CPT Carpenter was a 31 year old native of Brooklyn, NY. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah. He died after his MH-60M Blackhawk helicopter he was in sustained a “hard landing during routine military flight training,” according to a statement released Friday by the Fort Campbell, Ky.-based 160th SOAR headquarters. The U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center is conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident
Two others were injured in the incident and were treated at a local hospital. They are expected to survive.
CPT Carpenter was a Platoon Leader in November 2006 – October 2007 (1 year) Tikrit, Iraq. He was a ssigned as Component Repair Platoon leader, then a Flight Platoon leader in charge of 5 UH60 Black Hawks and 30 personnel in an Air Assault battalion. He attended the Captain's Career Course from 2011-2012
He is survived by his parents and brother.
