Jerry was everyone's friend. One of the good guys - who always had something nice to say. When I spoke with him a few weeks ago he was trying to encourage me to join the celebration for our newly designated distinguished graduate - Kelly. I was outside mowing my lawn at the time - and Jerry was concerned about my overdoing it. He cautioned me to be careful - and noted his concern for Dorothy who was experiencing some heart problems. Never did he mention any personal distress. That conversation will remain with me for the rest of my life. Jim Brokenshire May 10 - 2006 Jerry described himself as "Jerry Crancer - bon vivant - raconteur - ace-athlete - and all around good egg". He meant it as a joke - but he was correct. Hank Hollensbe His last room-mate May 10 - 2006 Jerry and I spent many days and nights as OR for the Army Basketball program in the mid '60s. There were only a few who could keep Coach Knight in tow and Jerry was certainly one of those. Always one who had time for others - Jerry will be missed. Well done! Rest in peace. Rich Cardillo May 10 - 2006 Jerry and I served together in Korea with the 7th Cav from the summer of 1962 to the summer of 1963. Jerry commanded the Combat Support company and I commanded D Troop. Jerry was a superb company commander - and during that unaccompanied year we formed a lasting friendship. Bill Haas May 10 - 2006 Jerry - being in G2 - and me being in F2 lived next to each other in the "Lost 50s" for 4 long years. Jerry and I saw each other every day and I have many - many fond memories of my G2 Buddy..... Well done Jerry, RIP Willie Bill Welter May 10 - 2006 I've known Jerry since the beginning of plebe year up until a last phone conversation a few days before his untimely death. No one ever had a better friend - or a better classmate. One had only to see the love - affection and sadness expressed at his funeral by his family - his friends and neighbors from Lafayette and College Station - his classmates - and those who had served with him during his Army career to understand that this truly was one of the good guys. Well done - Jerry - be thou at peace. We'll miss you! Tom Horst May 12 - 2006 JERRY AND I WERE AMONG A SMALL GROUP OF INFANTRYMEN ATTENDING THE ARMOR ADVANCE COURSE IN THE EARYLY SIXTIES. SEVERAL OF US DATED DEPENDENT SCHOOL TEACHERS WHILE THERE AND SOME OF US MET OUR FUTURE WIVES. JERRY MET AND MARRIED DOROTHY WHO WAS A GOOD FRIEND OF MARY WARNER - MY FUTURE WIFE. BOTH WERE GREAT FRIENDS TO US AND JERRY WAS AN OUTSTANDING INFANTRY OFFICER. I CROSSED PATHS WITH HIM IN VN WHILE HE WAS COMMANDING A BATTALION IN THE DELTA. I BELIEVE HE WENT ON TO BRIGADE COMMAND AND WE WERE FORTUNATE TO VISIT WITH THEM IN NEW ORLEANS WHEN THE TWO WERE LIVING IN LAFAYETTE - LA. IN THE NINETIES. JERRY WILL BE SORELY MISSED AS HE WAS A SUPERB INDIVIDUAL AND A GREAT AMERICAN. CHUCK KOTTICH '56 July 6 - 2006 |
