Addendum

22 January 2015

Ladies and Classmates!

We are excited to tell you about the plans for our 60th Reunion, which is now less than four months away! We have worked hard to slow the pace a bit and leave more time for visiting with friends, while holding down costs. Consequently, there will be no favors, no new shirts or hats, and no Class photo in the bleachers after the Review. There will be wheelchair vans for those who require them. If you need a ride in a wheelchair van, be sure to indicate this on the Registration Form. There is space in the van for one attendant with each wheelchair. Should you have any questions or problems now, or at the Reunion, please contact reunions@wpaog.org / 845-446-1649, or a member of the Committee (Dick Auer, Phil Enslow, Roy Lynn, Fred Pirkey, Mike Stevenson and Dave Wheeler). Contact information for our individual committee members is included below. At the Reunion, we will all have RED nametags to help you find us!

If you plan on either the Sunday (May 17th) Hudson River cruise and light lunch, or the NYC trip, you will probably want to arrive at the Hotel on Saturday (some rooms are available Saturday at our 'West Point Class of 1955' room rate of $154; make all your reservations directly with the Park Ridge Marriott at 800-228-9290 or 201-307-0800). There will be a limit of 90 for the River Cruise, first-registered-first-included. If your NYC plans include a Broadway show, please see Jack Campbell's January 4th email. (Deadline for signing up for Broadway tickets is January 31st.) Sunday evening, we'll have a 'Dutch treat' cocktail party at the main hotel bar, followed by dinner on your own. At the reunion, please check the front desk for info about local restaurants.

On Monday we'll have a buffet breakfast at the hotel and then board buses to West Point. There we will tour the USMA Prep School campus, visit Ike Hall for lunch, see a performance by the Hellcats, and hear a briefing by Academy Command. Returning to the hotel, we will have our Class business meeting, followed by a 'Dutch treat' cocktail get-together, and an informal dinner buffet. The buffet will be open seating at tables of eight. You will have a chance during cocktails to organize your own table group.

After breakfast on Tuesday, we board the buses for our second trip to West Point to participate in the Alumni Exercises and Review. After lunch in Washington Hall, we will hold our Memorial Service, with time afterwards for a visit to the Cemetery and the latest '55 gift (a section of the new columbarium). At the hotel, we gather again for 'Dutch treat' cocktails before our Reunion Banquet. Seating will be assigned by Cadet Company. We will also have DJ provided music for dancing and listening pleasure.

There are some 'No Charge' items on the Registration form. They are there so that the hotel can properly set up the venue. This is important, so please indicate how many will attend each of these events.

On Wednesday, breakfast is on your own, before goodbyes and checkout.

I've included some carefully researched information below on transportation alternatives, for those who may be flying into NYC airports.

We hope to see you at the Hotel and West Point in May. It looks like we're going to have a good time and a GREAT REUNION of the Last of the Great Classes!

Airport/Hotel Transportation Alternatives

There are several sedan and limo companies providing transportation between NYC airports and the Park Ridge Marriott all approved by the Hotel and we have spoken to each to establish approximate fares. Classmates might want to call each service to find the best rate on their arrival date.

Transportation companies:
A Car Service- - 201-913-1266 - - Bob
Summit Limousine---201-385-0074 - John
Airport Taxi and Limousine - 201-450-5265 - Walter

Prices vary but approximate fares from the different airports including flat rate, tolls, gratuity, fuel charge and admin fee if any would be one way:
From LaGuardia $140.00 for sedan, $207 for 6 person van
From Kennedy $175.00 sedan, $245 for 6 person van
From Newark $120 for sedan, $175 for 6 person van

Sedans will accommodate two to four people, but if four people have a lot of baggage, they should consider an upgrade to a van which increases the cost about 40%.

Classmates should call ahead of time to reserve a sedan or van.

Rental car rates vary by carrier and arrival time and date. All offer the best rates to USAA or AAA members.

From LaGuardia and Kennedy and Newark: three days, midsize car (Toyota Corolla) - from $250 to $280 all taxes included (Avis, Hertz and National). Note: rates changed on different days. Who can figure? If you pay now you get about a 20% discount from Hertz.
