LT Thompson was stationed in Fort Lee, Va., had collapsed and died while playing in a game on post. He was just 23. The cause of death has not been determined. He played basketball for Fort Lee against teams from other military bases. He began to feel faint while playing Wednesday night. After a water break, he returned, only to collapse a short while later. He played 86 games over four seasons while attending West Point. He was engaged to be married. He and his fiancee planned to marry next May.
He is survived by his parents and three younger brothers.
