Background

This section introduces the concept of a probability distribution defined by a function called the probability distribution function.  In this case we are going to deal with the general case of an arbitrary distribution, including examining the properties of the function to ensure that it is a valid probability distribution function.

In this, as we will in other distribution discussions, we are re-using many of the same concepts, symbols, and formulas from distribution to distribution.  By placing discussion of each distribution in its own Mathematica context, we limit the interactions between different uses of the same symbol.
