Leo Anthony Hergenroeder
Leo Anthony Hergenroeder was born on 9 September 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and appointed to West Point from the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was sworn in on 3 July 1955. He was in Company L 1, a Corporal his Second Class Year and a Lieutenant his First Class Year. He graduated on 7 June 1955 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army in the Field Artillery.

It is my sad duty to inform you that Leo died this morning at the Fort Belvoir Hospital, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Pauline and their six sons. LEO ANTHONY HERGENROEDER
Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired)
Colonel Leo A. Hergenroeder, USA (Ret.) died on October 24, 2015 at the age of 84.
He was born on September 9, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and won an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He graduated in 1955, married Pauline, the love-of-his-life, was commissioned in the Field Artillery, and served for over thirty years. Following his retirement, he taught science in Fairfax County, primarily at Hayfield High School.
Leo is survived by Pauline, his wife of 60 years; his six sons, Leo, David, Daniel, Mark, Michael and Matthew; six daughters-in-law, 14 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Leo was an outstanding officer, a gifted teacher, a loving husband, and a wonderful father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all of us.
The viewing will be at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA on Friday, October 30th from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will be held at the Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, VA on Saturday, October 31 at 10:30 a.m. Donations may be made in Leo's name to The Wounded Warrior Project.

The Visitation for Leo Hergenroeder was Friday 30 October 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home in Fairfax, Virginia. Classmates attending were Matt and Bety Schepps, Lorna Malooley, John and Anita Rudzki, Jim Cutchin, Jack McAuslan (x-55) and Ed Anderson (LCA).
Leo's Memorial Mass was at the St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Springfield, Virginia at 1030 on Saturday 31 October 2015. Ed Anderson attended as LCA and will remain in touch with the family to inform the class when internment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery.
Leo and Pauline were married over 60 years and had 6 sons: Leo (USMA 78), David (79), Daniel (80), Mark, Michael and Matthew (89) who is still on active duty.Now they have 6 daughters-in-law, 14 grandchildren and ONE great granddaughter.Matthew'/s/ wife Caren is USMA 97.After retirement, Leo taught Physics at Fairfax County High Schools.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a contribution in Leo's name be made to the Superintendent's Annual Fund. (Academic Programs).
