"NEWSPAPER CLIPPING: PHILIP HOFFMAN. Philip Hoffman, Father of one of the editors of the Post, died at his residence in Barbour County, West Virginia at 6 o'clock on Thursday evening, January 9th, age 82 years, 1 month & 9 days. He was for many years a resident of Monongalia County and lived in what is now Clinton District, the place of his nativity. he was the oldest son of John & Sarah Hoffman, who emigrated from Berks County, Pa. about the year 1795 or 1796, and settled on the "Old Hoffman Farm" near Smithtown. In 1845 or 46 he moved to Preston County where he lived until about 5 years since, when he went to Barbour County. He was married in 1820 to Aletha Summers, daughter of Rev. Alexander Summers, of this county, and raised to their majority 10 children, 8 of whom are still living. He leaves 8 children, 56 grandchildren, about 86 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, and many friends to mourn his loss, but our loss is his gain, & we hope his troubles are over.
