Notes for Guerrilla Units:
1. GHQ SWPA ("General Headquarters, Southwest Pacific Area" - Gen. MacArthur's headquarters in Australia) designated ten "Military Districts" for command and control of guerrilla
organizations within the Philippine Islands. The first five districts were on Luzon and nearby small islands. A variety of circumstances (mainly stronger Japanese presence and lack of
radio conact) prevented consolidation of guerrilla units in those districts. See Chapter X, Page 303, "Reports of General MacArthur" -- link is shown at source code "MX".
2. The 10th Military District was also given responsibility for intelligence operations on Leyte and Samar Islands. To see the organizational structure of the 10th Military District

3, About 05/10/42, Ens.Iliff D. Richardson (later Major, US Army) sailed from Tacloban, Leyte (with permission of Col. Cornell) on a
banca named "Leyte Luck" headed for Australia with ten Americans on board. On 05/18/42 when they were off the east coast of
Mindanao, a very strong tropical storm overturned "Leyte Luck". Richardson and several others swam many hours to get to Mindanao.
Natives cared for them and went out to get those that stayed on the banca. All eleven men were placed in a school teacher's home and
given care. All recovered except Sgt. James P. Milliken who died on 06/03/42 and was buried in a nearby barrio. The others chose to
remain on Mindanao, so Richardson returned to Leyte alone in January 1943.

Note for Source Code "AGOM" concerning "History of the Mindanao Guerrillas":
This file is in PDF format as received from the American Guerrillas of Mindanao (courtesy of Virginia Hansen Holmes). The table of contents shows that Chapter XI, Paragraph C
is a list of "187 Americans in Mindanao". For unknown reasons, the list stops at #181, Wilson, Sam J. The remaining six Americans are:
Winget, George W. | ||||||||
Wohlfeld, Mark M. | ||||||||
Wood, John F. Jr. | ||||||||
Woodruff, Halbert E. | ||||||||
Worcester, Frederick L.
