Ida Mae (Watlington) Johnson
Ida Mae (Watlington) Johnson, age 85 of Woodbridge, VA died Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.
Born February 13, 1932 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late James Ramsey Watlington, Sr. and Onie Shelhorse Watlington. Ida Johnson was predeceased by a brother, James R. Watlington, Jr.; a sister, Jane Smith; and a sister-in-law, Emma Jean Johnson.
Both she and her husband were from the area and graduated from Renan High School. Ida grew up a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. After high school, Ida attended Duke University and became a Registered Nurse. Following nursing school, Ida moved to New York to be close to Stanley Johnson who was attending the Military Academy at West Point. Ida and Stanley married at the Cadet Chapel at West Point after his graduation and they enjoyed traveling the world throughout his military career. These travels took them to Europe and all over the US. Family was very important to her and so she took the role of the family genealogist following in the footsteps of Stanley's mother Louise McCormick Johnson. In this role she spent time reconnecting with her sisters, brothers, and abundant relatives who meant so much to her. Ida enjoyed keeping in touch with her family, and in her later years she kept up with all the new technology to stay connected...Instant messaging, text, and Facebook.
Ida is survived by her husband of over 62 years, Stanley Johnson; and their children, Andy, Brad and his wife Linda, Stuart and his wife Elizabeth, Louis and his wife, Rima; her grandchildren, Quinton and his wife, Leslie, Emily, Hunter and his wife, Hannah, Kyle, Emma and Christopher; her great grandson Corbin; her sisters, Marjorie Creasy and her husband Rueben and Gladys Thompson and her husband, Bob; her brother, Delano Watlington and his wife, Betty; her sister-in-law, Emilie Watlington; her brother-in-law, Billy Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Kyle Uselton and Morgan Allen. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
