WP-ORG has a reach and an array of services so vast that it would require a
mini-course to cover them all: personal web pages and permanent e-addresses
for USMA grads, websites and forums for every USMA class since 1935,
websites and forums for West Point Parent Clubs and West Point Societies,
eulogy sites for deceased graduates, the JobBank...the list goes on and on.
And that's before we even get to the websites and forums for WP parents!

Now, what is WP-ORG? It must be a pretty sizeable organization to provide
so many wonderful services, right? Nope. It is basically 20,000 members
supported by about 100 volunteer moderators. WP-ORG has one, only ONE,
paid employee, Dian Welle. Most of you know that she has given us endless
hours over the past several years as a volunteer. We receive most of our
benefits from the effort of the volunteer moderators. They work many, many
hours, simply for love of the Academy. The eight servers at Austin, Texas,
which carry the WP-ORG information load and operate 24/7, are located in a
dedicated bedroom of a grad's home. That gentleman, ditus Bolanos, is
responsible for programming and repairs to equipment. He is paid the grand
salary of zero. ditus is a volunteer.
I think that we West Point parents receive the greatest benefit from
WP-ORG. Our "children" are in a uniquely wonderful place, going through a
uniquely wonderful experience. WPP-Net, Parent-Forum, and Plebe-Net give
us information and support we could not get anywhere else. Where would we
go and what would we do if these resources did not exist?
Most Plebe parents come in absolutely clueless about the entire West Point
experience. WP-ORG and USMA websites have been tremendous resources for
us. In addition, WPP-Net, Parent-Forum, and Plebe-Net have provided a
day-by-day accounting of where our New Cadets were and what they were doing
during Beast. We've been schooled in blister-prevention and foot care,
instructed in proper behavior and attire for certain occasions, informed
about motels, restaurants, bus schedules, airports...well, you get the
picture. Perhaps, more importantly, we've also been encouraged, reassured,
comforted and consoled. We have laughed together and we have cried
together; and gradually, we are becoming part of the Army family.
I think that Plebe parents, like me, receive more benefits from WP-ORG than
any other single parent group. Our moderators are fair, knowledgeable and
more than generous with their time. They go to great lengths to give us
what we ask for. If they don't know the answer, they will find someone who
does. Our moderators are terrific at helping us access the things we need
to solve our problems. Often, really serious situations are never seen by
forum members; they are handled privately, requiring personal time and
resources from the moderators.
WP-ORG is here to serve us; it exists for no other reason. Now, WP-ORG
needs our support. We can't have bake sales, craft shows, or yard sales.
YOU are our only means of raising the funds we need to operate! WP-ORG
depends upon your contributions and your generosity. Please take a moment
to remember what this service has meant to you as you contemplate your
