Subject: WP-ORG Announcement: **Fund Drive VIII** WP-ORG Benefits
Reply-To: feedback@West-Point.Org

Hello,

We are now more than three-fourths of the way to our goal in this
fundraiser. If you have donated, thank you. If you have not, I ask
that you consider going to our online donation site at:

        https://www-secure.west-point.org/online/pay/1,1261,2,00.html

Or sending a check to:
        West-Point.Org Inc.
        PO Box 2108
        Abingdon VA 24212-2108

The class of '58 has the honors for total donations for the classes.
Our WP-ORG parents have the largest total percentages. To see the
distribution, go to:

        http://lazarus.west-point.org/donate/fd8/distribution/

This is my first opportunity to address the membership as a member of
Advisors. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Dian Welle. I am
the only non-grad member of Advisors, as well as being the only female.
I am also, as of a few weeks ago, the only employee of WP-ORG. I have
a cadet in the class of 2002. I am one of the best choices among the
Advisors to discuss the benefits provided by WP-ORG as I myself have
been the recipient of some of the benefits on many occasions, and I am
proud to be a part of this volunteer run organization. As a parent, I
would never have dreamed of the benefits I have enjoyed as a direct
result of the WP-ORG connection.

Indulge me for a moment, and let me tell you what a difference my own
participation on the WP-ORG parent lists has made not only for me, but
for my cadet. I was provided information about the military training
of the cadets as well as their education without needing to interrupt
that training and education by questioning my cadet. The parent lists
allowed me to understand the importance of an emotional separation from
the family and a gravitation toward those who will be some of the most
important people in the life of my cadet, that being classmates and
fellow grads.

My participation in the parent lists allowed me contact with grads I
would not have had otherwise, which led to a close relationship between
my cadet and several grads from classes spanning over 30 years. This
relationship has bridged a gap between old and new, and all have
benefited. This unique bonding has occurred for many of the cadets as
a result of the WP-ORG connection.

I have seen first hand the WP-ORG benefits my cadet will enjoy after
graduation, and throughout life. Consider if you will, that each grad
is given a free personal home page (PHP) that, in the event of his/her
death, is converted to a eulogy page which holds the memories of
classmates and loved ones as an eternal tribute to that grad. Some of
the classes have built lovely tributes to their classmates through the
eulogy sites. If a grad needs help in building their PHP, there is a
list to post questions to:

        http://defiant.west-point.org/service/webheads/

Should a grad wish to take it one step further, there is virtual web
hosting available through WP-ORG:

        http://defiant.west-point.org/service/virtual/

Grads are also given free e-mail addresses and address aliasing, for a
stable e-mail address for life.

Every Society is given a free website and listserv. Contact and
communication with classmates is important, so each class is given a
free website and listserv. The Parent Clubs are also given free
websites.

Cross-class communication is provided on the WP-FORUM for better
understanding and discussion related to the changes that have occurred
at USMA, as well as in the Army in general. Old and young grads can
share (and hash out) the pros and cons of those changes. What may seem
to be grousing at times is really a reflection that each participant
cares deeply for their Alma Mater, so much so as to be passionate in
his/her opinion.

Should a grad leave the army, WP-ORG has a jobbank site to assist them
with securing employment:

        http://defender.west-point.org/service/jobbank/

Yes, I am a parent, however, I challenge any of the grads among us to
deny that they want only the best for their children. I know, that
after graduation, and through WP-ORG, my own will enjoy benefits far
beyond those mentioned above. What part do we parents play in all of
this? Support only. Support of the Academy, support of the Army,
support of WP-ORG.

Yes, I am proud to be a part of WP-ORG. I've made my donation. I hope
that everyone who realizes the benefits of WP-ORG will do the same.

Thank you,
Dian Welle
