Fellow graduates and parents,
Today we begin WP-ORG's eighth fundraising drive.
The WP-ORG Advisors are humbled by the great support our members have
provided in past fund drives. That support has enabled us to build a
communication system and volunteer network to tie together the West
Point community (and USNA parents community) growing from 400 to
20,000 members in just six years.
In the next few weeks we will tell you more about WP-ORG and its
services. If you are a USMA graduate, we hope you are here as part of
an active and supportive class forum. If you are parents of a cadet
or midshipman, we hope you are getting all the information you need
from our parent forums. Most of you know there is much more to
WP-ORG. We also support 29 West Point Societies, 37 West Point
Parent Clubs, and 22 forums dedicated to cadet sports and activities.
We support over 40,000 personal homepages and a total of over 250
forums called listservers.
Every day an average of 10 graduates of West Point learn about the
existence of WP-ORG and sign up for our services. We will have
20,000 members by the end of 2000 and now forecast 25,000 members by
the end of the West Point Bicentennial year, 2002. We must attempt
to continue our collective efforts to reach out to all living West
Point graduates. That is why we are asking you to assure the future
of these services.
Our budget for this campaign, also called FDVIII, is $60,000 and
covers our requirements for the next 6 months (see the budget at:
http://www.west-point.org/donate/budget8.html).
The good news is that the WP-ORG infrastructure needed to support
this community is now funded, procured, and operating. Our short
term needs do not now include any large dollar items, just operating
costs and an emergency fund to take care of equipment failure or
upgrades. If you consider the volume of communications provided for
a community the size of WP-ORG, our actual costs of operation are
small. We have one full time employee and a pay a healthy monthly
telecommunications bill.
Consider the value of one feature such as the Eulogy Sites provided
by WP-ORG for all deceased graduates. When the class members are
gone, these classes will be kept alive here on the web by WP-ORG.
Class history will not be lost or moved to a dusty room seen only by
a few, but rather held up and celebrated along side all of the USMA
classes. Continued funding will assure this. Please support the
operations of WP-ORG by making a donation now.
In the last fund drive we broke new ground, receiving generous
donations from class admin accounts and West Point Societies. In
this drive we hope to see a more even distribution from our entire
WP-ORG community, and specifically the Societies and Parent Clubs.
As you know, we provide free websites and listservers to all
Societies and Parent Clubs that request them. To maintain that
promise, we ask these groups to evaluate the value provided by these
benefits. We request that organizations send donations by check to
