Jack had already been in Europe and assigned as Scout Platoon Leader - 371st Armored Infantry Battalion when I along with several other members of the class of l955 joined the battalion. Only the best were assigned to the platoon and only the best was assigned as platoon leader. Jack was an inspiration to us all - loved and respected by his superiors - contemporaries - and - especially - by the men that he was chosen to lead. Not many know that he has passed on but many will always remember him and the inspiration that he gave to us all.

I remember the first time that I met Jack. It was our yearling summer at Camp Buckner. We shook hands - introduced ourselves and Jack came across as warm - friendly - honest and the message was I will be your friend.
