As a final note, a practice that Barbara implemented in every course she teaches follows: At the beginning of the school year, she sends a note home for parents' signature that states her policy on cheating. It is in line with school policy. Then, with each and every test and major assignment, she requires a signed statement from the student that he/she has neither given nor received help on the assignment except as properly documented. She feels that the practice has deterred students from cheating.
