COL Calabro earned his Airborne wings as a cadet, completed Ranger School and the Field Artillery Officers’ Basic Course. He served in Vietnam (1970-1971) and in Germany (77-79). He earned a Masters Degree at Columbia University, and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia. He was an instructor in the English Department at USMA, and also taught philosophy and literature. He achieved the rank of Professor of English, and published numerous articles. After 30 years of service in the Army, he retired in 1998, He took the position of Director of Organizational Support for the West Point Association of Graduates following his retirement. He later served as Vice President for Alumni Support, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

It is with profound sadness that I must inform the West Point community that John Calabro '68, our Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, passed away yesterday. John died suddenly and unexpectedly while he and Angela were visiting family in Florida. He will be missed greatly by his countless friends and colleagues in the global West Point community.

WPAOG will distribute information on funeral arrangements when they are confirmed.

COL Calabro is survived by his wife, Angela Calabro and his two sons, Jac and Tony.
