LT Hetland, 26, was involved in a two-car collision, when another car crossed the double line and collided with her vehicle. She was heading to her next duty station at Fort Bliss, near El Paso, Texas. She was previously assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Inf. Div., Fort Riley, Kansas, in 2014. She deployed to South Korea in October 2016.
Her awards included include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Medal.
Her home of record was Jacksonville, Florida. She is survived by her mother.
