What would you like to see changed?
What would you like to see changed? ...
I would like to be able to ask a question without fear of being chastised or told "there's a FAQ on that."
What would you like to see changed? ...
not so harsh policemanship
What would you like to see changed? ...
Don't be so critical of peoples responses. And once, I sent Dolf an item to review and ask if he thought it should be posted. He posted it and at the bottom of the posting put that I had broken the rules and should "unsubscribe" from the net!!! All my friends got a big laugh from that!
What would you like to see changed? ...
More people paying their share
What would you like to see changed? ...
textbook attitudes of a few in the know to alot who are not...(this is a "minority" problem)
What would you like to see changed? ...
The strictness of what can be posted.
No one asked Dolf the spend mega $'s to span out to have all these different nets...so why should the parents have to pay for it? I never take the time to go out looking for the other nets anyway...it's a waste.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Well, why have two?
What would you like to see changed? ...
being able to communicate freely with other parents with concerns in ways to assist our cadets benefitial to all of us. Not to be afraid to ask a question. Not to be afraid of humiliation, or reprimend for asking a silly question. Not to worry about tecno-litter. Much more User friendly.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I would like to see it be a little less restrictive regarding what's allowable between parents. ie: parents posting a need for their cadet to get a ride from the airport, etc. I understand that the parent-forum will fill that gap. I think that's great.
What would you like to see changed? ...
WPP-Net is fine as-is. Particularly now that those that want to chat can go to Parent-Forum.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Less criticism and more appreciation/tolerance
What would you like to see changed? ...
A bit less restrictive. Most of the discussion had stopped for fear of being chastised.
What would you like to see changed? ...
nothing now that the parent-forum is opened
What would you like to see changed? ...
More freedom to express concerns and questions. As a plebe parent, this is all new ground and maybe sometimes my questions may be " dumb and reptitious", but they are my concerns. I would like to be able to voice those concerns without the fear of being reprimanded.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I still do not know enough and am honestly confused about which group(s) other than plebe and the general parent group I should join. I enjoy reading all at this time.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Nothing. The various nets do a wonderful job. I especially appreciate the long hours and hard work by Dolf and the other moderators in providing this service. Thanks to all of you.
What would you like to see changed? ...
More pictures!
What would you like to see changed? ...
Let's give the parent forum a chance and see what happens! We might find out why the rules were established. :>)
What would you like to see changed? ...
Fewer "official announcements", more first hand reports
What would you like to see changed? ...
I assume you mean, how would I like to see the parents-forum evolve? I like Dian's rules to start with. Let's just see what happens. Most of these listservers take a course of their own based upon who participates.
What would you like to see changed? ...
We have been satisfied with WPP. We appreciate Dolf's efforts. We are not much interested in the present controversy.
What would you like to see changed? ...
More personal information versus the bi-weekly sport schedule, etc. I can always find that information, but necessarily the word on when classes are officially done, when the cadets can leave for holidays, etc.
What would you like to see changed? ...
You just made it - by adding a parents forum. If it helps ANYone, it is worth it!
What would you like to see changed? ...
I want an open forum back, where we can decide what to read or not read. I don't want to go to a listserver for every question asked. Whatever happened to FAQ's?! I feel that any of us who have been on WPP for the last4 years or more, have seen too many changes recently that have changed the whole personality of the listserver. Has the moderator not noticed that fewer and fewer people
are posting to the net because of the rigid rules and regulations. None of us care to be reprimanded like a child for innocent questions or ideas. For all these reasons, I welcome a new forum to serve parents old and new. We have been on WPP since it"s beginning and have enjoyed it until the last few months.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I am glad we have changed format and are now "allowed" to ask those personal questions and express opinions
What would you like to see changed? ...
This seems like a good idea...hope it works!
Thank you!
What would you like to see changed? ...
I do think they did a fine job, but like others, I was very careful and hesitant about posting anything.
What would you like to see changed? ...
...being a plebe parent...????
What would you like to see changed? ...
I like the way it's going now but would wish to see more of the questions asked without being afraid to be reprimanded.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I think open discussion is healthy, but only in positive manner. It is not necessary to be destructive of opposite opinion. Also, military life in the USA is in dire need of a more positive image in order to attract the best. The image of the military is too negative due to current court
cases that have been blasted by the media. A parent's forum for discussion adds to a more positive image. The military does not have to be such a closed society. It scares people.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Nearly perfect as far as I can see, but I have been hesitant to post any questions due to fear of
asking the wrong thing and being chastised for that
But I have the greatest appreciation for those who
have worked so hard to make this a great org. THanks
What would you like to see changed? ...
Less whining to the whole group, when someone has a complaint or an issue address it immediately with the individual, the address is always there. Say thank you to the people that provide this service more often, it must be alot of work and require much time. Thank you, I truly appreciate all of you.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I'm very happy with the WPP.Net
It seems to have the flexability to adjust to various needs as they arise. The new Parents Forum seems a good idea for those who need to more freely express their thoughts and emotions about WP Parenting.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I like it the way it is....but I wholeheartedly support the idea of a more open forum. I think that writers need to be encouraged to clearly indicate the content of their message in the subject so that others who are not interested can use the delete key freely.
What would you like to see changed? ...
More chatting among parents with concerns, etc.
What would you like to see changed? ...
There is little that I would like to see changed. I have never been a whiner, though, and to read some of the messages that have a whiney quality creates the sensation of fingernails down a chalkboard!!! The rapid severing of the umbilical on R-day is difficult for all of us to take, however, the Academy has the awesome responsibility of creating soldier/scholars from these young men and women. These will be individuals that will be protecting our country. The experience is not the cakewalk that civilian colleges and universities provide. If parents can stop enabling their children and allow the system to work, the quicker all will see positive results. It's the Army...not a Sunday tea.
What would you like to see changed? ...
No question should be viewed as too trivial. I do not like being directed immediately to a FAQ and not having my question posted. There is definately a atmosphere of intimidaton which needs to be resolved. I would also appreciate the posting of sports wins/loses without having to go to the sports page.
What would you like to see changed? ...
More liberal rules for rides, fewer/sharper rules. Delete the word "techolitter" from all moderators' vocabulary. This word is very insulting to WP parents and only serves to inflame people. Moderators tend to be too computer/technically oriented in their vocabulary for many parents. Just say it to ordinary, everyday language and don't assume everyone know the techie language.
Reduce the current 'fear' element out there to put a message on WPP. Do a survey once a quarter. Use a better survey device than this to measure user satisfaction...i.e. use a rating system to better judge user satisfaction (simple scale of 1 to 10 to judge user satisfaction and other various aspects WPP. Form a board of advis-
ory for accountability issues and rules/guidelines
governing, etc.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I think the ride and ticket posting to a separate net is good because the tremendous amount of postings has the potential to get out of hand and become annoying. It is also annoying when someone posts something to all nets and you get the same message 3 to 4 times.

What would you like to see changed? ...
The factual information received was a great convenience, although much of the information could have been obtained from "official" sources at West Point. The Parent-Forum should provide a place to address parental concerns which would call for experience and advice (as well as support and encouragement) from other parents. We, as parents (Plebe parents), think this is most important. Sometimes our concerns, uttered when we are most anxious and vulnerable, may sound like criticism. No one should be intimated (to not ask a question) or humiliated for asking one. We felt deep concern and commiseration for a parent who was obviously extremely upset, confused and frightened about some things that were happening to his Plebe at CBT last summer. Cutting through the anguish in the message, it was clear that the parent needed support. The moderator of the plebe-net felt the message was critical of West Point and the parent was summarily chastised; we never saw any answers to the questions. I wonder if that cadet is still at West Point.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I would hope to see that trivial matters, such as templates, were kept out of discussion. Our young women and men can handle most things on their own and should be given that opportunity.
What would you like to see changed? ...
everything is fine
What would you like to see changed? ...
less controversary
What would you like to see changed? ...
A place where "no question is a dumb one".
Aplace where we can be a "mother bear" if we want to without someone telling us to not "baby our cadets"
A place where you can ask, share feelings without fear of humiliation
What would you like to see changed? ...
Nothing. Things are running smoothly from my perspective, and I am cautious about wanting to see change.
What would you like to see changed? ...
We had no objections to the WPP-net. We understand that some people get the emails at work and can't let volume interfere with the work place.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I would like to see members freely express their worries, as well as their joys, for all of us to learn from as well as respond to.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Not sure of question.
What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...
Have no opinion at this time.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I think you're meeting our needs with this new forum.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I think that someone from West Point should be assigned to deal with certain questions and concerns from parents. I realize that we do have some people who are pretty much in tune with what goes on but there is nothing like getting information straight from the horse's mouth.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Quick easy access to the most current USMA calendar for current year and upcoming years as known.

What would you like to see changed? ...
Wish we knew more about everyday things going on at WP. Like plebe year boxing, grappling, close quarter combat trainging, gymnastics testing, etc. etc.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I have been very satisfied with all the wonderful information that I have received while on the parent's net. I never write, but I love to read it all. I do think this new relaxed forum will generate more exchange of information which can only be helpful. Thanks.
What would you like to see changed? ...
It is very business like and would like to see it a little friendlier. It can get very rude at times to certain people.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Dolf's list - I was on the WPP-NET, but was unsubscribed without notice. Not for lack of dues, just unsubscribed. I would like to see him pass the hat to someone who cares.
What would you like to see changed? ...
i like the open comments but i want accurate, reliable info on events/times/dates at usma...there can be rumors which are not helpful
What would you like to see changed? ...
I'd like Dolf to get more credit for years of selfless service to USMA and its cadets' parents
What would you like to see changed? ...
Since this forum is a new endeavor, we have to wait and see how it develops. The concept seems to be so much more friendly and welcoming. That, I believe, is what parents, particularly plebe parents, really need. We have to remember that not every family has access to a Parents Club and this may fill that gap for them. Ultimately, knowing and understanding more about the academy will make parents more supportive of the institution.
What would you like to see changed? ...
CONCENTRATE ON OUR CADETS AND AT THE SAME TIME COMFORT AND HELP THE PARENTS IN ANY WAY WE CAN.
I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS NEW TO COMPUTERS, I WAS HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING MY WAY AROUND. I ASKED FOR HELP BUT NO ONE WOULD TRY TO GET DOWN TO THE BASIC LEVEL. IT WAS VERY FRUSTRATING SO DURING MY SONS PLEBE YEAR, I MISSED OUT BECAUSE I WAS TOO EMBARASSED TO CONTINUE TO ASK QUESTIONS.
DON'T FORGET THE BASICS!
What would you like to see changed? ...
Some simplification of services and internet sites? But with the parent-forum type of rules
What would you like to see changed? ...
Nothing- we were happy with the old way but welcome anyway. Always room for more great communication.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I'm concerned that I will lose the efficient access to information ONLY and be forced to deal with an unedited, repetitive list that takes more time to wade through than I find it worth.
I have paid for access to information, according to the rules that were laid out. I liked that system. No one has asked me personally if I want that system changed... and now I have this second list hitting me with too much intro-level mail.
I'm a dues paying member, and I'm now supporting a list for non-dues paying members. I don't think that is fair. EVEN lesser dues ought to be charged. This service IS NOT FREE. I think an introductory MONTH can be provided but after that EVERYONE who uses the list MUST PAY to support it. We know from messages on WPP-NET that many have still not paid for that service and monies ARE owed. ALL should bear some cost.
I belong to a number of organizations that provide for extreme hardship cases, but those in NEED must request that fees be waived and must explain their circumstances.
I think the American Way has often people don't value what they don't pay some sort of fee for. Maintaining and upgrading this list does cost... and it's not too much to ask all to contribute. I think that would make responsible users of all who SUBSCRIBE.
It seems to me that those who've been whining the loudest were not the paying customers. It is certainly not right that their voice has now created a Techno-litter laden environment for those of us who have quietly waited out their tantrum.
I think we are "dumbing down" the list. Because some have refused to "learn" how to use a list, we now are all given a lower level of use in parent-forum. I don't want it, thank you.
What would you like to see changed? ...
We have the Plebe-Net for plebe parents. It ought to be a lot more flexible about what you can say. You should not question or criticize the Academy, but you out to be able to post what ever you want. The moderator needs to monitor it and try and keep things from getting out of control, but it should be alot more flexible. ANYONE worried about techno-litter should NOT subscribe to the Plebe-Net.
What Net is for Yearling, Cow and Firstie Parents. Is that the WPP-Net, with all its restrictions. I think there needs to be a "Plebe-Net" for upclass parents, one with more flexibility and less rules. Then, you could also have everyone on the WPP-Net with all its rules. Those concerned about Techno Litter would only subscribe to the WPP-Net.
What would you like to see changed? ...
more openness
What would you like to see changed? ...
I want to see the wpp-net and plebe-net restored to its original operation as I became familiar with it in June 1998. I want it to be an open forum - not closed and not overseen by one or two moderators that control what is distributed. Of course, there must be rules, but Dolf now "calls down" any posting that mentions a name-brand merchandise, yet on the Academy Parents Web Site, he has what appear to be "paid" ads for Schades, The West Point Motel, one of the wp gift shops, etc. There appears to be a double standard. I realize we shouldn't be allowed to buy and sell, yet I don't understand the need to eliminate naming the brand that we have found 'works' for the cadet. He also 'calls down' anyone for simply expressing ideas, opinions, or asking certian questions for which he reminds publicly that a faq exists. Recently, due to 20-25 members expressing similar opinions of these same ideas, Dolf warned that anyone that posted a message pro or con along that subject matter would be unsubscribed to the nets. He followed through on his threat and more by unsubscribing those members as well as others that *did not break his rule* (including myself) No one should have that type of absolute power in such a group as this - he was denying first amendment rights. There was never any language, threats, etc., that would violate the rules of the internet, therfore an explanation of the relationship of academyparents to wpp-org along with the relationship of parent-forum and its differences with wpp-net and plebe-net should be posted regularly so that new members as well as established ones are aware of them - I know I am not sure;
What would you like to see changed? ...
Less sniveling by some of these parents who are non-military and have no idea of the system.
What would you like to see changed? ...
The ability to ask questions about specific services that other parents have found to be of benefit to our cadets, such as good car insurance rates, where to get certain items that would be of benefit for our cadets. Where you can get good airfares ect. This I do not feel is a way to solicit for business as you have heard before but if it might benefit one of our fellow parents then why not? Many of us do not have the knowledge or the avenues to get this information any other way. I also do not like the idea that i am told that I have to donate to this service for a fee or that I am going to be cut off from the list. That was way out of line and I feel that we need to work in other directions to raise the funds.
What would you like to see changed? ...
If the forum is what I think it will be, then, nothing.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I think the new changes are great. I am very grateful that there are people like Dolf and Dian who are willing to put so much time into all of this. THANK YOU.

What would you like to see changed? ...
Lighten up. You are all doing a superb job.
I love to open my mail and have 7 or 8 messages at a time. I can tell by the subject line if I need to read it....just keep the main idea in the subject line, and no person should complain.
What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...
I would like to have received more info. about the class of 2000 -- including the ring decisions, the cow loan and informally would love to hear how some in that class are making investment choices and the success in investment of previous classes. How impt. is buying a car to cadets at this stage? What are some of the "cool" summer assignments? Would also love to hear about trips abroad scheduled by WP during academic year vacationtime.
What would you like to see changed? ...
it is getting too complicated, especially for us who are computer illiterate, simifly matters a little
What would you like to see changed? ...
I think it is ridiculous to allow one person to have so much power yet it does not serve the majority and thus we have another net. Dolf's rules such as posting of football tickets is not realistic for people that need to plan in advance to get airline reservations. Dolf dealt with problems much the same way the old Communists did - if you disagreed with him you were silenced and banned. Again, it is a shame it had to come to this but I failed to see how the current system was benefiting the members. Today at our local parents club people had comments about Dolf's dictating rule.

Be less criticle of individual comments and questions. Dolf's comments on improper use, are over done; they read as if the parent is the child. If I read another one I'll pray to the god of cyberspace that his computer crashes and burns.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Have already seen changes for the better in the parents forum. Majority of us do have common sense and won't put "Job Wanted" & "vacation share" postings on the net so reminders of rules ok, but the Fear of the Moderator is not ok.
I do appreciate ALL of the work folks have given to the parents nets, hate to see anyone hammered for their efforts even if I do disagree now & then! Hopefully the enjoyment of the job will be renewed...because it has made the West Point experience a better one for us parents.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Now with this new parent forum I do not have any new suggestions at this time.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I would love to be able to ask a question without fear of being thought "stupid" or techno-litter. I love reading everyones comments-questions-thoughts. If necessary I will then respond personally to the sender with my answer or response.
What would you like to see changed? ...
As far as I can see the current Parent Forum is a great idea.
The current Academy Parents Web Site probably deserves a relook in terms of its design. I am not sure how useful the "Need Ride" part of the Web Site is. There are just some things handled easier by a list-server.
Thank you for setting this Forum up for all us parents.

I NEEDED this list as a plebe parent and still do somewhat as we progress. I am always happy to help a fellow parent solve whatever problem they may be facing with what I have learned as I have stumbled through this experience! Don't cut off the communication, it is soooo important to all of us. The delete button is user friendly if needed, just use it.
What would you like to see changed? ...
We never felt like there was a problem. We are parents of a '96 grad and didn't have web access while going through WP. We felt some of the questions were somewhat unnecessary and lacked sensitivity for their cadet. It is up to the cadet to arrange rides and find out what is rumor and what is "truth". Maybe we're just too "old corps". We feel that parents should rely more on their cadet for information - and allow their cadet to be adults, the cadets are in the Army now. Join a good Parents Club.

i want to say that it saddened us to see other parents so intolerable of what they considered to be"dumb questions."guess there is nothing you can do to change "peoples' attitudes."
What would you like to see changed? ...
Nothing at the moment. Good as is!
What would you like to see changed? ...
Simpler computer language.
What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...
Less tension and more open communication
What would you like to see changed? ...
I appreciate everyone's work, but like Dolf, I don't see the need for negative and verbose "chatting" on the Internet. These young people are in college and should be growing up and growing independent. I don't think parents should be so involved in every little aspect of their lives. Let them learn to handle their own problems. Thank you.
What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...
Basicly I think the system has been wonderful and a tremendous service to us all.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I don't like being lectured to, I am an adult!

No matter what happens with the loosely-organized parent-forum, I hope Dolf will continue to provide the critical information parents need to support their cadets.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I felt most of the questions asked on the parent-net were helpful, and if they didn't pertain to us, we just delete. I would like to think that most questions shouldn't be repremanded. But I still am thankful to have these resources.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Again, with the parent-forum added I can't think of a better rounded academy parents network!!!!
What would you like to see changed? ...
At the moment nothing
What would you like to see changed? ...
Dolf has done a huge job these years of building and trying to supervise the original net. He is certainly due a huge THANKS! from everyone for his efforts. He has dealt with some rather pushy people and some overly touchy-feely people and had to make the rules accordingly. I do like the forum. I will be much more dedicated to lending a little advice from experience with the forum. (My son actually has very fond memories of his West Point experience.) I also respect the well managed and informational sources Dolf has been supplying and will continue to look forward to accessing them.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Presently, nothing. But in the future, changes or additions may need to be made to support the system.
What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...
the subject matter first---sometimes you have to actually access a posting before you can determine the subject
What would you like to see changed? ...
In addition to the above, I would like to know just how extensively our network is being used across the country. It would be great to set up some sort of buddy system for those parents who are close to West Point, and those who are far away, to help with a million issues.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Sometimes I would like to see answers to questions asked on the net, instead of the answers being sent directly the the person who asked.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Comment: Dues - I sent a check for $100 for something. I'm not sure if it was a contribution for Plebe-net or as dues for WPP, etc. I just hope it helped. Good luck and thanks.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I hate seeing someone repremanded -can't that be done directly to individual.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Nothing really. I think that it is and certainly will become an excellent information source for those of us who are looking for feedback or information on particular topics.
What would you like to see changed? ...
As on the plebenet/WPP net I'de very much wish the parents to be anonymous from their cadets to avoid possible embarrasment. They have enough to do/worry about w/out being involved in forums of this sort.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Can you change attitudes? I was appalled at the
criticism of volunteer work this past year....
if you don't like something you have the choice
of offering positive
suggestions (or volunteer to be in

environment is never going to satisfy everyone,
too bad that more people who appreciate and support this service didn't speak up!
What would you like to see changed? ...
I'd like to be free to ask any question re WP/cadet activities and correspond with other parents in like situations

There needs to be a "data base" of cadet expectations listed for each of the 4 years at the academy - as viewed from the parents perspective. This should include the "environment" that each cadet year's experiences entail, as well as the major decisions and due dates required from each cadet. This "data base" of information should reduce some of the anxiety and frustration that parents experience and keep them more informed regarding their cadet's military environment.

More information from the WP administration. It would be good to receive some news from the Superintendent, Com., Admissions, etc. on a monthly basis. I check the USMA webpage, but never see enough.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Not a thing. I think Dolf needs to be given an award for all of his efforts, time, input, and patience. (By the way, this is NOT a paid-political-announcement..... I've never met the man, but I respect what he has accomplished for the parents of West Point.)
What would you like to see changed? ...
I am happy with the current set up. We owe a great debt to Dolf and Dittus for getting us to this point and to Dolf for the thousands upon thousands of hours he has spent keeping this net operational. He is the reason this net succeeded where other academy nets failed! THANK YOU DOLF, YOU ARE APPRECIATED AND NEEDED!!!
What would you like to see changed? ...
i'd appreciate a simple list (not a policy statement with many paragraphs) outlining what is/is not acceptable on each site so i can subscribe to the one(s) that best fit my needs as a cadet parent.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I feel that both groups have their place and fill the different needs of many people. Dolf has done a great job with his group and so have Dian and Joannie. The time commitment is awesome and I commend and thank both groups for their dedication and commitment to their net. I would like to see the return of the old commaraderie that existed before this whole thing blew up. Many things have been said and done in the heat of anger and I would like to see all of that put behind us and both groups to continue with their different nets. Let the individual pick the one that best serves their needs.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I feel that the new parent forum list could be getting so undisciplined that when a crisis comes up (like the cadets falling out of the stands at army-navy, or next years beast) that the random, unsubstantiated opinions aired could cause intevention by academy brass.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Like I already stated, I am forever grateful for the fantastic work Dolf and all the rest have done to provide us with such a fantastic service. The small fee is fine with me, I just want to see it all continue as is.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I liked the system the way it was. I appreciate others' opinions, but I can also recognize the need to agree to disagree at times. I am a relative newcomer to these lists and may not have all the information on how these lists are planned and maintained. Is there an oversight board/panel that can monitor the lists? If individuals want to organize another list, is it easy for them to do so without bashing the current list(s)? Are the how-to's readily available?
What would you like to see changed? ...
no bashing at all. how anyone could lack the understanding of all the thankless work that dolfnjudy have put into the wpp-net is beyond me. there is no room for criticism at all. appreciation and gratitude should exude from every member of the list. there is no place for whiners - as parents or cadets. thank you dolfnjudy!
What would you like to see changed? ...
A way to ask questions about admin. policies, admin. procedures, and the ways of West Point.
i.e. how are instructors evaluated to ensure they do a good and fair job?
What would you like to see changed? ...
Everything seems fine the way it is going right now. People can delete info that doesn't interest them or read to their hearts content. Thank you all for all the work and love you put into trying to keep us all happy. I know its a thankless job - volunteer jobs can be like that. We do appreciate all you do.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I would like to see Dolf continue to lead and monitor the lists into the new millenium. I would like to see the New list flourish because there seemed to be a need and Dolf was flexible enough to allow a new list and someone was found to monitor it. Thanks one and all.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Everyone involved with the operations of the lists are doing a great job.
Please keep this in mind. We as parents have been very involved with our cadets education and life prior to entering USMA. Often times if were not for this involvement and guidance our cadets probably would have not qualified for admission. This is a 4 year transition for us parents as well. Please keep this in mind and review the various list rules and revise them accordingly.
Parents are naturally going to want what is best for their cadet and have good knowledge that is occurring. Sometimes the only way to know that is through the interaction with other parents especially parents with experience( those who have older cadets).
By knowing this information, when our cadet gets frustrated we can encourage and reinforce the philosophies of the academy.
Everyone has a right to express their own opinions in the proper format. In closing when list rules are violated, correct in private email to the offender, not to the entire membership.
Thank you for the opportunity for feedback and input.
What would you like to see changed? ...
The plebe net should stay exactly as it is. Dolf has done a great job.
The parent-forum needs a clearly defined purpose, so I can decide whether I want to stay connected with it. There are way too many postings with limited application.
What would you like to see changed? ...
It's fine the way it is.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Glad to see the parent-forum listserver established!
What would you like to see changed? ...
I have resigned from the parent forum but will stay w/Dolf. The parent forum may be good for those who have nothing better to do with their time or are trying to live their lives through their cadets.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Maybe, the net for factual info could be the plebe-net, wppn-net , and then the forum could stay just the way it is....Our parents NEED to know that they can ask or express their concerns as long as they follow basic rules...Wasn't that the main reason for these nets in the first place?"Babble" and "Techno-litter" for one can be a serious cry for help for another....I do appreciate all the hard work all the members of this group have done and continue to do.. I really think there is room for all...We need to make the concerns of the cadet families this servers primary concern and leave our own feelings out of it...
What would you like to see changed? ...
Less confusion about money
What would you like to see changed? ...
lighten-up, parents. Put some ha! ha!s in your emails and quit using the word "implement" when "do" works just fine. We're all smart. Break more things out into your cadet as a college student, and your cadet as a future soldier.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Nothing. We have one server to provide information in a timely fashion and the other to express ourselves on. I dont think the two are compatible on one server. There are too many people with thin skins who take offense at little things. It was my understanding that someone complained about the narrative provided by the Joyce family. Frankly, I enjoyed their writing. Information like that helps plebe parents get through the summer. We need more narratives like theirs.
WE dont have any problem getting details about sports activities, why not some cadet daily activities.
As far I am concerned, both lists need to be maintained. Dolf is doing a great job and should be commended.
The two ladies on the new server have a monumental job on their hands as Dolf already knows.
Good luck to both.
What would you like to see changed? ...
More coming through on the WPP-Net like the "Good old days with info on Cows rings, etc.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I think the new parent-forum will answer my needs. I really do appreciate Dolf's hard work and efforts to control content on the wpp-net, but I think he went a little to far; obviously alienating many parents.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Less personal information about families and cadets. Just enough to get the message across.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Nothing for wpp-net.
Those who write to parent-forum should think a little more carefully before they hit the "send" button.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Nothing, especially The commitment of Dolf and family. I appreciate his time and effort.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I understand not wanting to endorse/ sponsor any one vendor, But sometimes I don't have a "clue" as to where to go to get something. Giving suggested sources is very helpfull. (I'd assume that a disclaimer could be sent out)
I wish there was a better way to express disagreement with out hurting the very ones who made this forum possible. I think that Dolf is doing those things that he thinks are in the best interest of the program. Thank you, Al Deware

What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...
Well, if possible, perhaps the names (e-mail titles?) of the different lists could be simplified some. I am confused by which list belongs to who.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Not much.
What would you like to see changed? ...
It seems to me that the level of complaints went up geometrically with the implementation of the $50 charge. I guess lots of people decided they were now voting stockholders. While I understand the need for funds, maybe we need to go back to the days of voluntary donation appeals. Maybe that would reduce the level of complaining.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Give up the rules and strict enforcement.
What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...
We miss the feeling of unity amongst the parents, all the bickering nonsense needs to stop, we need all the resources we can find to help us through these four difficult years, that means we need all the lists that are available, and we can pick and choose what to read.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Very little ---- I think the system is evolving to meet the demands of the members and the technology. The only other suggestion would be a one time only hard copy handbook for users. Something tangible and able to be reference the "old fashioned" way might encourage better usuage by novice members.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I think that the parent-forum is a big change. I'd leave the rest alone and eventually things will sort out.
For the Plebe-Net, it might be helpful to solicit responses to general topics within anticipated subjects. Example: In December prepare Plebe parents for asking their Cadets about taxes by also reminding them how to get to the list of FAQ's. I'm sure that these FAQ's have a life of their own. Anyway, I think that you do a great job Dolf. Hang in there!
What would you like to see changed? ...
Not much! By choosing to be on different lists I can pretty well determine the volume of messages I have to "clean" off my email inbox. On the one hand the Parent Forum "free flow" is good but I don't have time to one by one filter out the wheat from the chaf. That's one area (among others) where I think Dolf is right on target as reflected in the rules. Hopefully those who want the chat room type service can have their needs fulfilled by Parent Forum while others who don't have that need can still have their needs fulfilled by Dolf's creations. Time and money will ultimately determine how the two camps break out (or overlap)
What would you like to see changed? ...
The new set-up looks good. One "channel" for hard news (kind of like CNN) and another for human interest (kind of like Oprah). Members can choose which format suits them -- or both.
What would you like to see changed? ...
some e-mail reads like a book should be short and to the point just like Dolf
What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...
put more rules in place and chop'em off at the neck if anyone breaks them
What would you like to see changed? ...
Nothing, I think we now have the best of both
worlds. Those who wish to keep it simple can unsubscribe to the forum, and those of us who
missed such things as the discussions on shoes
and silk underwear have a place to visit now
too. I can't imagine losing either one now.
What would you like to see changed? ...
None -- I do not participate in the communications. I only monitor the mailings for information so that I can be knowledgeable about the concerns and questions parents have. I also learn a lot about what is going on at the Academy.
What would you like to see changed? ...
all the bs! get to the point faster! not you, the people asking for info. this isnt a chat site!!!!
What would you like to see changed? ...
At this point, nothing. But lets make sure that the mess that recently occured does not repeat itself. Maybe we need to periodically evaluate the needs of the participants to make sure that the system doesn't need revisions, etc. Surveys are helpful for that purpose.

comment: I just unsubscribed myself from the new parent forum. I was sceptical at first and now I'm convinced. Maybe some folks like it, but to me it's degrading to WP. Many of the messages are from parents who can't cut the apron strings. They treat their cadet like someone who is at a school for the mentally and socially challenged, not like a school for some of the brightest young men and women in the United States. Parents need to get a life and let their cadet do the same. The sooner they treat their cadet like an adult, the better things will be. Maybe, just maybe, they should let their cadet make a mistake or two. It's all part of learning.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Probably nothing. You seem to add things as necessary.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I still get a little confused on exactly how to get to FAQ's and downloading them - my computer is quite old as am I - that may be the majority of my problems.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I truly appreciate all that Dolf has done for this organization since I became a part of it in '96. It has been a life saver for this family over the years and has made us feel a part of our cadets life. Thank you, Dolf and Judy
What would you like to see changed? ...
I don't feel I know enough about the procedural aspect of the servers to be able to know what changes are needed.
What would you like to see changed? ...
1. Although, I sometimes became weary of hitting the delete button, when parents were asking for ride inform and such, when I found it necessary to inquiry about ride information and put it on the new page, I did not feel that anyone was reading the messages at this site except for those needing a ride. Somehow the requests need to be made public to those who could offer a ride, but would probably never think to check the board. I'm not sure what resources the cadets have for getting ride information. I know my cadet was at least hesitant about requesting a ride, because it would mean contacting an upperclass cadet.
2. Parents not clogging the net with messages such as those recevied when the cadets got phones in there rooms. I don't care if someone's cadet called home on his/her new phone, and probably 2000 other parents didn't care either!
We seem to be far enough into the school year now, that most parents are getting "a life" outside of the WWP net. (I realize you have no control over what most of them write and broadcast.)
What would you like to see changed? ...
I'm loathe to suggest changes as I'm not all that
familiar with computers and e-mail. Thanks to all
the volunteers who keep this going. It's greatly
appreciated by parents who are a long way from
West Point and who are not familiar with USMA.
P.S. Just sent in my dues for this semester.

What would you like to see changed? ...

What would you like to see changed? ...
it would be nice to have just one again, but not so restrictive.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Not so much change as perhaps added...At times, I feel my plebe's frustration when he needs to obtain certain information etc. and he does not know where to find it. Example: is there an area to receive/send faxes, is there a list of useful extentions for such kinds of services. Is there an area on post to have civilian clothes dry cleaned and altered. The list is endless....or so it appears. A directory of services etc. is sorely needed, that is unless one exists and my plebe totally missed it.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Not a blessed thing other than to have everyone stop whining. We all owe Dolf a deep debt of gratitude and he needs to be recognized for all of his efforts.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I'd like a little more news about current events at WP. The Pointer View is too expensive and its delivery is to unreliable. Is there a way we can be kept abreast of all the wonderful things our cadets are experiencing? This is the reason I put Allen Borack's postings as what I like about wpp-net. His descriptions of "what I saw today" help me, a very long-distance parent, get a glimpse of my cadet's life and surroundings. Maybe he could be encouraged to contribute more regularly.
You've done a great job, DolfnJudy! Please don't leave us now. We still need you!
What would you like to see changed? ...
I guess I can understand why some felt 'intimidated'--yet I also understand why Dolf felt there is a lot of 'techno litter'. So far I see little value in the parents-net. It's mostly fluff. If I continue to feel like that and it becomes too much of a burden to sift through it to delete it. I will unsubscribe. If Dian and Joan want to deal with it--all the power to them. So far, I just don't see much worthwhile to ME.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Probably the same as I mentioned above - example - want to know about bsaseball, football, drama, chess, etc. go the the internet and click on the icon with the address of the mail posted pertaining to that subject mater. Then you only have to read what you want to, but you can poost anything to that mail box for all to read and to get responses back. Just a thought!
What would you like to see changed? ...
Formal request for funds kept to a minimum! I realize that funds are needed, however I think that demanding payment is harsh.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I would like to see Wpp-net to just loosen-up a little
What would you like to see changed? ...
More recommendations from people who have "been there-done that"
Subjects stated more clearly so we can bypass a message if not relevant

New net can be more relaxed and open for those who like "chatty" approach. Dolf needs to keep his as is. Why change something that works well?
What would you like to see changed? ...
I'd like to see all subscribers get off Dolf's back and allow him to continue to do what I consider to be an excellent job. Please, folks, be careful what you ask for, you just might get it..
this Net without Dolf will not continue to be the efficient dispenser of information that it is with Dolf at the helm

I'd like to see an end to all the mean critical comments made about Dolf. Constructive critism is one thing, but the venom in so many of the comments shows a real lack of appreciation for the man who's been the backbone of getting information out to us as concerned parents. There aren't many of us who would be willing to perform such a task on an unpaid basis.
As far as WPP-net and Plebe-net and the FAQs, they have been great for the two years my son has been a cadet. I wouldn't change a thing.
What would you like to see changed? ...
Limited number of web sites - it is impossible to internalize all the info out there
Keep up the wonderful effort - We know what it was like when this source of info did not exist!!

What would you like to see changed? ...
For Dolf: only censure comments that demonstrate inappropriate language, attacks, and other dysfunctional behavior. One of my posts was not published (it offered a perspective different than Dolf's although it did compliment him for his work to support parent communication) so I have firsthand experience with his "hard hand." Again, thanks Dolf, for all the work, but first sergeant approaches are inappropriate. Very limited understanding for those parents who are "clueless."
What would you like to see changed? ...
I have no suggestions for changes. I use my delete key with abandon. Hang in there Dolf! We love you Man!!!
What would you like to see changed? ...
While sometimes feeling a little intimidated to say something over "plebe-net" which might invoke the wrath of Dolf..(just kidding)..Most of the material on the parents forum just takes up a lot of space.

I have no problem with what is termed "technolitter". If it is of no interest to me, I delete it. Sure I have a lot of 'clean-up', but I don't mind. One benefit to having everyone ask questions, is that I see I am not the only one with the same question. Additionally, I have been able to correspond with some parents of cadets who are in my son's company. This is very important to me -- the information I receive from them and the shared bond we have. Importantly, I have been communicating with the mother of a female cadet (we met the female cadet during PPW). The female cadet is a friend of my son, and the mother has met my son -- plus, she lives only 20 minutes from West Point! If it were not for parents writing & sharing their thoughts, I probably would not have 'met' her. What is termed 'technolitter' can actually be the catalyst for new friendships. I understand your thoughts on this and I think you have done a wonderful job (in the few months since I have been a subscriber) and all of your efforts are truly appreciated by me, and I'm sure, many others. I hope you don't leave.

Enforcement of Dolf's rules.
What would you like to see changed? ...
see above. By the way, I really appreciate what Dolf has done with the listserver. I don't understand why people intelligent enough to produce the caliber of people who are our cadets have such trouble understanding rules which were laid out clearly in advance and then get upset when their transgressions are noted. I guess the new listserver suits what they're looking for, but I'm not particularly appreciative of what is being dished out at present.

More of a team effort - I thought www.west-point.org and the AcademyParents.org were basically one and the same. Provide on-line links between the two. Don't duplicate the effort - don't divide the parents. Combine forces to the benefit of everyone. I think that Dolf has been very patient and has done a wonderful job managing the web and everyone on it! He certainly did not deserve all the criticism that he has received these past couple of weeks. Dolf has always been there with answers to our questions. I guess that some people didn’t understand that when you are one of 2000 people, there has to be a place to retrieve information without bothering everyone with questions that they have heard many times before. I think that we need both forums so that people that want to chat can do so and for those of us that want information from our man Dolf can get that too. I am sure that we will all follow with interest the new parent forum. I think that they too will find that the volume of mail will have to be controlled. It is too much e-mail and chatter for me!
What would you like to see changed? ...
Frankly, I'm becoming a bit overwhelmed trying to keep track of the various nets. On the one hand, there is the convenience of being able to focus on one area of interest or concern that comes from specialize nets. On the other hand, its easier and, perhaps, more informative to have it all on one net. I'm still not sure what I donated to but am sure it went to good use, whether for me or someone else.
I do believe some of the problems came from the ordinary evolution of cadet and cadet-parent life from one of uncertainty and anxiety, which resulted in much shared information of common West Point-related interest, to the more mundane condition of familiarity, routine contacts and growing comfort, which led to a search for topics to write about which may not have been appropriate. Regardless, the essence of the nets is communication among the members of the West Point family. It has been invaluable to our family and we hope to see it continue. Plebe-net is of particular importance and should remain as an identifiable entity but accessible to all. It provides great comfort, a wealth of knowlege and a common bond for families of new cadets.
Thank you
What would you like to see changed? ...
I agree with 99% of the rules established and so glad to have Dolf enforce these rules. The only change that I don't agree with is the new rule against solicitation of rides. I can't tell you the wonderful encounters and the extreme help this has served. I believe this is also what lead to the somewhat revolt. It was so frustrating the first year trying to figure out the transportation ordeal, especially being on the West Coast. This has miraclously disappeared during the Yearling year as have most of the other issues (ie boodles and long underwear). But this net served as our salvation during that first year. By the way, probably our most difficult year of parenting ever! I agree the cadets need to take charge, but it does happen despite us parents. I believe that the Web with the ride sharing info is great and has served us well. But this is fairly new and most parents were not either aware of it or just not in the habit. So a reminder that ride share information should be posted on the Web page rather than this is a cadet issue, because so our most of the issues. I would recommended along with solicitation of tickets. I feel such a connection with WP, all because of this net. Please continue the good work - it is so very much appreciated!!!

This isn't in the category of what I'd like changed-I just think that you might get better response on fund raising if the contribution request went in the mail, possibly with a response envelope enclosed. It's just an observation on how folks respond to fund raising requests. Or maybe you could get A.O.G to collect for you from their lists. People being so mean to each other. It never fails to amaze me how rude and selfish people can be. Dolf has provided a great service and has taken a lot of "crap" from people lately. Rather than blasting him, why not say "thanks, but we'd like to expand the rules" and then ask people to subscribe.

Absolutely nothing to Dolf's list service! I hope Dolf realizes that, over the long haul, his service will "carry the day" because of its objective, professional, and factual underpinnings. Stay with us, Dolf!
I almost hate to say this, but to the degree that the upper class cadets opine that the plebe class "doesn't have it as tough" as they did, I would extrapolate that to the respective groups of parents as well. And to them, I would say that it is time to let their sons and daughters become what the USMA has been doing so successfully for 200 years. (Did the USMA furnish a lesser product in the days of only "snail" mail?)

parent-forum, plebe-net, right now I would like to see no changes. Sure it is alot of email but we all are adults and I'm sure just like junk mail that comes in the mail box and we trash, we know where the delete key is.
wpp-net, like to see it become a membership participation not just dictated by one body.

seems to be now on track, I can go where I want

I don't think parents or even some graduates understand why there are separate nets such as Parent Forum, wpp-net, plebe-net. It boils down to having moderators who will monitor nets and organize them, just as Dolf has done with wpp-net and plebe-net. I am not certain that the new moderators of Parent-Forum understand just how much work they have taken upon themselves and will withhold judgment on their service until some time has passed. What Dolf has done is create an environment where people could get decent information concerning USMA when they needed it. I would like to see a letter sent to both nets describing any difference that exists between the services. From my perspective I believe that a large number of parents will turn to the Parent-Forum (just because it is named "Parent") and that the wpp-net and plebe-net will vanish because people will not provide the financial support Dolf needs, and should have, to continue. I am going to surmise that the vast majority of parents don't understand why we have separate nets in existance now and will settle on the one which offers the least resistance to postings, which is Parent-Forum, since it is new and exists without form or rules that are severe yet. I don't want to see Dolf give up after organizing the entire system for the past four years. I am willing to pay for services rendered and believe that Dolf deserves compensation for his efforts.

Nothing in particular. I appreciate the work that all the list moderators do, as I know it takes an appreciable amount of time on their part to make this happen. Thank you.

Leave the parent forum to those that want it. The news that Dolph puts on the net is useful and informative. I am letting my cadet break the apron strings. If the rest of the Army knew what the cadets Mommies and Daddies were talking about they would be the laughing stock of the military.

Can I remain on wpp-net and plebe-net and still be removed from parent-forum list or will removal from this list remove me altogether?
What would you like to see changed? ...
Some rules on the new board. Stop the nonsense with the "out-loud" worrying, stop with public diaries, no one cares. The constant flow of
"trivia" messages are a terrible bottlneck. I have unsubscribed the right way 3X and I'm still on it.

I hope Dolf will continue being a mentor, clarifier, information officer, educator, monitor, etc. I have enjoyed the new parent-forum. I enjoy the exchange of info on both lists.

More positive feed back to Dolf for his incredible time and efforts. Our first year as WPP has gone smoothly because we were well informed via the net. We very much appreciate not being burdened with what Dolf calls "techno-litter". We have removed our names from the parent-forum. We found it to be just too "chatty". Change? We defer to Dolf's judgment which have served us well this first year. Our profound thanks for helping us to make the connection.

I didn't like the restrictiveness put on plebe-net in the last couple of months. It was very good last summer and early fall. I think the parent-forum will take up that slack.Better subject lines would be helpful.

At a parent-forum web site I would like to see a link for FAQ. Again one of the complaints is that people ask too many questions for which there is an existing FAQ. Why is this? I believe it goes back to my earlier comment about Dolf's nets not being user friendly and Dolf appears to be the only one that knows where the FAQs are located.
The current policy concerning posting of tickets is not realistic. One week in advance does not allow families to make plane/hotel reservations unless of course you live in the surrounding WP area. The Army-Navy game is out of the question with this 1 week rule. I tried to get tickets starting in Sept and was unsuccessful. I would have loved to see someone with spare tickets in Sept so that I could have made reasonable travel arrangements.
Let's consolidate the nets under the new parent-forum with Joannie and Dian as the moderators. I think upperclass parents can assist plebe parents with concerns due to their own recent experience and I see no reason to have a duplication of effort on the nets. I feel the majority of the parents would prefer to use the delete button rather than have someone decide what may be valuable information for them. Why should we have to pay to get info on our kids? Is there someplace we can go to see an accounting of the $25/semester that Dolf has been charging?
Will we receive some sort of summary of the parents' views/results of this survey in the near future?

The change has already been made. I enjoyed being a member of the Plebe-Net last year because parents were more open with their questions. I, for one, didn't hesitate to post my questions and responses to others' questions last year, but this year was extremely different. I was ready to unsubscribe to Dolf's listserver until the controversy over "technolitter" arose. All changes were then made rapidly and certainly have been positive, in my opinion. Keep it up, please! (:>)

Less dictatorship; more understanding to parents needs.

Not that it can be mandated, but we would like to see parents respond in a more mature manner. Parents' clubs didn't get the approbation of WP until 1975 and this net is not yet 4 years old. Our parents have produced college age students enrolled in the most restrictive of schools. Yet,sometimes they want more license than parents of 'regular' college students.
Parents should appreciate the outstanding opportunities this net provides and the endless hours of volunteers who contribute to its transparent success.
Suggestion:
People barely able to send and retrieve e-mail do not understand even simple directions to download files etc. There could be either step by step directions indicating the syntax to be typed or a tutorial guide for beginners to practice on (just what you wanted MORE WORK!) Directions that seem obvious to the initiated are intimidating to a beginner.
We think the members of WP NET ought to gather together in some meaningful way to show Dolf what a fantastic job he has done from the beginning to the outstanding service he has created!

I want to make sure that Dolf knows how important his contributions are to those of us who are interested in important information. I am embarassed by the immaturity of some of the other parents.

I see the folks who spend so much time to make all this possible as being VERY responsive to the requests of the members and the new technology! Parent-forum has allowed those who wish to express more opinions, an opportunity to do so. It has been my personal experience that is you belong to something (and pay some kind of fee) you are more likely to appreciate what you have. This entire net has allowed us to make friends all over the country, to get current, accurate information about our cadet and academy programs, and to feel "attached" and a part of a very special place and its traditions. Thank you!!!

I would hope that the amount of messages that are duplicated by members of the nets will decrease. We all need to read the messages that are posted a little closer. Being able to read and follow directions is not too difficult. Even for a computer illiterate. (ex. being unsubscribed from a net) I think the two are overlapping themselves with the exception of the "no-question is a stupid question" rule. I would like to see everyone being able to work together. I feel we are all VERY fortunate to have these resources. I can't begin to count the number of pages of valuable information I have copied to be used in the next 2 1/2 years. Thanks for all you who have and will put in numerous hours to make all this come together. GO ARMY!!

The new forum have given me too many messages;however, I like the conversational type interaction that goes on the parent forum. I can just delete any message I want. I just have this 'need' to not miss anything. Dolf, I like that you're there. Your wisdom is necessary and needed. Any group of people can get out of hand cuz we're people and selfish(at heart.) I value your direction and steering of the Net--we need an unwaving, discerning anchor to keep this entire net whole and full of holes. It will sink if enough pieces are chipped away from the rock.

I think the WPP-net is very useful for non military and non WP graduate parents. It is very helpful in helping me to understand what is going on at WP and why. It lets me get timely information so I can be prepared for each year of my son's college career.
I don't think anything should be changed on Dolf's net.
What would you like to see changed? ...
I like that the discussions have been allowed to move back to a dialogue-style on the parent-forum. I hope it retains its wholesome quality. I do NOT want to see what Dolf does go away.

although I want to see members interact with each other, I feel that limiting one's message to a minimum would benefit the rest of us as we browse on all the messages that we see which can sometimes be overwhelming.

Eliminate duplication of messages. Train people to reply only to individuals and not broadcast to the net. This could be achieved by changing the net address so you cannot "reply to all," only reply to an individual or the net monitor. Then the net monitor could assess whether or not to broadcast the messages to the net.
