Subject: WP-ORG Announcement: Fund Drive 9 - We're Not the AOG

Without fail, when we at The West Point Connection (WP-ORG) kick off one of our 
semi-annual fund drives, the inevitable statement is made, "But I've already given to 
the AOG this year."

WP-ORG and the USMA Association of Graduates (AOG) are separate entities.

WP-ORG started as a project to network USMA Graduates when, in September of 
1994, Expeditus Bolaños, USMA 1990, sent a simple 'Hello' to a list of 30 email 
addresses he had downloaded from the AOG BBS (Bulletin Board System). With the 
support of his employer at the time, 'ditus (as we know him) began instituting 
discussion lists using the Majordomo software program as a foundation.

This concept flourished with popular acceptance of the early West Point Forum 
(http://www.west-point.org/wp/wp-forum/) and a smattering of class discussion lists 
(the current complement may be found here: http://www.west-point.org/class/).

Since those early days WP-ORG has grown into an organization providing electronic 
networking services for 20,000 subscribers.

With an online-only focus, WP-ORG is able to provide a level of service and 
responsiveness found only in organizations unencumbered by the demands of a broader 
mission. 

While we at WP-ORG work closely with the USMA and AOG administrations, we 
retain responsibility for our own funding, hence our semi-annual solicitations. WP-ORG 
has recently obtained 501(c) non-profit status with all its attendant benefits.
