Subj: PWS Date: 5/3/99 5:32:15 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: LAStruble@webtv.net (Lawrence Struble) To: TheColJim@aol.com Jim, Saturday was a rest day in Memphis but contact had been made with Jim Turner after arrival there. The Turners were unaware of PWS as Jim is not online but was pleased to receive the call. Janet and Jim came Saturday afternoon and the group spent the evening together. It seems that our classmates and their wives are all proving to be outstanding hosts. There was much talk of good conversation and descriptions of many and various foods. Pecan pie seemed to register an outstanding vote of approval. What else to be expected from Southern hospitality in Tennessee? Sunday was on the road again. A little change in route selection led to PWS being on SR 100 which is known as the Old Nashville Road. It took them from the flat lands to the rolling hills and thru Nachez National Park. As has been the recent experience, beautiful scenery combined with ideal biking made for a very pleasant leg. The town of Somerville provided another 5 star eating establishment. Silver Moon Cafe was very similar to Arvada's which had been visited earlier in Arkansas. Run by two elderly ladies and operating on that schedule of early opening, serving breakfast, serving lunch and closing in the early afternoon seems to be prevalent in these small towns. Recommedation again is that anyone coming anywhere near should definitely make a point of visiting and eating here. An outstanding selection of home made pies topped the list of selections but did not decrease from the quality of everything else on the menu. Further along the road, what looked like a coil of rope that had been dropped from a truck was spotted on the far side of the highway. First assessments are not always accurate as was found out upon closer view as the coil of rope had a head that was up and looking for prey. It turned out to be another one of those water moccasins and was fortunately far enough away just to be seen and not physically encountered. A point just mentioned about a find back on the California-Arizona border came into play this day. Dusty had come across a folding canvas chair which was in practically new condition. He had stopped, picked it up, attached it to the rear of his bike and carried it into the next town. At that point, he wrapped it up and went to the post office where he mailed it home to Montana. This day, Will came across a brand new case for a folding canvas chair which was exactly compatible with Dusty's find. Will gave the case to Dusty and Dusty took the case to the next town where he wrapped it up and sent it to Montana to hold his find from way back in April. As Werner Wolf would say, "Anyone looking for PWS in Bolivar, TN on Sunday evening, YOU LOSE!" The leg had been extended to Henderson and today will go to Waynesboro. Larry
