to get much of a break this summer though since he will have to stay at USMA another week after graduation to finish up honor cases. Then he will go to the Air Force Academy to participate in their survival training. Immediately afterwards he will go to Alabama for AAID at the Redstone Arsenal. Finally, he will be home for one week in August. Then we are excited about going to West Point for ring weekend. We could never imagine that the last three years could have passed so quickly. We are grateful that West Point will be part of our lives for three more years. There never seems to be enough time to enjoy the beauty of the place and we continued to be awed by the mission of the Academy. We still cry at every parade and are overwhelmed by the thought that our boys are a part of something so important to our nation and the world. What an honor for them and what an opportunity for us to try to be supportive parents.
CLASS OF 2005 “KEEPING FREEDOM ALIVE”
Tye Reedy: Tye’s Yuk year has gone by quickly and thus far successfully! Academically he tells us he has everything squared away and is ready to tackle his TEEs. Physically he has done well, ending the wrestling season earning a 5th place finish in his final tournament of the season. He maxed out the APFT for the second time this year, improving upon his previous score in all three areas of the APFT. Militarily he is still waiting to have his summer schedule finalized. Tye will serve as a squad leader for the first half of “Beast,” which he tells us “is carved in stone.” However, the rest of his summer assignment is still up in the air. He will either attend Air Assault school or participate in a month’s long P.I.A.D. at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado where he will undergo extensive evaluations and training for wrestling. Tye tells us he’ll be happy whichever way it turns out.

Nathan Brown: Nathan continues to enjoy his West Point experience, although he could do without another cold, snowy winter like they had this year. At least the contrast made the cruise we went on over Spring Break that much more enjoyable. We took the Carnival Fantasy cruise to the Bahamas out of Port Canaveral. We went on the short 4-night cruise so that Nathan would have some time left over in Tampa to spend with his girlfriend. He was very happy to spend a week wearing shorts in 80-degree weather.
Nathan continued to do well in school academically this semester though the post Spring Break testing seemed unusually difficult. At least he did have some enjoyable weekends without Saturday morning tests. Nate made it to the city a few times with his friends and as a special treat, his girlfriend traveled up to West Point for Easter weekend.
Tania Miami: (05) Is at Air Assault in Ft. Campbell from June 6-24, then to Buckner, she will be a Platoon Sgt. In 1st Co. She is looking forward to being a Cow. Her group did well at Sandhurst, and is busy now as everyone else with exams.
Greg Van Bemden: C3- Greg has been doing well this semester he even made some time to go golfing this term. We are amazed at how quickly the first two years have flown by; even Greg admits his surprise at already being through the first two years. After multiple changes to his summer assignments he has gone from his third choice of assignments up to his first choices. So he will be going to Airborne 3 at Fort Benning, then DCLT 10 at Fort Benning as well, before a quick stop home for the weekend then returning to West Point. We are looking forward to Greg being home for the week after graduation and we will go up to watch him jump at Airborne 4th of July week. It will be nice to be at Benning with our club members, cheering on all of our cadets.
