Richard Douglas Becker

Richard Douglas Becker was born on 26 March 1932 in Ohio. He received an appointment to West Point from the 4th Congressional District of Florida and entered on 3 July 1951. He was in Company F1 and was the company Executive Office his first class year. He graduated on 7 June 1955 and was commissioned in the US Army in the Field Artillery.

Dick Becker

Upon graduation Dick was commissioned in the Field Artillery in the US Army. On July 14th 1956 he married Virginia Theresa Mezey at Fort Knox, KY. They had three children, two sons and a daughter. Douglas, the oldest is married to Virginia and they have two children. Timothy, the middle child, is married to Corina, and Susan is married to Paul Merritt and they have two children.

Dick resigned from the Army in 1958 and entered the civilian world as a computer scientist working for both Union carbide and West Virginia pulp and paper. He died of cancer at North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, Long Island, NY in August of 1965. He is buried at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in port Washington, Long Island, New York.

Virginia Theresa 'Ginny' (Mezey) Sorley

Virginia Theresa 'Ginny' (Mezey) Sorley was born 25 May 1934 in Brooklyn, NY. She married Richard Douglas Becker on 14 July 1956 in Fort Knox, KY. She married Lewis "Bob"Stone Sorley USMA '56 on 21 November 1970 in Bethesda, MD.

Children of Ginny and Dick Becker are: Douglas Richard Becker born 9 July 1959 in Manhasset, NY, Timothy Alexander Becker born 24 July 1961 in Manhasset, NY, and Susan Elizabeth Becker born 9 January 1965, Manhasset, NY.

Virginia Mezey Becker (widow) remarried Lewis Stone Sorley in 1970.

1. This message is from Lewis ("Bob") Sorley, USMA 1956, husband of Ginny Sorley (the former Ginny Becker, wife and then widow of Richard D. ("Dick") Becker, USMA 1955.

2. I am sorry to tell you that Ginny is unable to communicate. She is in a closed ward for people with advanced dementia.
