Capt. Scott Shimp, 28, died when his UH-60 Black Hawk crashed about 7 p.m. Tuesday near Skyline, Ala. The helicopter was flying from Fort Campbell to the Chattanooga Municipal Airport in Tennessee. Capt. Shimp was a Blackhawk pilot, and the company commander. He arrived at Fort Campbell in May 2007. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Aviator badge and the parachutist's badge.

A memorial ceremony will be held Sept. 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fort Campbell Passenger Processing Center. He is survived by his parents, a sister, and brother.
