After serving in the United States Army for 26 years, Colonel Michael T. Endres retired from active duty to join the George W. Bush Institute as the Director of the Military Service Initiative in May 2012. He served as the Deputy Director of Admissions at West Point for four years. Prior to that, he was an instructor and course director for West Point's Military Instruction and Behavioral Sciences & Leadership Departments. As a Field Artillery officer, Colonel Endres served in both Operation Iraqi Freedom & Operation Enduring Freedom and was stationed in Korea, Hawaii, Oklahoma, New York, Kuwait and Iraq. His awards and decorations include: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (7 OLC), Armed Forces and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medals, Military Outstanding Volunteer Award, Overseas Ribbon (3rd Award), Air Assault Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Ranger Tab.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and daughter, Taylor, of Dallas, TX; Brother Stephen Endres of Keswick, VA; Sisters Jeanne Sherrill of Barrington, NH and Maureen Kirby of Mountain Lakes, NJ and numerous nieces and nephews.
