Subject: parent-forum: Hanging my head in shame
Dear Parents,
Most of you know who I am, but just in case you don't, I'm an '02 Mom,
who, with Joannie Parr, started this Parent Forum list when my
Daughter was a Plebe. Once upon a time, there was no two-way
communication except for on Plebe-Net. We ended that by starting the
Parent-Forum, albeit against some loud objections. There was a fear
that it would get "out of hand", and the prediction was, that we would
"implode" in short order. Well, look at us now!!!
Later, I was asked to join the WP-ORG Advisors, and represent the
parent way of thinking there. I started to learn many of the Systems
Engineer jobs here at WP-ORG, and eventually was hired to do the job.
At that point, I had to leave as a PF moderator, as I was having to
learn too much to pay as close attention to the list as I should. I
have a dual role here... I'm on the Board of Advisors, and I am an
employee -- <G> I'm one of my own bosses. Never fear, I'm supervised
by others. Did you know that the Advisor list (with only 11 members)
has more mail/day than the PF?? haha... bet you can't believe it.
Well, Believe it. We really do work hard to make sure we attend the
needs of our 21,000 WP-ORG members. Yes, 21,000 !! Megan Price and I
are the only employees, and we are responsible for doing what it takes
to keep these lists and websites going.
Anyhow, the purpose of my writing you.... I've got to face these Grads
every single day on Advisors. There is nothing that these guys like
better than to volley friendly grenades back and forth. I'm looking at
the donation page with fear... The Navy parents, with 300 fewer
members than the Army side, are beating the heck out of us in the
donation department. I just know that I'm going to be the recipient of
some grenade attacks.
ARMY $10,760.00 or 12.48%
NAVY $11,660.04 or 13.52%
Guys, I'm sweating here... how in the heck am I going to withstand the
friendly fire that I'm going to get when this is over, if Navy beats
us?? 2002 parents, I'm begging... help me here folks... we're family.
If nobody else will back me, surely you will? :-P We only have
these donations to WP-ORG twice/year. Navy has never beaten Army in
one of these. Think about it...with 2000+ parents on this list...for
the cost of one lunch each, we could put this so far over the top that
Navy wouldn't be able to catch up.
If these numbers don't change, I'm going to have to buy a bullet proof
vest, or equip my computer with a cloaking device of some sort.
