This day's route was our longest of the entire trek. We had a hefty climb up, over, and back down the ridge line to get to Turkey Creek Canyon. Then there was a long walk down the canyon to the highway. After crossing the highway, we had a good climb ahead of us again. A small failure to pay attention when we came to a trail crossing near Vaca Camp caused us to take a small 300 yard detour. Since many of us ran out of water after crossing the highway, we were anxious to get to camp, relax, and re-hydrate ourselves - not to mention shoot some clay pigeons!
