On September 29th, with the assistance
of the Directorate of Cadet Activities, the Ike Hall Banquet Room
will be transformed into a Texas style barbecue and tailgate. The
objective is to enable the
cadets and their guests to experience "a little bit
of Texas" at their home on the Hudson.
We will serve beef brisket
& link sausage (from Goode Company Barbecue),
tamales with rice & beans (from Balderas Tamale Factory)and over
1,200 homemade cookies. Blue Bell Ice Cream
has donated 800 servings of their homemade vanilla ice cream and Shiner
Beer has donated 20 cases of Shiner Bock -- a favorite among cadets who
drink beer. The majority of the food will be sourced in
Houston & Dallas and hand carried to USMA by members of West Point Parents Clubs
and West Point Societies who will be attending the 2007 Tailgate.
The tailgate will
begin immediately following the
Temple Vs. ARMY football game and will conclude at 10:00 PM.
Attendance
at the 2007 Texas Tamale Tailgate is expected
to exceed
600.
The Texas based West Point Parents
Clubs and West Point Societies are honored to sponsor this outstanding
event, however we do need
volunteers to help with the Tailgate.
Lots of volunteers! We encourage parents of Cadets and Old Grads
to participate in the Tailgate by volunteering.
Tailgate volunteers are needed to: 1)
transport meat & tamales to USMA; 2)
buy Tailgate supplies in NY; 3) bake cookies and transport them to USMA;
4) serve food and beverages to the Cadets and their guests at Ike Hall;
and 5)
decorate, set up and clean up at Ike Hall.
If you would
like to volunteer and participate in the 2007 Tailgate, please contact Phil Lehmberg
at
philip.lehmberg@sbcglobal.net or Jim Lemming at
lemmbo@aol.com.
In order to keep the
Tailgate free of charge to USMA Cadets, their guests, and USMA
staff; we need a substantial amount of monetary
donations. If you or your company would like to make a donation on-line through
