back filled us in on roommate, new phone number and anticipation about meeting his Plebe on Wednesday.  He described the promotion ceremony to us and explained his absence from the dance.  Seems a buddy with a date was short on insignia for his uniform, and since Adam was dateless, he lent him his.

CLASS OF 2005

Ryan Beissenger:  CBT had its ups and downs as reported to us in regular letters and a few calls.  The downs would include a cold, jock itch, a crowded three-man room, no underwear following the lack of clean laundry for three week, and lots of push-ups.  Ups are great roommates, passing the APFT, killing the sniper during ITT, weight gain after initial losses, hitting the target with his live hand grenade (which allowed him an extra call home), chapel, and winning the Warrior Competition with his squad.  The squad win also affords each of them an extra weekend of walking privileges this Fall.  Fortunately, for him and for us, the ups have outweighed the downs by a wide margin.
Nathan Brown:  Nathan reports he's doing well.  We received a letter (his first to us) on 10 August (we have had two emails and three phone calls).  He's enjoying the field training portion of Beast much more than the on campus training.  They switched cadre when they went to the field portion.  He likes the new upperclassmen much better than the first group.  He reports that he's never eaten so much food or been so hungry all the time.  To top it off, he's gained one pound.  Nate is very happy with the new computer he's getting.  You can check out the computer your cadet is going to get on the USMA web site.  Overall a pretty positive experience.

Tiffanie Kalvoda:  We will be at West Point for the marchback, as well as the Acceptance Parade and visit with Tiffanie.  She was a bit down the first couple of weeks of Beast.  A sprained ankle and an upper respiratory infection contributed to her less than 100% enthusiastic attitude early on.  Then things picked up  significantly as CBT time went on and they got to do more "fun" things.  She

Micah Green:  Micah was thoroughly enjoying his time at Buckner until a couple of weeks into the summer when he came down with mono.  He is on profile until 31 August.  He is recovering but still tired.  His parents, brother, and ten Kentucky family members got to visit him at Ft Knox.  He got to participate in most of the training there in spite of his illness.  He loves to "blow stuff up."  He is happy to be back at West Point now and eager to start the academic year.
Tommy Loux:  Tommy enjoyed his visit home this summer for rest and relaxation.  He enjoyed Buckner…especially "Engineering," since his company was last and they got about 230 pounds of explosives.  Some of his other highlights from Buckner were: tank simulation, helicopter ride, meeting and making friends with a lot of other cadets, and India Whites at the Illumination dance.  He is glad to be in his own room, with his computer and Internet.  He was excited to get his new Plebe, but was a little apprehensive since he was assigned two!  He is looking forward to the Labor Day Weekend and spending some time with his Aunt in NJ.
Mark Swanson:  Mark found his Plebe year challenging, but went from fear of failing, to the Dean's list the second semester.  He had a great summer.  After 2 ˝ weeks at home, he went to Buckner.  He earned his Recondo patch.  His dad got to visit him at Ft Knox for three days.  They celebrated Mark's birthday together.  Howard had a nostalgic trip, as he returned to his branch "home" (Armor).  They both enjoyed the CALFEX, despite some difficulty getting tickets.  Mark's Florida girlfriend will be going to the Illumination Dance.  How lucky can a guy get?

GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!!

Aaron Poe:  Aaron reports having a great summer with memorable Buckner experiences.  The helicopter ride was described to us in great detail.  Apparently the views were spectacular!  He really enjoyed his leave time both visiting family in OK, and here at home in Tampa with beach time with friends.  Just shipped off his golf clubs at his request and hope he finds time in the busy academic year to use them.  Phone call after the run
