NORMAN D. KERN

McCOMB -- Funeral services for Norman Dale Kern, 69, of McComb, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hartley Funeral Home, McComb, the Rev. Howard Mayne officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler, where military rites will be conducted by McComb's VFW and American Legion posts.

Visitation will be held from 1-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Kern died at 11:37 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000 at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.

He was born July 4, 1930 in Deshler to Charles and Agnes (Schuster) Kern Jr. His mother survives. He married Marion "Mitzi" Holder on Sept. 15, 1951 in Fremont and she survives.

Also surviving are a son, Steven A. of Medina; five daughters, Kathleen K. Yoakam, Toledo; Mrs. John (June C.) Greiman, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Jeffry (Lisa L.) Berringer, Marion; Mrs. Tim (Beth Anne) Beard, Custar; Mrs. Steve (Kelly S.) Spieth, Waterville; 16 grandchildren; a brother, Edwin C. of Portage; and a sister, Mrs. Avery (Mary Lou) Evinger, Hoytville.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Mr. Kern worked at Sears in Findlay for 24 years, from 1964-87. He was a farmer in Pleasant Township since 1953.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951-53. He was a 1948 graduate of Jackson Township High School in Hoytville and obtained an associates degree in 1950 from Tiffin University, where he was a member of the Sigma Omega Sigma fraternity.

Mr. Kern was a member and secretary of McComb Lions Club. He was a member of North Baltimore F&AM Lodge 561; Zenobia Temple, Toledo; and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Toledo. He was a member of Findlay Chapter RAM; Findlay Council R&SM; and Findlay Commandary 49; He was a member of Findlay Shrine Club and past patron of Findlay Chapter 23 OES. He was awarded the Hancock County Master Gardener from the OSU extension office.
