Earl (Vin) Singer called me today to advise that his dear wife, Margit, passed away early this morning, Tuesday, January 21, 2014. You will recall that you had added Margit to the Class Prayer list back in October following her extended illness which had included kidney failure, dialysis, kidney transplant years ago, followed by the onset of Alzheimer's and finally a broken hip, which took her to the hospital, where complications developed from which she never truly recovered.
She was returned home under Hospice care on October 24, when Vin called me saying she was expected to live only a couple of weeks. Under the loving care of the family at home, Margit rebounded, strengthened somewhat, began sitting up, eating, and enjoying company. Surprising everyone, including doctors and nurses, she lived for almost three months in the home environment, even in her terminal condition. But, her illness was too grave and the Lord called her home very early today, surrounded by her loving family who had cared for her so tenderly. May she now rest in the arms of the Almighty.
Margit's body will be cremated and inurned, with burial at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Vin will advise on those actions later.
Those wishing to express their condolences may reach him at his e mail: earlsinger08@comcast.net or at his home address: 1605 North Herndon Street, Arlington, VA 22201.

Earl V. Singer
On June 8, 2016 Earl (Vee) and Margit Singer were honored at a graveside service at Arlington National
Cemetery by family and friends on a bright sunny day. The honor guard salute of three crisp cracks
echoed across the open ground with the Washington Monument looming in the background. After the
playing of taps, the flag was presented to their older daughter, Kirsten.
Kirsten and Devon, Vee and Margit's daughters, and their families invited all to a reception at Kirsten's
home in Arlington. There, we celebrated the lives of Vee and Margit in a friendly atmosphere of good
cheer and good food prepared by the family. We reminisced about Vee and Margit meeting in Germany
where Margit lived. When Vee was re-assigned to the U.S. he and Margit returned together to be married
in New York in 1958.
Vee was a born track man.He held track records at Penn State where he attended prior to coming to
West Point. As far as we know, he still holds one of these records today. At West Point, Vee continued
his outstanding performances. In one of his victories at West Point, the last race, a relay, would
determine the winning team of the track meet. Vee was the anchor man. When he was handed the
baton, the opposition leader was so far ahead, he could not even see him. However, Vee quickly closed
the gap and won the race!
We hope that he is running at full speed on an endless track. Enjoy the run . . .
