CADET NEWS
CLASS OF 2002

Misty Cantwell:  Misty is looking forward to a visit from her Dad, Ring Weekend and an upcoming family reunion over Labor Day.  She was PL at Buckner and was very happy that they received Best Company.  She will be on Regimental Staff this semester and can't believe it is finally Firstie year.
Rob Decker:  Rob did CTLT in Hawaii in June and completed Air Assault in August.  He has been busy getting settled in as company commander of A-1.  He is looking forward to Ring Weekend and  Firstie Year.
David Nelson:  David is looking forward to his last  year as a Firstie.  He is Cadet in charge of Officers Christian Fellowship (OCF) for the year as well as doing his cadet leadership duties.  He is leaning toward picking Armor as his branch and is still thinking about his Post of choice.  He will be coming home for Labor Day.
Nickie Robbins
Nicki assumed the duties of Supply Sergeant for her Beast duties.  She was selected as one of four cadets to go to Thailand after Beast to visit their Military Academy.  She has been home for the last week trying to get back to Eastern Standard Time with her body and mind.  As Captain of the Softball Team she will be very busy in the coming months.  Seems  like her last year will be just as busy as all the others!
Abraham Skellenger:  Abraham is definitely happy to be a Firstie this year.  We will be attending ring weekend, which we are looking forward to.  In addition to the ceremony and banquet, we are planning a quick trip into New York City with Abraham and his date.  He was at Buckner this summer but managed to join the family in Iowa for a brief visit.  We have no doubt the year will fly and graduation will be upon us.

                        CLASS OF 2003

Dane Buckley:  Dane completed his Yuk year on the Dean's List for two consecutive semesters earning him a Silver Star.  This summer, he completed his CLCT training in Ft Campbell, KY in aviation (Black Hawks).  He then went to Ft Benning GA for Airborne school.  Unfortunately, Dane tore ligaments in his foot during the first week of training, was medically discharged, and released.  We all had to wait for my son to receive orders from West Point, so my daughter and I drove to Ft Benning and stayed at the Uchee Army Campground which is located on Ft Benning property, only eight miles from the cadet barracks.  We stayed in a furnished log cabin above a great river where deer ran throughout the property day and night.  It was a wonderful vacation for us and the bonus was being able to take him home with us.
Whitney Hall:  Whitney flew to Colorado Springs on June 3rd for a three week course at the Air Force Academy.  She earned three credits in Geology 399 studying "dirt and rocks," while hiking in the Grand Canyon.  On June 24, she flew to Seattle for a two week Outward Bound trip in the Cascade Mountains for her vacation.  After a brief four day visit to Tampa, she was back to West Point for Beast Barracks part two.  She was a squad leader for ten Plebes and is striving to ensure the Plebe's success.  They will march back from Lake Frederick together on August 15th and part company after their final lunch that day.  The hot, humid weather has been another obstacle to overcome during Beast this year.
Kevin Manley:  After spending some vacation time with his girlfriend in Ohio, Kevin completed Airborne training in Ft Benning, where his parents were able to see him jump out of perfectly good aircraft and to pin his Airborne wings.  After Airborne Kevin remained at Ft Benning for DCLT training.  Now back at West Point, Kevin is excited about his Cow year.  He is a squad leader with three Plebes and three Yuks, and is his company's (E-3) honor representative.
