Also included: Written by Paul to Tricia while stationed in Korea, March, 1993: "..I love my life, and just as Thomas Merton followed his vocation to a Trappist monastery, I have followed my vocation to one Patricia Haggerty, nee Clemente. Through my reflections, aided by the writing of Merton, I have reached a general conclusion: that it is absolutely necessary for you and I to live our lives in pursuit of God's infinite grace. By living under God's grace, we will always be happy because we have direction. We will know who we are and what our purpose here on earth is. God's grace will give us the strength to bear any burden and fully appreciate all that is wonderful in our lives. We must always try our best to be truthful to what we know is right and let our actions speak for themselves. We shouldn't do this so that others will recognize us as good people but so that we can be at peace with God and ourselves. We're not perfect, and He knows that, but I think we could be better by being more conscious of the fact that we will live here on earth for only a drop in time. Our one soul will live on in eternity in the Kingdom of Heaven." To Paul on Father's Day 1997 from Tricia:
Paul's family thanks his many friends who enriched his life and who comforted us this week. We are especially grateful to Rob Riley and the Army Hockey Team and
to Ed Rose and the Army Athletic Office for their unfailing assistance;
to Tim Kelly for his support to Tricia, and to Monsignor Donald Sakano,
Father Gregory Sykes, Father Michael Morris, the Army Gospel Choir, Thomas
McTigue and Meredith Baker for their involvement in today's Mass.
