CLASS OF 2003 “PROTECTOR OF THE FREE”
Kevin Manley: Kevin is very busy with academics and wedding planning during his final semester. He will be taking scuba later in the semester, and will be doing Sandhurst again on April 26. He says they will fare better in that competition this year. He is planning to spend Spring Break with his fiancée in Ohio (so what else is new?) He is anxiously awaiting Branch (Infantry) post night on Feb 19. His class ranking has improved by 50 positions this semester, so he is hopeful he will get one of his higher preferences. At this point he is hoping for one in Germany. This will be after IOBC and Ranger School in Ft Benning. For the first time we have begun to worry a little, as his preferences are for those units who have the greatest likelihood of being deployed. Says that's what Infantry joined the Army for. Time is going by so fast!
Josh Southworth:
2003, branched armor, his first choice. Josh was prior army M1 crewman
before West Point. Now he's anxiously awaiting his base assignment on
Feb. 19.
CLASS OF 2004 “FOR COUNTRY AND CORPS”
Jennifer Barrow:
G-2, '04:
At the end of last semester Jen was given the Stillwell award for the
highest grade in ethics. She was also asked if she would like a
recommendation to return to West Point as a history instructor. |
Mark Swanson: Mark spent the Christmas holidays at home. He remained on the Dean's list last semester. He got an "A" for the Indoor Obstacle Course so he maintains his PT Tab. This semester he's the 3rd Platoon Sergeant in A1, but doesn't like all the paperwork! The latest on this summers training include a MIAD at the University of North Dakota for Rotary Flight Training (100 hrs classroom, 18 hrs flight and 1 hour solo!) followed by CTLT at Fort Campbell, Ky (hopefully the 101st will be back by then).
CLASS OF 2005 “KEEPING FREEDOM ALIVE”
Tye Reedy: Tye reports that first semester of “Yuk“ year was yet another successful semester. Academically he again improved his level of achievement over the previous semester. Physically he was happy to get back on the wrestling mat and relieved to see that his shoulder was “as good as new.” He was also proud to report that he max'd out obstacle course and earned the IOCT award for his achievement. Militarily he was proud that his plebe earned Cadet of the Quarter. Further, Tye is very proud with the A- he earned in his Military Intersession class and he reports that everything is under control here at the start of second semester. Tye recently experienced a few firsts in his life. He and a number of the wrestlers went down to Time Square News Year‘s Eve and managed to get right up front and center in the middle of all the action for the stroke of midnight and the falling of the ball, I believe the USMA Military I.D.s had something to do with getting right up front and center. His other “first” was walking on water. We knew that the West Point experience would have a significant impact on his life, but we didn’t know it was this profound! Just kidding, anyway, several weeks ago Tye took a weekend pass to go home with his roommate, who lives in New Jersey on a lake. The lake was frozen over and Tim took the southern boy out to “walk on water.” He said it was a very strange feeling! The “long gray period” was made quite a bit brighter during Yearling Winter Weekend when Carla, his sweetheart, made the trip from Florida to New York for the big event. Tye shared with us that they had a wonderful weekend enjoying both the festivities and the time they were able to spend together.
