According to this article in the Post-Gazette, Loyalhanna Creek is now classified as a river for trout stocking purposes.
This year only half as many trout will be stocked.
In the same article is says also that Clear Shade Creek is getting less because of limited public access. Limited access is true and in my opinion a good thing.
I’m not sure where state route 2045 bridge is, but I think that the stretch where we fish in Ligonier is above that (ie more than 6 1/2 miles from Kingston). I really need to get back up to Clear Shade Creek this year. The fly fishing only area is pretty far back, and I’m not sure how much they stocked that anyway.
The delayed harvest stretch goes from S.R. 711, downstream 1.7 miles to S.R. 2045 according to Pa Fishing Laws and Regulations.
The SR 1045 bridge is the one that crosses the Loyalhanna just upstream from what used to be called Dugan’s Lake, or earlier still, the ice pond.
I haven’t fished a whole lot yet, but am contemplating a trip to Shade Creek maybe this week. The green drake hatch is due, and I have heard it’s a thing to behold…
