Matt's Disc Golf Log

My personal bests since January 25th 2000

I generally run from shot to shot when I play. This doesn't
usually present a problem because I play when no one else is on
the course. I do a round in about 35 minutes and it's a good workout.
I don't, however, recommend this as a way to get a great score. It's
like biathalon, tough to control your breathing on the precision shots,
especially putts. If any of you hardy individuals wants to meet me,
either early in the morning or during lunch and try a running round with me,
drop me an email. It's always more
fun to throw with a partner.

Personal Bests
Redstone - 53 (Finally! a round under par after hundreds at Redstone!)
UAH - 52 (New Configuration, new PB by 5 strokes!)
Brahan Springs - 47
Mastin Lake - 52
Bluemont Park, Arlington, VA - 47
Admiral Farragut Park, Knoxville, TN - 52
Veterans Park, Florence - 52

MASTIN LAKE March 16th

Date: 16 March
Course: Mastin Lake
Mode: walking round
Weather: 60 degrees and an ocassional breeze
Score: 52
Blow ups: 3 Bogies
Deuces: 5 Birdies
Comments: This was an up and down round, fortunately more up than down. I didn't completely
blow up on any hole and I threw some good drives for deuce opportunities. Bill Bee and I threw
a -8 at Mastin Lake on April Fools day doubles, then won a playoff with Christian and Beans.
Considering we were both on the cut line for Pro-Am we felt pretty good about our performance.

BRAHAN SPRINGS February 16th

Date: 16 February
Course: Brahan Springs
Mode: leisurly round
Weather: 60 degrees and an ocassional breeze
Score: 47
Blow ups: None
Deuces: #4, #8, #11, #12, #14, #15, #18
Comments: This was a new personal best by 3 strokes. I drove well and putted consistently.
I also had some luck with at least one good tree. I managed to mostly stay out of trouble and
I got up and down when I did throw a bad drive or two. This also equaled by best total for
18 holes of disc golf. The rare deuce on 14 was a real bonus. For once I found a fairway to
throw down and ended up just 20' short of the basket.

REDSTONE February 4th 2001

Date: 9 February
Course: Redstone
Mode: Running
Weather: 50 degrees
Score: 53
Blow ups: None, Bogies on #8, #11, and #18
Deuces: #3, #4, #9, #16
Comments: Four deuces and three bogies to finally get a round under par at Redstone. The
course was in a fairly easy configuration with most in their short positions. I nearly
managed to double bogie 18 to drop to par.

Florence December 10th 2000

Date: 10 December
Course: Florence, Veteran's Park
Mode: Alabama State Tournament
Weather: 55 degrees
Score: 52
Blow ups: Bogie on 14
Deuces: #2, #6, and temporary hole F.
Comments: This was my first round at the tournament and combined with a 57 in the second round
gave me a five stroke victory in the men's AM division. I'll move up to advanced am next time
so I won't be accused of sand-bagging. I had a good 1st round only because I was able to stay
out of trouble. The second round I got a lot more wood a lot earlier so I was struggling just
to get pars.

BLUEMONT PARK May 1ST 2000

Date: 1 May
Course: Bluemont Park in Arlington, VA
Mode: Walking
Weather: 70 degrees and breezey
Score: 52
Blow ups: none
Deuces: several
Comments: This course is a nine holer with multiple pin and tee placements. I threw
this round from first the short (front nine) then the medium(back nine) tees. The
pins were in there medium positions (orange). My first under par for 18.

Date: 1 May
Course: Bluemont Park in Arlington, VA
Mode: Walking
Weather: 70 degrees and breezey
Score: 47
Blow ups: none
Deuces: several
Aces: #8
Comments: I threw this round from all the short tees for my best score ever. The pins
were in there medium positions (orange) . To be fair, the course is fairly easy from
the short tees. This included my first ace ever on #8, a tree lined right curver of
222 feet. I followed that up by missing the basket on #9 (250 feet) by about 3 feet
with a gallery looking on due to all the yelling I did following the ace. All in all
it was a memorable day.

ADMIRAL FARRAGUT PARK July 7TH 2000

Date: 7 July
Course: Admiral Farragut Park, Knoxville, TN
Mode: Running
Weather: 85 degrees and an ocassional breeze
Score: 52 (Two rounds of 26 for nine holes)
Blow ups: Double Bogeys on #4 and #5
Deuces: #2, #3, #4, #5, #7, #8
Comments: This was my first time on this fairly short 9 hole course. It is in a very
nice park overlooking the Tennessee River. Most of the holes are tight wooded shorties
but the three finishing holes are somewhat longer and more open. #8 and #9 are the only ones
that I can't drive the basket on, however, on my first trip around I sank a long uphill
putt on #8 to pull out a deuce anyway. I really hacked my way to some ugly fives on 4 and
5. Thankfully it was in separate rounds. I had to climb a big cedar to get my disc back
after my drive on #4. It was a lot of fun. If you are headed up Knoxville way, give it a
try.

UAH September 20th

Date: 20 September
Course: UAH
Mode: Running
Weather: 75 degrees, and o light breeze
Score: 52(My Personal Best by 5 Strokes!)
Blow ups: None
Deuces: #1, #8, #10, #14,
Comments: Needless to say I was in the zone this day. I had been playing without a ROC for
two weeks and I didn't realize how much I missed my upshot disc until I finally got another
one. Two things really helped me on this round. I parked all my upshots from less than 200
feet and I hit 2 long putts. On #10 I threw a good drive but I still had 70-80 feet left. I
was just trying to keep it close and give it a chance and it nailed center chain. On #8 I was
about 35 feet short but I stalled it in. I parked my drive just behind #14 and I rolled one
within 15 feet on #1. My two bogies were #11 and #16, the longest on the course, and I rimmed
35-40 foot putts on both of those for par. The rest was just good conditions and steady golf
getting up and down when I needed to.
