“PRIDE
IN ALL WE DO”
Misty
Cantwell: Misty is counting the days (probably the hours) until
Jeff returns, and then counting the days until graduation. She is
busy writing those final papers and figuring out the moving process.
We went up to see her a few weeks ago and really enjoyed visiting with
her, enjoyed a non-crowded parade and finalizing wedding plans. Boy,
time has gone by so very fast. She will have 60 days’ leave, then
on to Ft. Leonard Wood and eventually Ft. Stewart, Ga.
Ned
Hull: Ned is totally consumed with plans for summer leave and
flight school—exams and graduation are little bumps in the road at this
point. That is not to say that he isn’t busy with all the
graduation prep activities including uniforms, invitations and
announcements, briefings on finance and transportation, role in Misty’s
wedding, plans for moving, and a myriad of other details. His
parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends will be attending the
festivities during graduation week. Plans for that excursion are
falling into place nicely with the only trepidation’s being the impact
of the extra security measures. Ned is scheduled to report to Ft.
Rucker on 2 August and begin Officer’s Basic on 16 September.
Flight training should start by early December.
Abraham
Skellinger: Abraham is looking forward to graduation and all the
relatives and friends (25 strong) coming to share the day. After
graduation, he is hoping to spend some time in various parts of the
country visiting family and friends before reporting to Fort Benning.
He has been assigned a three-year stay in Italy after Officer training
school so we are starting to save money for a visit. We would like
to take this time to thank everyone in the parent’s club for all the
support, fun, ears to talk to, and words of wisdom that helped us through
these four exciting/ nerve-wracking years.
Robert Decker: Rob has had four busy years at West Point, and is now counting the days until graduation. Spring break was spent here at the Decker home with six cadets. They attended the West Point baseball game at USF, took advantage of the free admission to Bush Gardens, and went to a spring training game in St. Petersburg. The beach, boat, water skiing and delightful weather were a big hit. Sandhurst training has occupied much of Rob’s time at West Point this term. Mom and Dad were able to attend the competition and were amazed at the skills, endurance, and teamwork required for this event. Rob branched Infantry, and selected
Ft. Lewis, WA, for his post. We
expect it will be about a year before he reaches Ft. Lewis, as he
David
Nelson: is looking forward to graduation. He will be getting
married 3 days after graduation and will have until August 1st for Officer
Basic, Bradley school and Ranger School. After finishing those
schools he is assigned to Fort Carson, Colorado. He was team leader
for F3 Sandhurst team and they won top in Regiment, 3rd at West Point and
6th overall out of 46 teams. He was pleased at this good standing in
the competition. The four years did seem to go fast and he did well.
As parents we are proud of him.

“PROTECTOR
OF THE FREE”
Kevin
Manley: We were able to enjoy our cadet for all of about 40 hours here
a couple of weeks ago, when he flew in to be in his step-brother’s
wedding. The following weekend Kevin enjoyed participating in the
Sandhurst Competition, even though his team didn’t fare all that well.
Kevin is looking forward to a very busy last summer at West Point.
He will be attending the Sapper Leader Course at Ft Leonard Wood, Mo.
right after the school year ends, and then he will be a Platoon Leader at
Camp Buckner later in the summer. Between the two assignments he
will only have four days off, much to the chagrin of his parents and
girlfriend. Kevin
has also accepted the reins as the 3rd Regiment’s Honor Representative.
He is proud to accept this responsibility, but sad that with it, he will
have to leave his company for all of his Firstie year.
