Howitzer Entry Warwick Virginia - Qualified Competitor - C-1 Although he is still an apprentice in the club - Don seems to be another C-1 convert to science fiction. It beats studying - but our boy from Virginia still spends plenty of time studying. You see - he comes from a naval background. He’s sure he made the right choice - as long as he hears from Virginia. Camera Club 2-1; Debate Council 2; Golf Club 3-2; Sailing Club 3-2; spanish Colub 4-3-2-1; Sergeant 1. Register Entry B-FL 24 February 1930; A-Lge; Inf; Died Newport News VA Sept 1990. Don Isbell was a very pleasant - and very private - person. I met him through his brother Charlie who graduated from The Naval Academy. Don and his first wife Pat - and my wife Pat and I went to the beach together in North Carolina. On another occasion - we were out together in a restaurant in Yorktown - Virginia - when Don had a seizure due to his having eaten a food he was allergic to. The emergency crew took him to the hospital where he had a near-death experience. We joined him there as he recovered. Later - we went our separate ways - and we lost touch with each other. Don did make a visit to us when we lived in Washington - DC - but we never saw him again. Don was a very pleasant person with a good sense of humor. He was a good father. Anyone who knew him really well liked him. We miss him. James H. Ryan May 5 - 1999 |
