Moved to Falls Church, VA, 1951. Attended Timber Lane Elementary School. Started piano lessons on piano borrowed from the Lutheran Church we attended in fourth grade. Took drum lessons at school in fifth grade.

Moved to Clearwater, FL, on Dec. 30, 1961, to 1819 S. Lake Ave., a model home purchased on my birthday, Nov. 11. Attended Ponce de Leon Elementary School. I missed the beginning of sixth grade since I was bitten by a Cottonmouth Moccasin a few days earlier and was bedridden for a week or so. 7-9 grades were spent at Oak Grove Junior High. I started playing trumpet just before sixth grade, taking lessons from Charles Rice. At Oak Grove I was one of four 7th graders invited to play in the Marching Band. By 9th grade I firmly held onto first chair although passed over for the drum major position. Started playing that guitar that year and formed the group, Sounds of Society.

High School years were spent at Largo High. Played trumpet of course, but dropped out my senior year to take Music Theory instead. Started a new band with some guys from Tampa, Southern Comfort.

Southern Comfort went through a number of changes but survived from 12/68 to 9/72 playing fraternity parties then clubs every weekend. About Feb. 1972, it became a full-time job playing 6 nights a week, which eventually led to a break-up.
